More info…In responding to an advertisement, refer specifically to the qualifications listed and illustrate how your particular abilities and experiences relate to the position for which you are applying. In a prospecting letter express your potential to fulfill the employer's needs rather than focus on what the employer can offer you. You can do this by giving evidence that you have researched the organization thoroughly and that you possess skills used within that organization.

Emphasize your achievements and problem-solving skills. Show how your education and work skills are transferable, and thus relevant, to the position for which you are applying.

Dear Ms. Reynolds:

I am writing to express interest in the part time cashier position at Save On Foods. I would be excited to work in a positive and friendly customer service environment.

My volunteer experience has given me skills to work with people as well as handle and organize money. I am currently the accountant for the GW Graham Key Club, in which we fundraise and volunteer for community and worldwide events. I am responsible for maintaining the account as well as collecting and organizing the fees. I also participate in the many volunteer events, which range from Rotary Club events to world water organizations. I am responsible for attending weekly meetings and also do some work outside of school. I really enjoy contributing to the school and local community in this way.

My work as a soccer referee has given me more confidence, assertiveness, and has enabled me to practice quick decision making skills. I have taken a referee course, attended training, and currently referee two – three games a week. I also play on both a community and school soccer team, where I practice both teamwork and leadership skills. I am also responsible for managing my time, as I must arrive early to both the games I referee and my own. I believe all of these skills will help me in my role at Save On Foods.

I believe that with my financial management work, volunteer experience, and time management skills, I will be a good fit at Save On Foods. Thank you very much for the opportunity to apply. Please find my resume attached as a Word Document. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Arden Smith
