What is The Microsoft Certified IT Professional?

The Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) is Microsoft’s latest series of certifications designed to offer the IT community the most accurate picture of your personal IT credentials. Each MCITP certification validates your ability to perform all of the job functions required for your job role. PrepLogic Exam Key and Course Path

How is the MCITP Obtained?

In general, a technician wishing to certify in the MCITP program must first take the prerequisite MCTS exams that form the foundation for the MCITP path. Sometimes, this is as simple as taking a single MCTS exam and then the following Professional level exam. The MCITP: Enterprise Administrator, explained in the following pages, is significantly more complicated.

Popular MCITP Certifications

For reference, we’ve included a list of the more popular MCITP Certifications:

• MCITP: Enterprise Administrator• MCITP: Server Administrator• MCITP: Database Administrator 2005/2008• MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010• MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7• MCITP: Consumer Support Technician (Windows XP)• MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician (Windows XP)

Who Gets the MCITP?

The intended audience for MCITP certifications is largely dependent on that individual’s role in a company’s IT department. For instance, the MCITP: Enterprise Administrator is intended for technicians looking into managerial-type roles. An Enterprise Administrator makes decisions about technology purchases, the overall IT infrastructure of a company and how various Microsoft technologies need to be implemented. MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technicians, on the other hand, is intended for more hands-on technicians, who handle the day-to-day desktop support needs of an enterprise-level organization.

The Server 2008 Network Infrastructure exam tests on the understanding and implementation of a Windows Server 2008 network, including subnetting, IPv4 and IPv6 support, network protocols, Windows Server-specific network rules, system event logging and auditing and access control. During the exam, candidates focus more on network communication than on network objects; the 70-642 is considered the most difficult of the Server 2008 MCTS exams.

Configuring a Windows Server 2008 Application Infrastructure (70-643)The Server 2008 Application Infrastructure exam demonstrates a technician’s ability to implement and manage Terminal Services through Server 2008. This includes TS gateways, Remote Desktop, Remote Assistance, SharePoint, IIS and other application and presentation layer technologies. 70-643 is not required for the MCITP: Server Administrator path. It is required for the MCITP: Enterprise Administrator path.

This exam tests on the day-to-day use of Windows Server 2008 in a professional environment. This includes the use of common consolidation tasks, domain joining, forest restructuring and other commonly use d tasks in a medium-sized business. The exam questions are longer in format and require knowledge from both the 70-640 and 70-642 exams.

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator (70-647)The Enterprise Administrator exam marks the end of a technician’s path to MCITP: Enterprise Administrator. This is the most difficult exam in the entire Server 2008 series of exams. It deals with the larger-scope management tasks of an administrator over a large business, including Terminal Services, Network Design and Active Directory. In order to pass this exam, you must possess an intricate knowledge of Windows Server and its components. Additionally, you should have experience troubleshooting large-scale deployments across multiple WAN links.
