DEVELOPMENT OF M HEALTH APPLICATION

Introduction• mHealth broadly encompasses the use of mobile

telecommunication and multimedia technologies as they are integrated within increasingly mobile and wireless health care delivery systems .It can be defined as “mobile computing, medical sensor, and communications technologies for health care”.

Problem statement: development of mVirtual Health

application.

Rationale: 1. mHealth is a user oriented health service so the assessment of its acceptability is a must.

2. mHealth has a huge potential to make a difference in preventive health care which has not been studied yet in India.

• 86% respondents had some experience of using internet

• Majority expressed interest in the portal and its features

• 70% wanted to learn the use

• Important barriers were computer or broadband access and privacy

• Majority preferred use of a small handheld device like an iPad than a desktop PC

• Majority believed that mHealth would improve efficiency and patient care

• 85% of participants were very willing to use mHealth to help manage their pain condition

• 59% used cell phones and 41% regularly searched internet

• Potential barriers included cost, privacy concerns, and functional limitations like visual and auditory deficits

4. McGillicuddy JW (2013): Patient attitudes toward mobile phone-based health monitoring: questionnaire study among kidney transplant recipients.

• 90% of respondents own a mobile yet only 7% had a prior knowledge of mobile based remote monitoring

• 79% had positive attitude towards its use if it was available free of cost

• Majority believed that it would improve self-efficacy and provider driven medical management

• Believed privacy would be maintained

• Study area: Delhi and NCR

• Study design: Cross Sectional And Descriptive

• Study population: Mobile Phone Users Of Delhi and NCR

• Sample size: Consisted Of 57 Mobile Users

• Tools and techniques: Written Questionnaire And Personal Interviews.

• Data analysis : Using SPSS

Survey findings:

• Fig.1 Do you think a tool that will measure your body vitals (blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI, temperature, ECG and pulse oximetry) and apprise you of your health status immediately will be useful

Discussion of Study Findings

most of the people agreed that a tool apprising them of their health status regularly will be useful

people have no reservations in accessing their health records via a web portal

majority of people agree that mHealth can be instrumental in bringing down health care costs

people agree that mHealth has potential to improve quality of healtcare
