President’s Message Hello, MVDC Family!! How are you? I hope and pray that this newsletter finds you all well and blessed. I am happy, ecstatic and know that it is a timed tradition and honor to serve a third term as Miami Valley Dance Council President. I would especially like to share my gratitude to the squad of MVDC Executive Officers, Trustees, Club Officers and Council Reps that make our dancing community so diverse and wonderful.

The Miami Valley Dance Council’s newsletter is published bimonthly. Data submitted for publication may be

condensed, modified, or omitted by discretion of the editor. We welcome reprinting of any of the articles

within this publication, but please give credit to us and/or the author where identified.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit all information for publication electronically to e-mail address, [email protected]. Pro-

grams that data can definitely be accepted in are MS word (other than Word 2008), JPG, MS Works. We are

willing to work with anyone, so please send what you have, and if it cannot be opened, we will contact you

provided you include contact information. Though all news is welcome, it may not be published, may be pub-

lished in part only, or may be published at a later date. News should be relevant at the time of publication.

Remember that a dance that is still in the future when you submit the news may be past by the time the

newsletter is published. Include news that is of interest to dancers outside of your club. Photos are welcome.

Include area codes for all phone numbers and zip codes for all addresses. (No more than two

contacts per club, please.)

The Honor Dance will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020, Travis Cook Caller, Elaine Wintrow

Cuer, 2:00-5:00 at Michael Solomon Pavilion. Announcement of the 2020 Honor Dancer(s) will be

made during the dance.

When your club members reach the various levels or if there is a club anniversary, submit the

information to me so that proper recognition can be given.

As a courtesy, clubs should contact the Raid Chair of the club to be raided or retrieved one week

in advance. This gives the host club time to plan their refreshments and have the banners ready.

The MVDC Friendship Badge encourages dancers to visit other square dance clubs where they are

not a member and not raiding or retrieving. Contact your Raid Chair or visit the MVDC website for

more information.

The Ohio State Corporation of Square & Round Dance held their customary

November meeting in Gahanna Ohio on November 3, 2019. We had almost full

attendance. General business was covered and here are a few items of interest you

may want to note.

1. The Buckeye Round Dance Council (BRDC) reported that their Fall Harvest

Dance was well attended and that they were in the process of scheduling

their spring and fall dances for 2020 and will announce time and date when

they are finalized.

2. The Publicity committee reported that 66th NSDC Facebook page was still

getting plenty of activity. As of August, we are on our way to 1000 likes.

The State Corp page is at 64 likes even though it is fairly new.

3. Publicity has started email blasts advertising Ohio and its Ohio State

Convention. The emails are combined lists from several conventions and

federations. They are hoping that this will boost our convention

attendance. They are seeing that there are several people on the list that

are resending the adds to their list as well and that is boosting the

numbers to around 1700 emails.

4. The State Charter renewal is in process as is required every 4 years.

5. Steve Stoehr as Past president is contacting all the state delegates to put

together a slate of officers for the next year. The nominations are due at

the February meeting.

6. Steve Stoehr is heading up the committee to explore Toledo for a possible

2024 Ohio State convention site. They have a May site visit planned to

check out the facilities and possibilities.

7. The 59th Ohio convention (Aurora) committee gave their partial final report

and said they were finalizing the last of the monies and would have a total

at the February meeting but all looked good.

8. The 60th Ohio convention (Columbus) committee gave a great progress

report and all is moving along smoothly. They just need us to register and

book the hotels.

9. The 61st Ohio convention (Dayton) committee gave their report and all is in

place and the committee meetings will start soon.

10. The 62nd Ohio Convention (Akron) committee is in progress and the

planning is well under way.

11. The 63rd Ohio Convention (Columbus) committee reported their progress

and seem to be fully engaged in the planning.
