    Introduction

This VLT 3000 to 5000 converter is a tool intendedfor the conversion of a VLT 3000 to a VLT 5000,which replaces the VLT 3000. The conversion ispossible for all VLT 3000s with the serial numbersfrom XXXXXXG265.

To purchase (obligatory):- VLT 5000 175X- Software version 17.1x incl. memory option for

    standard RS 485 communication,ordering no. 175z3389

    - Software version 17.1x incl. memory option andProfibus option,

    ordering no. 175z4668

Optional:- Backplate for 5001-5005 Compact IP 20, ordering

no. 175Z2349- Separate relay card, ordering no.

    175Z1814

If two high voltage relays are needed in VLT 5000 aseparate relay card must be purchasedOrdering number 176F1814

For the VLT 5001-5005 Compact IP20 the conversionthe purchase of a backplate (ordering number175Z2349) is optional aswell.

Please notify some parameters in the VLT 3000 arenot supported in the VLT 5000 (see for examplepage 5, parameter 107) and some VLT 5000parameters can not be accessed via serialcommunication.

    Configuration

With the 17.1x software the VLT 5000 will react onthe Profibus network or the Standard Serial RS485as a VLT 3000; it means that it is not necessary tochange anything in the PLC programme. A writecommand to for example ramp up time in VLT 3000is automatically linked to the corresponding rampup t ime parameter in VLT 5000. The GSD file in theVLT 5000 will also be as the VLT 3000.

Please note that the converter software will onlywork on a Profibus DP Norm network. It will notwork on a Sinec L2 or a Siemens DP network. Youcan check your Profibus network either by the VLT3000 or by the master.

After copying the baud rate, PPO type and stationaddress from the VLT 3000 to the VLT 5000, powermust be re-cycled to the VLT 5000 as theseparameters are only valid after power up. Themaster should now recognize VLT 5000.

The two LED next to the Profibus connector shouldnow be solid green which indicates thatcommunication between master and slave isestablished.

IM 308-B ver. 6 IM 308-CThis master supports This master supportsProfibus DP Norm Profibus DP Norm

We support Profibus DP Norm by VLT 3000 with asoftware version that should be higher than version3.00. The software version number can be readout in parameter 603, choice 3. The master mustbe a Profibus DP Norm master. If a master fromSiemens S5 series is used the master must be anIM-308C or IM-308B and higher or equal to version6. All Siemens S7 series are Profibus DP Norm.

    Setup of the converter software

Before VLT 3000 can be replaced with a VLT 5000some parameters need to be setup in the VLT 5000.Ensure that the parameters in the below table havethe same setting in VLT 5000 as in VLT 3000.

    Bus connection

If LED 1 or LED 4 flashes, the master has notrecognized the LVT 5000. Check if Baud rate, PPOtype and station address are the same in the VLT5000 as the VLT 3000.

NOTE:VLT 5000 has other physical connectionscompared to VLT 3000.
