The tensions between abstraction and representation are at the forefront of this exhibition of new paintings by Toronto-based artist Dariusz Krzeminski titled Settlement. Familiar motifs such as still lifes and landscape are slowly turned upside-down, resulting in an uneasy space between enclosure and structural instability, and the demands of the painting process. Dariusz Krzeminski was born in Poland in 1963. As a teenager, he left Poland in 1981, leaving his family behind. He spent three years in Germany where he was exposed to modern western and German art, which made a strong impression on him. Krzeminski immigrated to Canada where he completed his fine art education, receiving an Honours BFA in visual arts from York University. He completed his independent study in painting and drawing, under Claude Breeze and Eugenio Tellez, and received the Jack Bush Scholarship. Since graduating, Krzeminski has been working as an artist and professional photographer, specializing in documentary and fine art photography. for more information, contact: Kevin Rodgers/Megan McNeil modern fuel artist-run centre 21 Queen St. Kingston, ON K7K 1A1 (613) 548-4883 [email protected] www.modernfuel.org SETTLEMENT Dariusz Krzeminski coming up at modern fuel: On August 28th, join us for the third installment of Unibrow, a quasi-monthly film event series features the most exciting art house cinema from around the world.
