EditorialWelcome to my magazine, and the very fi rst issue of

Miami !. You are probably one of my fi rst readers and im

hoping you like the following content, the format of this magazine

consits of an Art Deco inspiered grid system created by me (Edisson Hidalgo), through out

this issue the typeface used will be called ‘Moms Typewritter’created by Christoph Mueller, I have

chosen this typeface as I wanted this magazine to have a retro feel. To do this the

images will be my own photography and my own editing. I will also have a page on my own review of my experience of Miami

and what I enjoyed most, hopefuly this will convince

some of my readers to visit such an amazing place and defi natly

unique experience as it’s so different from London life and a great

place to

relax after a year of a hard uni life.

First things frst, I am def inatly going back to Miami it is one of

the best places to go and relax nothing compares to it not even

paradise because Miami is ...........

PARADISE!

I spent the Christmas holiday’s there for two weeks, I stayed at my

girlfriend’s house along with her cousin, better than a

hotel? Yes, as I did not pay for accommodation and best of all home

cooked food. So this adventure all began once I came out of the

airport and the iconic “Yellow Cab” was everywhere spread out

like ants, once I got my ride by my girlfriends cousin, she took me

for a quick tour of many iconic buildings, well only the ones she

knew. I was mesmerised by so many tall buildings and the amount

of bridges to be crossed as Miami is made up of many islands with

just bridges and toll points separating them.Throughout this

adventure I visited the obvious touristic places such as ‘The Sear

Aquarium,’ Bayside’, and of course ‘South Beach.’ The most

memorable part for me was the Art Deco style architecture it was

so different from London buildings and it just blended into the

scenery beautifully with its pastel coloured walls.

RECOMMENDATIONS?

I would be stupid not to recommend South Beach and its Dining,

one reason would be for the beach of course and its therapeutic

hot sand and for the night time the streets are lit up not with

street lamps but Miami’s iconic neon lights from each

restaurant/hotels which go on through out the whole road, which

makes it hard to decide were to eat. I would also recommend an art

gallery which has dedicated its space to a Brazilian artist called

Romero Britto who’s work is very cartoony and also has souvenirs

for sale.

WHAT’S SO GOOD ABOUT THIS PLACE?

Well what will blow you away will be the amount of

scenery there is, at every corner there is a totally

different atmosphere because everything is so

compact, such as Little Haiti and Little Havana

are like next door neighbours. With Spanish being

the main language used you will defi nitely get the

Latin vibe, but don’t worry English is spoken too.

Romero Britto was born in Redife in Brazil in 1963, he was also able to teach himself at an early age which enabled him to go to travel in Paris and he was later introduced to the work of Matisse and Picasso. Combining the infl uences from Cubism with pop he created a very different type of work which had a vibrant, ionic style combined together that the New York Times describes as exudes warmth optimism love.” In 1988, Britto moved to Miami and there he emerged as an international artist. A year after that him and Andy Warhol and Keith Haring were selected for Absolut Art” campaign. From this experience it is evident that Britto’s work is known and used, as he done collaborations with many brands such as Audi, Bentley, Disney and even done a poster for the 2010 World cup as he also done collaborations with Technomarine, Evian and FIFA. Furthermore, he has also done illustrations for books and some of his work has even been displayed in galleries and museums in more than 100 countries. As his talent became famous and much more known he created public art installations, over in Berlin for the marvellous O2 dome, and here in London at Hyde Park, even in the United States-New York he was also able to show his work too! Britto stated that as an artist he takes into consideration that the role of artist to be an agent of ‘positive change’. With his great talent he was able to succeed and now he also donates his art and resources to many charities such as Bet Buddies international, St. Jude’s Childrens Research hospital. In 2011 however Britto was invited by the president of Brazil, how fl attering! - This was for him to create the logo for “Rede Cegonha.’’

One of the worlds famous beaches is South beach where it’s been known by the magnifi cent nightlife, elegant dining, the phenomenal Art Deco area, where the trend setting design infl uence was also used. There’s no doubt as to why the annual hosting of the TV show MTV awards can’t be presented at the beach and it’s pretty obvious it’s a beautiful beach. There are numerous restaurants, nightclubs, clothing shops and ocean front hotels! No wonder its one of Americas most hotspot to go spend a night or two. The many clashes of speech that rebounds off the sidewalks are not only American-English but also Spanish andGerman. BEST of Miami! Yes I am telling you it has the best food, fun fun fun! And the shopping that Miami has to offer is truly unbelievable! Defnitelycannot miss out on this one, even if you’re not so interested in the vibrantmarketing places, the jawdropping restaurants and the daily life entertainments and the brand name stores.... so much to do it’s a one in a lifetimeexperience! Come and visit Bayside!
