At a scheduled board meeting the following day, our board members andstaff gathered to remember Michael and to plan to ensure that his legacy of

championing the arts in Frederick continues to be carried out. Friends on theboard remembered him as a highly competent leader with an "all-hands-on-

deck" attitude who never gave up.

William Randall has been elected President of the Frederick Arts Council.Incoming officers (effective July 1st) are Robert Robey, Vice President;

Frank Goldstein, Secretary; and Bruce Zavos, Treasurer.

Frederick Arts Council to Host Novelist Jim Minick, Author of Fire Is Your Water,

at McClintock Distilling

We're excited to host novelist Jim Minick,author of the critically acclaimed novel FireIs Your Water, who recently reached outeager to do a reading in Frederick.

Minick is the author of five books, includingthe novel Fire Is Your Water and TheBlueberry Years: A Memoir of Farm andFamily, winner of the SIBA Best NonfictionBook of the Year Award. He's also written a

collection of essays, Finding a Clear Path, two books of poetry, Her SecretSong and Burning Heaven, and he edited All There Is to Keep by Rita Riddle.

His honors include the Jean Ritchie Fellowship in Appalachian Writing, andthe Fred Chappell Fellowship at University of North Carolina-Greensboro.Minick has also won awards from the Southern Independent BooksellersAssociation, Southern Environmental Law Center, The Virginia CollegeBookstore Association, Appalachian Writers Association, AppalachianHeritage, Now and Then Magazine, and Radford University.

He completed an MFA in fiction from UNC-Greensboro, where he wasFiction Editor for The Greensboro Review. Currently, he is AssistantProfessor of English at Augusta University and Core Faculty at ConverseCollege's low-residency MFA program. Read more at http://www.jim-minick.com/wpdev/

The Frederick Symphony Orchestra will play our final masterworks season concert tocelebrate romance across timeless stories from movies and Broadway.

The orchestra will be performing The Titanic Medley by James Horner, followed byselections based on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. This will include Love

Theme from Romeo and Juliet (also known as "A Time for Us") by Nino Rota and Romeoand Juliet Fantasy-Overture by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

After intermission, the orchestra will perform the theme from Forrest Gump by AlanSilvestri and Calvin Custer, Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Custer,

and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.

TAG/The Artists Gallery

In July TAG/The Artists Gallery will feature two solo exhibitions of new collage work. JulieMaynard will get nearer and nearer to her subject in a series called "Closer." Cathy Wilkin willexplore the joys of color and motion in "Roll With It." These shows run from June 30 throughJuly 30, with a reception from 5 to 9pm during First Saturday on July 1.

Wilkin and Maynard will give a TAG Talk about their work at 2pm on Sunday, July 16.Continuing through June 25: Mark Rothkopf's new show of photography titled "Glimpses ofNirvana," plus a group show by members of the gallery called "SunSational."
