Microgravity Analysis Software System (MASS)
• PIMS has the responsibility within NASA’s Biological and Physical Research Enterprise to provide processing, analysis, and archival of acceleration data for the microgravity scientific community
• PIMS supports the following reduced gravity platforms: ISS, Space Shuttle, parabolic aircraft, sounding rockets, drop towers, and ground based test facilities
• PIMS performs these functions for the SAMS, SAMS-II, SAMS-FF, OARE, and MAMS acceleration measurement systems
• PIMS supports the following scientific disciplines: biotechnology, combustion science, fluid physics, materials science, fundamental physics, vehicle dynamics

Acknowledgements to Key Software ComponentsName Task
packetGrabber Retrieves UDP telemetry in real time and from playbacks. Writes telemetry to database and time orders all received UDP telemetry
listener/talker Provides communication between database and real time displays
Real-time Displays Plots acceleration data for PI’s and PIMS data analysts
Monitor and Control Controls active real time displays and monitors all MASS software components
Interim Data Processing Preprocesses acceleration data before archival
Data Base Control Provides control of ancillary parameters written with each acceleration data file
packetWriter Archives all acceleration data and maintains real time databases
Offline Analysis Software Provides detailed analysis of acceleration data
PIMS WWW Site Provides interface to the microgravity user community

Outline• Motivation - why have a separate off-line system?
• Useful access to all acceleration data in archive
>> mountain = muchoAccelerationData;
>> motivationForOffLine = molehill
( mountain );• How much is muchoAccelerationData ?
• A couple of molehill examples – batch processing
• Sample session, step-by-step
• Sample output
