Air Force Academy High SchoolInstruction and daily life at Air Force Academy High School (AFAHS) are for students serious about pursuing a postsecondary education. Cadets assume leadership roles within the Academy Corps of Cadets and recite a daily Creed that promotes future success. AFAHS uses a college prep curriculum with an emphasis on Aerospace Science and Engineering. Students are expected to participate in a wide range of scientific and service-oriented projects. AFAHS serves grades 9 through 12, enrolling 393 students in 2011-12, and will graduate its first class in 2013.

Beulah Shoesmith Elementary SchoolShoesmith Elementary, in the Hyde Park/Kenwood Community, utilizes a balanced literacy framework, Everyday Math, and F.O.S.S. Science. In addition, Spanish, general music, computer lab, and band are included in the curriculum. Community partners include the Hyde Park Arts, ARCC Dance, Hubbard Street Dance Theater, M.A.D.E., the University of Chicago, St. Paul and the Redeemer, Junior Achievement, Chicago Park District, and 1st Baptist Church. As of 2011-12, there were 343 students enrolled at Shoesmith, which serves Kindergarten through the 6th grade.

Bret Harte Elementary SchoolA Math and Science Magnet School, Harte is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment that promotes academic excellence, reflection, responsibility for self and community, and respect for diversity. A variety of extracurricular and enrichment programs are available for the students after school, and technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. Various partnerships have been established through the University of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry and the SMART Museum. Serving Pre-K through 6th grade, Harte’s enrollment in 2011-12 was 330 students.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. College Prep High SchoolKing College Prep is one of Chicago’s strong selective enrollment schools, incorporating critical thinking, intellectual inquiry, and research skills in addition to fostering social, emotional, and physical development. King envisions that all students, through participation in a rigorous academic environment, will develop intellect and citizenship. As of 2011-12, there were 882 students enrolled at King, and this year 926 students travel to the campus each day to study a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and to participate in the school’s various athletic, artistic, and academic organizations.

Jackie Robinson Elementary SchoolJackie Robinson is a neighborhood school, serving Pre-K through the 3rd grade, where the teachers are practitioners and students are scholars. The curriculum focuses on literacy, mathematics, science, social science, fine arts, health, and physical education. Robinson has strong partnerships with the Sue Duncan Organization, CityLight NICK Center, Loyola University, University of Chicago, and many more. Enrollment in 2011-12 was 140 students.

John A. Walsh Elementary SchoolWalsh Elementary is a neighborhood school offering a wonderful and caring environment, and its staff is dedicated to pursuing excellence in Reading, Math, and Science. The beautiful school and campus park is enjoyed by students, parents, and faculty. Walsh provides two Saturday reading programs and has partnered with over 40 local organizations to help meet the vision of educating the whole child. There were 459 students enrolled in 2011-12, from Pre-K to the 8th grade.

Miriam G. Canter Middle SchoolCanter Middle School’s mission is to ensure that all graduates have access to selective enrollment high schools and to thrive at the high school of their choice and beyond, providing students with a rigorous academic experience within a nurturing environment by encouraging self-respect for others within a global society. Students strive toward academic excellence in literacy and preparation for high school mathematics (algebra); in addition, leadership skills are integrated across the curriculum. As of 2011-12, there were 229 students enrolled at Canter, which serves the 7th and 8th grades.

Ogden International School of Chicago – High SchoolAs an international school, Ogden focuses on a curriculum that immerses an individual in a rich and safe environment to obtain awareness of foreign cultures through language, studies, and interactive field experiences to apply skills necessary for global citizenship and competency. Through its educational program and community partnerships, it plans to advance public education to ensure its students’ success in school and throughout our global society. Ogden’s 2011-12 enrollment was 765 9th- through 12th-grade students.

CPS PARTNERSHIP SCHOOLS

Pershing West Middle SchoolServing the 4th through 8th grades, Pershing West implements strong educational programs rooted in state goals and standards. Additionally, it offers students the opportunity to give back to their communities through projects addressing and/or supporting humanitarian issues on the local, state, national, and/or worldwide levels. Pershing West nurtures leadership skills by providing students with a challenging academic environment that is both culturally and socially responsive. The entire school community is involved in an ongoing process of scholastic improvement, through a curriculum rooted in literacy and number sense. Its 2011-12 enrollment was 240 students.

William H. Ray Elementary SchoolRay Elementary is a World Language Magnet Cluster School with a focus on Spanish language. Tutors from the University of Chicago (UC) help the diverse student body master a challenging curriculum. In addition to UC, Ray has partnerships with the Hyde Park Art Center and the Smart Museum. Over the years, Ray students, faculty, and staff have been honored with many awards and recognition for their hard work and creativity. Serving Pre-K through the 6th grade, 2011-12 enrollment was 670 students.

SCHOOLS INTERNSHIP YEAR

I confirm my understanding that I must have met all Criteria for Progression to the Internship by the end of Spring Semester 2013, as articulated on the MSU-COE website: education.msu.edu/academics/undergraduate/criteria-for-progression.asp

Students must have: Passed all three components of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification

(MTTC) Basic Skills test (reading, writing, and math) by April test date Completed the Michigan Department of Education technology requirement Successfully completed all teaching major and/or teaching minor(s)

requirements, as well as all teacher certification coursework and other courses required for teacher certification, by the end of Spring Semester 2013 (requiring no summer course enrollment except as approved)

I confirm my understanding that full participation in the Chicago-based internship program requires my attendance during the four-day "pre-internship" experience in Chicago, and the one-day campus-based orientation.

I confirm my understanding that a condition of my participation is that I will be required to attend and participate in all scheduled instruction. I will ensure that I have in my possession the laptop and technology accessories (webcam, headset, etc.) that support my full participation in the Teacher Education professional education courses, or other required program completion courses, for which I am enrolled during my internship year.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Step One: TB Test and CPS Criminal Background Check

1. TB Test: Facility of your choice You have to provide the CPS TB Test Results form to testing facility. Test must be completed within the 90-day registration window (April 1

through June 30).

2. Fingerprints: Accurate Biometrics Fingerprinting will be arranged to take place during the Chicago-Based

Pre-Internship Experience in May. Criminal Background Check reports, from both the Illinois State Police and

the FBI, are submitted directly to CPS.

The CPS TB Test Results form will be sent to you via e-mail and will also be available in 518 Erickson Hall. The form provides detailed instructions for completing the process accurately. TB Tests completed outside of the 90-day registration window will NOT be accepted by CPS.

Step Two: CPS Online Student Teacher Registration

The CPS Student Teaching Program will send a CPS Student Teacher Report to Service approval e-mail upon successful completion of the registration process. You will be notified by Ms. Lana Brown, Chicago-based site coordinator, of your school placement details.
