Plant Data:
MBR Hünxe Municipal Wastewater Operator: Emschergenossenschaft/Lippeverband
Qd, average = 1,130 m³/d Qh,max = 270 m³/h Average Flux = 15 LMH Peak Flux = 25 LMH Tempminimum = 8 °C
Modules: 28 x BC400F-C100-UP150 Total Membrane Surface: 11,200 m² Date of Commissioning: October 2009
Specific Plant Information: The MBR plant is dimensioned for a capacity of 8,800 PE. The dimensions of the four filtration lines enable the larger part of nitrification to take place inside them. Due to the high packing density of the BIO-CEL® modules, only about 25 % of the basin volume is utilized in comparison to systems with conventional flat plate membrane modules. The modules are installed at a depth of about 4 m. Thus, the fine bubble aeration of the BIO-CEL® modules also covers most of the oxygen demand for the biological process.
Plant Data: Qd, average = 1,000 m³/d Average Flux = 10 LMH Peak Flux = 20 LMH Tempminimum = 20°C Modules: 10 x BC400F-C100-UP150 Total Membrane Surface: 4,000 m² Start-Up: February 2012
Specific Plant Information:
MBR for Industrial WW in Rio de Janeiro Operator: Nitriflex
The MBR plant was designed in an industrial park close to Rio de Janeiro. The plant is divided in two aeration/filtration tanks, each with 5 BC400. The flow remains constant during operation due to equalization tanks which also serve for an equalization of the organic load and pH. Before entering into the filtration tanks the wastewater is pre-treated with a dissolved air floatation. The permeate is tertiary treated with UV and then discharged in a small lake.

The Challenge • provide a more compact system with smaller footprint than the
previous systems (flocculation + settler + filtration) • provide a system that can absorb possible variations in raw waster
composition while delivering constant effluent quality The Solution
• Ultrafiltration step: suspended solids are being removed. This step reduces turbidity, algae and some microorganism and displays great pretreatment to Reverse Osmosis increasing its membrane life span
Advantages • low construction costs compared to traditional system • low operating costs • high effluent quality

Number and type of modules
90 AQUADYN® UA860 (4.050m2)
Capacity 60 m3/h
The Challenge • provision of a compact and cost effective system managing rapid
variations of wastewater volumes • provision of consistent waste water quality to meet Singapore
discharge limits • minimum operator attendance The Solution • in order to manage the incoming variations of volume and to save
costs, the plant was equipped with a sensor to automatically adjust the process depending on the feed water level
Advantages • mobile and compact solution even for temporary applications • robust and durable modules • cost effective solution with minimal need for operator attendance
• available in sanitary and industrial design in different sizes
• special designs for acid (pH=0) and caustic (pH=14) and high temperature up to 80°C available
• membrane area 1.6 m² to 32 m² • high packing density • low operating costs • high performance
