Thanks for making a di erence. It’s an honor to celebrate the things that bring our community together.

Miami is different… and thatʼs something we embrace and

celebrate. Itʼs a community that percolates with possibility, powered by a

diverse talent pool, thriving industries and global connectivity. Where beaches

meet biotech, fishing meets finance, and cafecito meets coding. Miami-Dadeʼs business

advantages are many—but itʼs the fact that they converge in this beautiful place, rich in culture and

entrepreneurial history, that makes it meaningful.

The Honorable Carlos A. GiménezMiami-Dade County Mayor

“The success of The Beacon Councilʼs ʻAdvantage

Miamiʼ Campaign this year has connected the many

segments of our regionʼs vibrant economy, from

banking, finance and hospitality to tourism, life

sciences and healthcare. In just six years, job

growth has surged 15 percent across all industries,

creating more than 160,000 new jobs, with an

outstanding 40 percent rise in the technology sector,

24 percent in trade and logistics, and 24 percent in

aviation. This exceptional growth not only enables

our residents to pursue promising careers but also

ensures that they achieve their full potential.”

MIAMI-DADE BOARDOF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

“As a world-class thriving metropolis, Miami-Dade County is positioning itself as one of the nationʼs premier locations for business as well as a leader in resiliency that is making the necessary investments in our transportation infrastructure to foster our increasingly diverse economy.”

GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY, INTERNATIONAL APPEAL

As a world-class, global community with strong connectivity advantages and a rich, diverse culture,

Miami-Dade holds a strong appeal for international investors and businesses looking to expand. A

significant part of our business development efforts are focused on hosting international

delegations visiting Miami, as well as going abroad to educate and engage foreign

businesses with our communityʼs business advantages. In FY17/18, 36% of

our record 50 projects are international, with Spain leading again as

the country of origin with the most FDI projects.BELGIUMBRAZILCANADACHILEFRANCEGERMANYISRAELITALYSPAINUNITED KINGDOM

BEYOND AMAZON

Being selected as a Top 20 Finalist for Amazon HQ2 changed the conversation for Miami in

2018. Amazon's recognition shone a light on Miamiʼs competitive advantages, especially the

strength of our technology and innovation sectors. Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach

collaborated closely to deliver a truly integrated regional proposal. The success of these

efforts highlighted opportunities to work together more closely moving forward, something

that will have lasting impact on the region.

With support from The Knight Foundation and Enterprise Florida, The Beacon Council rolled

out a targeted campaign to increase awareness of Miamiʼs strengths as a business

destination, capitalizing on the increased interest and engagement with our community

pending Amazonʼs decision.

MIAMI COMMUNITY VENTURES (MCV)

MCV is a collective impact initiative designed to connect low income “structurally unemployed” individuals to living wage jobs. Eligible program participants include public assistance recipients, returning citizens, at-risk youth (19 – 29 YO), and disabled (with emphasis on the female head-of-household and veteran sub-groups). In development for most of FY17-18, MCVʼs 4-month pilot will run in Liberty City, Overtown and Goulds. Thank you to all of the partners and community organizations collaborating to make this program a success.

The Beacon Councilʼs Urban Initiative Task Force launched a pilot program intentionally matching Black entrepreneurs with funders who can work with successful local Black-owned businesses to scale up to the next level. Moderated by Teri Williams, President and COO of OneUnited Bank, this particular panel addressed the importance of access to flexible capital for growthand scale.

The Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the Countyʼs official economic development organization, is a public-private partnership that focuses on job creation and economic growth. Since 1985, the Council has assisted more than 1,000 businesses that have created nearly 70,000 direct jobs and added more than $4.6 billion in new capital investments. It accomplishes this by marketing Miami-Dade as a world-class business location, growing local companies and shaping the local economyʼs future.
