P = One method to investigate unauthorised absences from schools is through self‐completion written questionnaires.

E = Authorised absences include when students fail to attend school when they should and this can affect their overall educational achievement and result in them leaving school with poor qualifications as stated in item B.

E = There are various strengths and weaknesses of using self‐completion written questionnaires for this issue.

A SAMPLE CONCLUSION

P = In conclusion, although self‐completion written questionnaires are useful in investigating issues of unauthorised absences, there are problems.

E = For example, they generate quantitative data and don't consider 'why' students truant from school in the first place.

E/L = Therefore, a sociologist may prefer to use multiple methods such as questionnaires and unstrucutred interviews as this means that the results can be triangulated and it would provide a deeper understanding of the issue.
