Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ June 14, 2020
1st Reading: Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14b-16a Psalm 147 “Praise the
Lord, Jerusalem.” 2nd Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:16-17
Gospel: John 6:51-58 The readings today not only remind us that
God has provided us with food to strengthen & sustain us, but also
that this food is unfamiliar & unique. Moses points out that the
manna the LORD provided in the desert was “unknown to you &
your fathers.” Jesus tells the crowds that the food & drink he
provides is his flesh & blood, previously unknown to be food at all.
As we receive the Eucharist today, let us appreciate the uniqueness
of this true food.
Spiritual Communion Prayer
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the
most Holy Eucharist. I love you above all things
and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I
cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come
at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you
were already there and unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen
Public Mass Information With the COVID-19/Coronavirus situation, the bishops of MN have
been in dialogue with public officials to determine the timing for the
safe return to public celebration of Mass in our state’s parish
Churches. Though the obligation to attend Sunday Mass is still
suspended, the opportunity to attend publicly celebrated Masses will
be allowed. This means following CDC and MDH protocols for
social distancing, sanitizing, and public safety. Beginning May 26,
the public celebration of Mass will be allowed with up to one-fourth
capacity of each Church for the gathered community. At this time,
because of the availability and training of volunteers and staff, only
the 8:30am Sunday and weekday Masses at Most Holy Redeemer
and 8:30am Tuesday Mass at St. Patrick will meet this criteria.
Funerals and Weddings will be handled on a case by case basis.
Thank you for your patience during this time of transition.

Prayer Against Coronavirus Lord Jesus Christ, our Divine Physician, we ask you to guard and
protect us from Coronavirus COVID-19 and all serious illness. For all
that have died from it, have mercy; for
those that are ill now, bring healing. For
those searching for a remedy, enlighten
them; for medical caregivers helping the
sick, strengthen and shield them. For
those working to contain the spread, grant
them success; for those afraid, grant peace. May your precious blood
be our defense and salvation. By your grace, may you turn the evil of

Holy Trinity Sunday
Today the Church honors and reverences the Supreme Majesty of One God in Three Divine Persons. Our
intellect cannot fully grasp or comprehend the essence and life of an Infinite God. This weekend allows each
one who believes in God to contemplate this great Mystery offering humble adoration and a prayer for an
increase of faith. How do we understand the Mystery of the Holy Trinity? “As a flame of a fire has three
qualities, so there is one God in three Persons. How? A flame is made up of brilliant light and red power and
fiery heat. It has brilliant light that it may shine, and red power that it may endure, and fiery heat that it may
burn. Therefore, by the brilliant light understand the Father, who with paternal love opens his brightness to
his faithful; and by the red power, which is in the flame that it may be strong, understand the Son, who took
on a body born from a Virgin, in which his divine wonders were shown; and by the fiery heat understand the
Holy Spirit, who burns ardently in the minds of the faithful… Therefore as these three qualities are found in
one flame, so three Persons must be understood in the Unity of the Divinity (St. Hildegard of Bingen).”
Obviously any analogy of the Holy Trinity is meant to help us grasp something of the Mystery at hand, for
we cannot know everything about this great Mystery on this side of heaven. The Holy Trinity is the central
doctrine of Christianity. God who is One and unique in His infinite substance or nature, is three really
distinct Persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The One and only God is the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit. We know by faith that each person of the Trinity is in relationship with each other and with us. There
are some times in faith where we are more aware of One Person in the Trinity then at other times, even
though we know that all three are present in our lives at every moment. Ultimately we know that God is a
mystery to our human minds, but that should not deter us from entering into a relationship with Him. The
more we spend time in prayer with God the more He invites us to draw into the mystery of His presence.
Though we cannot know everything about God in this life, that should not keep us from a relationship with
Him so that we can know something about Him. We know that God has great love for every person and that
He cares about us intensely. On this Holy Trinity Sunday take time to give thanks for the gift of faith that
allows us to engage in a prayerful relationship with the Triune God.
Travel Season
Summer time even in the midst of the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic offers opportunities to get away for
some needed rest and relaxation. It has been a challenging stretch for many people during these past months.
When I was boy my family would go on a vacation to places like the Black Hills, or the North Shore or
Waukesha, WI to visit my sister in the convent, or visit relatives in southern Iowa. Those were always
renewing experiences for us an a family. No matter where we went on vacation, we always made time to
attend Sunday Mass. Being able to rest and relax a little bit during the summer might be good for all of us.
Remember if you are going out of the area that you can continue to go to Sunday Mass via Facebook as we
continue to go live with the Sunday 8:30 am Mass at Most Holy Redeemer and 10 am Mass at St. Patrick’s
Outdoor venue. Almost every town and city has a Catholic Church that has a Sunday Mass and/or live
streaming the Mass. Just because it is summer or a time of pandemic it doesn’t give any Catholic the right to
shut off religious practice for the next few months. It is our joy and right as Catholics to go to Mass every
Sunday even if it be temporarily through online, TV, radio or other special means.
God bless you!
