Who we are?

A comprehensive statewide college access strategy, including:

•A coordinating body that serves as the state’s leader and authority on college access and success and provides support to

Michigan’s college access organizations.

•A network of community-based and campus-based

college access professionals working together to increase

college participation and completion.

Mission, vision, & Goal

Mission: MCAN will dramatically increase the college participation and completion rate in Michigan, particularly among low-income and/or first-generation students of all ages.

Vision: In order to build and sustain a vibrant economy and strong communities based on a highly-educated population, MCAN will work to ensure that everyone in Michigan has the opportunity to access and succeed in postsecondary education.

Goal: MCAN’s goal is to increase the proportion of Michigan residents with high-quality degrees and credentials from 34% to 60% by the year 2025.

Knowhow2go michigan

• Lumina-funded national college awareness public-awareness campaign

• Designed to encourage and prepare low-income students to take the necessary steps toward college.

• Multiyear, multimedia public-service advertisements (including television, radio, and outdoor) urge young people to find someone who can help them get to college and direct students and their mentors to a Web site and other resources.

• Also features a grassroots network of educational institutions, youth organizations, community groups that offer support to students.

5. National college advising corps

•Michigan just became 12th partner state in NCAC. •Places recent graduates of partner institutions (likely UM) as college advisers in underserved high schools. •Work in communities to provide the advising and encouragement that students need to navigate college admissions. Advisers works full-time to help students plan their college searches, complete admissions and financial aid applications, and enroll at schools that will serve them well. •Meant to supplement (not supplant) counselors. •Near-peer model: Advisors are near in age and, often, circumstance

E-Transcripts

• CEPI and Docufide

• Facilitates the electronic exchange of transcripts for all Michigan public and private high schools and colleges. Transcripts are sent through Docufide's Secure Transcript service in a manner compliant with FERPA.

• Michigan high school students/alumni and high schools can request and send transcripts electronically to other e-Transcript-registered institutions in Michigan and other participating Midwestern states in the MHEC at no cost to either the student or the high school.

• Michigan higher education institutions can receive the e-Transcript service at no cost.

E-Transcripts

• The e-Transcript project will provide the ELECTRONIC exchange of student transcripts from high school to high school, high school to college and college to college as well as delivery to NCAA, Military, Scholarship funds and 3rd party destinations

•Electronic Secondary School Reports will be exchanged between high schools and colleges & universities

•Student transcripts will be standardized, authenticated, kept confidential, exchanged securely, and processed in a timely manner.

•All transcript requests/deliveries will be tracked throughout the process
