    Press Release

The Municipality of Metsovo holds a Tasting Festival on the 28th and 29th September

under the project IN.COME - INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF MEDITERRANEAN

    GASTRONOMY

The Municipality of Metsovo under the project IN.COME - INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF

MEDITERRANEAN GASTRONOMY which is funded by the bilateral European Territorial Cooperation

program Greece Italy 2007-2013 will hold on the 28th and 29th September a two-day Greek and

Italian Tasting Festival at the central square of Metsovo.

The reference area of the project consists of two cities from the Province of Brindisi (Ceglie Messapica

Carovigno), the Municipality of Metsovo and the Prefecture of Western Greece.

The festival will hopefully form a new institution that will put Metsovo on the map of autumns

culinary destinations. It is worth noting that it is the first time that Mestovo will hold an event like

    this.

During the two-day festival, visitors will have the opportunity to walk around the stands of the

exhibition which will be "dressed" with local flavors from Metsovo and Italian products that stand out

for their quality. Local cheeses, dairy products, wines, types of traditional Greek frumenty and

noodles, potatoes even kontosouvli will be there to tempt the visitors.

The exhibitors make typical agricultural products which form the diet of the area and they are given

the opportunity to present and promote their traditional products, in an effort to win the crucial

challenge of openness. The two-day festival, which will have television coverage, will be enriched by

the presence of local bands and a children dancing group.

Experts of the field are also expected to participate as, during the festival, chefs will cook for the

public, as well as the women of the village and also Greek and Italian students from the

corresponding gastronomy schools of the neighboring country who followed relevant training

    programs within the INCOME project.

At the same time, at the stand of the Municipality of Metsovo relevant informative material will be

distributed to the visitors regarding the area Metsovo is situated in, the traditional local products and

all that make this particular area of Epirus a special destination which changes depending on the

seasons, taking every time the color of each season.

It should be noted that the project "INCOME - International Centre of Mediterranean Gastronomy", is

funded by Axis 1 of the bilateral European Territorial Cooperation Program "Greece - Italy 2007-2013"

    - Enhancing Competitiveness and Innovation and is the application of the experience acquired on the

international School of Mediterranean Gastronomy, created by the financial support of the program

Interreg IIIA Greece-Italy" and managed by the Municipality of Ceglie Messapica and various

    partners.

The idea behind the project focuses on the importance of the cross-border cooperation for the

sustainable development of the involved areas through the use of typical agricultural products of the

industry, multifunctional agriculture, gastronomy and alternative tourism that have common

characteristics, using innovative strategies in order to compete in the global market.
