I am honored to be a part of your academic progress and am excited to get to know you and your parents. Going beyond the world of reality into the world of the imagined, learning from and celebrating with the written word are among the most valuable endeavors one can undergo in life. The work we will do in this classroom will do just that. Beyond reading important literary works and informational texts, as well as developing your writing skills, you will explore important topics and themes that are relevant to your lives now and in the future. The topics we will encounter this school year are influenced by current events/issues, however the material we will study ranges from important historical documents to literary works by Shakespeare and Dickinson. Our class will be centered around a few major interconnected concepts that will build upon each other -- Identity, Hatred & Prejudice, War, and Health. This semester we will primarily focus on developing analytical skills and using narrative writing techniques. Next semester, we will focus our efforts on reading informative texts, and researching and developing a sound argument.
