By bringing together experienced presenters from diverse program areas, the Academy will provide a unique experience for all scouters to acquire new skills, share their knowledge with others and have the opportunity to attend training sessions not traditionally available to their program area. This full day of learning and fellowship will expand the necessary skills, knowledge and unit service philosophy to be a more effective Unit Leader, Commissioner and Chartered Organization Representative. For scouters wishing to enhance their presentation skills, a Trainer’s EDGE course will also be presented as part of the Academy. The purpose of the Trainer’s EDGE course is to provide and help develop the platform skills of a trainer. It is meant to supplement the practice offered through Wood Badge and NYLT staff development, with a focus on the participant, while raising the level of skill a trainer brings to the staff experience. Only practice can polish these skills, but this course is intended to “train the trainer” on behaviors and resources while offering hands-on experience in methods and media. Trainer’s EDGE is required for all Wood Badge and NYLT staff. The Trainer’s EDGE program is presented as four (4), ninety (90) minute sessions. All four classes are required for certification. Participants will be Trainer’s EDGE certified (H96) for completing this course track. The Trainer’s EDGE course is limited to thirty (30) participants.

The Chartered Organization Representative (COR) is a key position in Scouting. While there is honor attached to this position, it is not an "honorary" one. The primary function of the COR is to ensure that the chartered organization's Scouting program succeeds. The COR is head of the "Scouting department" in the organization, and as such the responsibilities of the units and leadership is ultimately the COR's responsibility. The Chartered Organization Representative Training Summit will be presented as three (3), forty-five (45) minute sessions. All three sessions are required for certification. Participants are encouraged to register for additional classes similar to a Commissioner Continuing Education track to fill their day.

New Commissioners will be presented with the four objectives of Unit Service, the Commissioner’s role in supporting units, the primary tools available for Unit Commissioners and the priorities of a Commissioner. The School of Commissioner Basic Training is presented as four (4), forty-five (45) minute sessions Friday, April 12th, 2019. All four session are required for certification. The School of Commissioner Basic Training is free to participants. Participants will be certified as a Trained Unit Commissioner (D20) and a Bachelor of Commissioner Science Degree (D21) for completing both program tracks. The School of Commissioner Basic Training will be presented April 12th, 2019 and is limited to thirty (30) participants.

These courses present a variety of insightful topics for unit level scouters of any experience level. Participants are encouraged to register for additional classes similar to a Commissioner Continuing Education track to fill their day.

Learning Center

The Learning Center will be presented as informational booths in the Great Hall of Wayland Union High School where participants will be able to discover upcoming events for Wood Badge, Camping Opportunities, and other Michigan scouting opportunities. Commissioners will be able to enter Unit Visits live into Commissioner Tools with guided assistance. Displays for the following topics are planned:
