THE PROJECTModel European Union (MEU) is an informal educational project that aims to bring the complex structure of the EU’s decision-making process closer to young individuals.

180 participants from more than 30 countries will take on the roles of Ministers of the Council, Members of the European Parliament, lobbyists, journalists or interpreters for one week in spring at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The participants will have the opportunity to improve both their academic and personal skills. They will learn how to interact with others in a professional environment and the simulation will strengthen their understanding of the internal functioning of the EU.

The conference concludes with a Partners’ Fair which informs participants about the possibilities to voluntarily engage in European civil society.

THE ASSOCIATION

ORGANISING TEAM

MODEL EUROPEAN UNION first began in 2007. Only one year later, the Bringing Europeans Together Association was founded in Mainz, Germany, to provide MEU with sustainable administrative and legal structures.

The MEU 2013 organising team is a group of 65 highly dedicated, carefully selected, young and enthusiastic people, most of whom have already successfully organised or taken part in a MEU event. Coming from 26 different European countries, they work together throughout the year on a voluntary basis to organise Europe’s most prestigious simulation of EU politics.

BETA is a European politically independent, non-profit association which seeks to inspire young people and to promote intercultural exchanges, understanding and open-mindedness across Europe and beyond.

In 2013, 180 young people will meet in Strasbourg to explore the functioning of the European Union.

They will simulate:

1. The ordinary legislative procedure regarding the proposal about strengthening music copy-right in the EU, and

2. Croatia’s EU membership accession negotia-tions.
