    Mid-City CAN COMMUNITY ORGANIZER

    SAY, San Diego, Inc. is the fiscal agent for the Mid-City Community Advocacy Network (Mid-City CAN)and will be the formal employer of the Community Organizer. This is a 40-hour-a-week position thatreports directly to the Mid-City CAN Lead Organizer and is accountable to the Mid-City CANCollaborative Director and Membership. The Community Organizer will work in partnership withcommunity leaders in City Heights in the design and on-going implementation of campaigns developedby the Mid-City CAN Members. The Community Organizer will support the goal of mobilizing communityresidents, coordinating leadership development activities, and assisting in identifying and advocating forchange.

    RESPONSIBILITIESIdentify City Heights residents with strong leadership qualities and assist them in advocating forinstitutional and social change.Organize, develop and sustain leadership and education program.Conduct outreach to schools, organizations, collaborative partners, Momentum Teams, andgrassroots efforts that service residents to recruit program participants.In collaboration with collaborative partners, develop and facilitate leadership development forresidents around specific skills related to community organizing, grassroots advocacy and otherrelevant topics.Assist in the development of resident goals and objectives.Provide supervision, mentorship, and guidance to the Mid-City CAN House Meeting Leaders.Clearly articulate the efforts of the Mid-City CAN and our community development strategy.Work with residents and Mid-City CAN/SAY Staff in developing and implementing fundraisingstrategies.Work collaboratively with all participating agencies and organizations of Mid-City CAN inimplementing the mission and goals.Establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers, administrators, and otheragencies and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.Accurately represent Mid-City CAN and maintain positive working relationships with the generalpublic, clients, funding sources, government bodies, etc.Provide or arrange interpretation as needed.Other tasks as assigned by the Lead Organizer and/or Collaborative Director.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in Community Organizing, Social Work, Urban Development, Policy, EthnicStudies, ore related field, and /or commensurate experience in community organizing andworking with residents in a collaborative context. Training in either conflict organizing or consensus organizingBilingual (Somali, Vietnamese, Spanish, or other language spoken in City Heights) requiredKnowledge of Leadership Development and Community Organizing Theories as well asexperienced in policy development and advocacy.Demonstrated effectiveness in working with residents
