“You look at it [a photograph] and all around the real world is humming, buzzing and moving, and yet in this little frame there is stillness that looks like the world. That connection, that collision, that interfacing, is one of the most astonishing things we can experience.”

“I think about photographs as being full, or empty. You picture something in a frame and it's got lots of accounting going on in it--stones and buildings and trees and air--but that's not what fills up a frame. You fill up the frame with feelings, energy, discovery, and risk, and leave room enough for someone else to get in there.”

My Critique: The thing I like most about Joel Meyerowitzs’ work is his ability to find and shoot out Of the ordinary scenes that make you think and have to look twice at the print. I like this picture Because it incorporates both his styles, simple and city scene. On the left the lighthouseRepresents his simple shooting style and on the right the bridge represents what he is most Known for shooting, street shots.

"Then I thought, Whoa. If there are no photographs, then there is no history.I'm going to get in there.I'm going to make these pictures. We need a record.”

• After the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, Meyerowitz began to create pictures displaying the destruction and recovery of ground zero and the immediate neighborhood. It consists of 8,000 images.
