What is MICE ?• MEETING – Corporate conferences.

• INCENTIVE (TRAVEL)- Trips conducted by companies as a reward or training for employees . Also called corporate incentive/training tour.
EX- Awarding ceremony or reception are conducted by the head offices director for high performing employees.
• CONVENTION- General assemblies, academic conferences hosted by international and academics conferences hosted by international and academic Organizations/associations.
EX- APEC,COP10,IBA ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
• EVENT/EXHIBITION- Cultural & Sporting events as well as trade shows and exhibitions .
Ex- Tokyo International Film Festival, IAAF WORLD championship in athletics.
Definition IAPCO (the International Association of Professional Congress
Organizers) publishes a book called "Meetings Industry Terminology" which functions as a dictionary for the meetings industry. These are the definitions as put out by IAPCO:
Meeting - general term indicating the coming together of a number of people in one place, to confer or carry out a particular activity. Frequency: can be on an ad hoc basis or according to a set pattern, as for instance annual general meetings, committee meetings, etc.
Incentive - meeting event as part of a programme which is offered to its participants to reward a previous performance.
• Conference - participatory meeting designed for discussion, fact-finding, problem solving and consultation. As compared with a congress, a conference is normally smaller in scale and more select in character - features which tend to facilitate the exchange of information. The term "conference" carries no special connotation as to frequency. Though not inherently limited in time, conferences are usually of limited duration with specific objectives.
• Exhibition - Events at which products and services are displayed. Recently, there has been an industry driven initiative to not use the
"MICE Market" label and instead say "The Meetings Industry" which encompasses all the above.

• The different events fascinates investors from other parts of the country and the world. The elements of relaxation, shopping and sightseeing are usually included in MICE trips. Hence, most MICE travellers can be converted into leisure travellers who would spend money on sightseeing and shopping.
• It is a fact that around 19% of delegates travel with at least one accompanying person and that 39% of them visit other areas either before or after a meeting or conference. Thus, MICE tourism is a powerful revenue earner and the foreign exchange generated goes straight to the core of the region’s economy, ultimately generating income for other parts of the country.
• MICE events increase awareness of the host country, create employment and income, support the development of local and national industries, and help the expansion of export markets.

(ICCA), India is 27th meetings market. The inbound MICE segment of India is growing at the rate of 15 to 29 per cent per annum.
• The conference market of India is valued at about $4.8 billion and is growing at a rapid pace. Ministry of Tourism, Government of India sponsors India Convention Promotion Bureau, which is a business organisation, working for the past 25 years to promote and establish India as the preferred MICE destination.

While foreign NTOs are making an very aggressive bid for the Indian MICE traffic, Indian state tourism boards, venues, hotel chains and MICE operators are also not too far behind in growth plans to capture the maximum share.
In my point of view the Indian MICE industry is now providing seamless opportunities for knowledge exchange , globlisation & accelerates non governmental diplomacy. In such kind of events people tends to spend 20 to 30 percent times more than they spend on average travelling. The key players for the MICE INDUSTRY IN INDIA are – food and beverage , medical , pharma , media and infrastructure.
There are several new opportunities are available to develop & promote MICE business, especially in the field
of Conferences and Convention. India has got big and mega convention & conference centres and we can now
bid for larger conferences. We have quality and world class new hotels coming up in Delhi and the prices are quite
comfortable and rooms are available. With the new government of NARENDRA MODI at the Centre, there is
an overall impression and strong believe that the economy will boom by April 2015. This positive impression will help us facing the industrial challenges and move forward for rapid and better growth in the industry in the upcoming
months.
