A Very Special Thank You To Unlock the Lachs!
These wheelchairs were generously donated to MICare by ‘Unlock the Lachs’, to replace our older ones that have been around for many years and were refurbished in 2016. Unlock the Lachs is a Towns-ville based, not-for-profit charity that was established in memory of Lachlan Downey (Lachy), who was born in 2010 with a progressive neurological disorder and sadly, passed away in 2013.

Linda’s Leisure's …. Hello everyone I trust you enjoyed a safe and relaxing Easter, with just enough chocolate to satisfy. The Townsville Grammar Year 9 students surprised us with some specially prepared, (and some impromptu), presentations of their life and interests. Thank you to Lizzi Watson and staff for liaising with me to organise the visit. We look forward to another. I have been in Melbourne most of April but hear the visit from Robert Zillman and Kerri-Ann Reeves of the Department of Health was a great success with almost 100 people attending from around the Island. A very informative and applicable presentation appreciated by many, including our Staff. The alternative Morning Melodies venue at Carlyle Gardens was apparently most comfortable and a pleasant change for those who attended. We enjoyed a scenic drive with bus driver Ken, through the bush to Hervey Range Tea Rooms to be treated to scrumptious meals in a rustic bush setting. Another great day in Australia! Thanks everyone! Activities for May: Wednesday 8th Morning Melodies – “A Night in Vegas” with the Islands own Kevin Wright at the Range Room, the Brothers Leagues Club. This fabulous show covers the crooners and swooners, amidst the Rat Pack days and the sights and sounds of Vegas. Monday 13th Bingo and Lawn Bowls at Arcadia Bowls Club. Try your bias at the kitty or join the throng of Bingo rounds with morning tea and lunch included. Tuesday 21st Movie Day at Warrina Cinema - a selection of movies for just $10 per person. Shopping and lunch afterwards Tuesday 28th Guest speaker Jonathan Hall and guide dog Max from the Guide Dogs Association to speak with us at the Centre. Woof woof

KEN’Z KORNER……. Welcome to May’s 2019 edition of Kenz Korner: Isn’t it getting lovely and cool in the evenings and mornings? Such a beautiful time of the year and Phoenix is more than pleased to say farewell to one of the hottest and wettest summers on record. The Island is looking fantastic due to the lovely rain we have been getting. This month is looking adventurous and happy with programs set up influencing the Art Class’s, Movies, and Ladies and Gents outings. For more details regarding the programs, please see the middle of this handbook, and all will be explained by date. There is lots of up and coming events designed for your benefit and wellness, so turn the TV off and grab those sandshoes and let’s go. One of these is the Client Holiday, which is shaping up to be special. The Cairns area is the focus, with day trips arranged to the Tablelands, and Green Island, and of course, shopping. We also have more Town trips planned, morning melodies, and of course our Tuesday Club. So be the adventure, look after the person next to you, and keep drinking that water!! Phoenix sends his love, as do I, and hope you have a fantastic Month of May.
Ken and Phoenix….xx….woof!!
Fun times to be had in Art Class!
