Biotechnology: Students use microarray technology to process and analyze evidence collected at a crime scene to solve the case

Solar Energy & Fluid Circulation: Students design homes all over the world that utilize green resources and take into consideration the climate and weather in their part of the world

Astronomy: Students analyzing several Kepler mission findings for Earth like conditions

Restless Earth: Students create an interactive brochure highlighting five places in the world with interesting tectonic features

Earth’s Materials: Students determine the location of a below ground pool on SGMS school grounds by analyzing rock material

Earth’s History: Students design a newspaper with articles predicting what various locations on Earth will be like in the future

English In 6th Grade, students are exposed to a number

of literary and grammatical terms and concepts which make-up the English discipline.

In 7th and 8th grade, students take these concepts from the identification to the explanation, application, and analysis stages through a variety of assessments.

All Reading courses in 7th and 8th grades are Reading Intervention courses.

READ 180 provides students with intensive reading support in all the major areas of the reading process

Reading Advantage continues to provide students with instruction on the major reading strategies and various types of text.

Physical Educationand Health

Students in middle school must take :• 3 quarters of physical education• 1 quarter of health education

All students are required to take 9 weeks of Health Education.

Family Life and Human Sexuality and Disease Prevention and Control (FLHS/DPC) Units- parents must opt students into these sections.

There will be a Parent Information Meeting to review materials used during FLHS/DPC units.
