Micronutrients & Enzymes

One of the most important components of any fertilizer program is the

MICRONUTRIENTS!

Enzymes

Enzymes are just protein clusters until activated by a specific metal ion!

Page 7: Micronutrients & Enzymes

Less Energy is Required if Enzymes are Available.

Enzymes lower the activation energy for biochemical processes.

Plant Metabolic Cycle

Photosynthesis: CO2 plus H2O sugars amino acids protein, the building blocks of living tissue.

All require Enzymes.

Some Functions of Enzymes

Phospholipase (Mn) Controls the synthesis of

phospholipids formation. Auxin enzyme (Zn)

Growth ordering and regulator.

Refines tryptophane into raw auxin or indoleacetic acid.

Cytochrome (Fe) The electron carrier in

oxidation. Facilitates the ADP-ATP

process in the Krebs Cycle. Enzyme transport.

Glutamic dehydrogenase(Cu)

Chlorophyll formation Formation of protein & some

amino acids Starch phosphorylase(B)

Starch formation –phosphate sugar bond

Nitrate reductase(Mo) Reduces nitrate to

ammonium ion, allows amino acid production.
