    She has been around for a while, she is as wise as she

    is strong. She is super involved in Metropolis events

    and activities, and she loves the Giants

    How long have you been crossfitting?I'vebeenCrossFittingfor2.5years-allatCFM(1.0and2.0)I'm sure your favorite, as well as your dreaded move-ments, have evolved over time. Can you give us atimeline describing some?Ididn'treallyhaveafavoritemovementinitially-IhadtoscaleEVERYTHING!SoIguessmaybetheburpee!Oh,andthepullup-onceIgotthatelusivefirstonewithouttheband,theyquicklyreplacedthepushupasmyfavoritebodyweightmovement.Andthesplitjerkquicklybecamemyfavoritelift.Butasfar

    asdreadedthereweredefinitelyafew.Thesnatchhasbeenconsistentlydifficultformefromday1,withminimalprogressover2years.ThenIbecameveryinterestedinOlyliftingingeneral,andhavebeenspendingalotoftimeonthetechnique.NowIlovethem,andjusthavetobecomemoreconfidentandfastersothatIcanaddtheheavyweight.Pistolsandmuscleupsstilleludeme.ButIwillkeeppluggingawayatthem,causethat'swhatwedo.Burpee challenge*: how did it start? Why? How did youand Cankles become the last to survive it? What didyou learn from it? Would you do it again?Someoneatthegymannouncedtheysawanotherboxdoingtheburpeechallenge.Ithink7or8ofussigneduptodoachallengeofourown,andCanksandIwerethelast2standing.Iamdefinite-lysomeonethatfinisheswhatIstartinallas-

    pectsofmylife,soitreallywasn'taquestionformethatIwouldsurviveit.Itwasalsoreallyhelpfultohaveafriendbeingtorturedatthesametimetocommiser-atewith.Ilearneditisimportanttogoslowandsteadytogethighrepsofburpees,oryouwillburnoutquick-ly.Hellno!Iwouldnotdoitagain!

    As one of our veteran Crossfitters, any wise words tothe relatively new?Iwouldsayjustdon'tgetfrustratedandlistentoyourcoaches.Forthemajorityofus,ittakesawhiletogetproficientatthesenewmove-ments.WhenIstartedIhadonly

    donebenchpressanddeadliftwithabarbell,andIwasprettyintimidatedbyeverythingelse.Butthatfadedveryquicklywiththeexpertcoachingandsupportwehavehere.Iwasalsoslowasmolassesoneverything,andthatchangedquicklyalso-CFgetsyouconditionedfast!Juststickwitheverythingandlistentothecoaches!Whentheytellyoutodeloadthebaruntilyourtechniqueisperfect,doit!Whentheytellyoutodothepushupsfromyourkneesuntilyoucan

    getyourchesttodeckonyourtoes,doit!Sometimesyouhavetotakeasmallstepbackwardstogofurtherinthelongrun.Leaveyouregoatthedoor-Ibelievethatisoneofourmajorgymrules!Here used to be a ginger crew; are you now the loneginger?

    Well,gingersaresupposedlybecomingextinct,soIguessit'snosurprisethatitisslowlyhappeningatCFMtoo.But,sinceMPleftus,Kimhascomeonboard,andDTisstillhere.So,no,nottheloneginger,butcertainlyoneoftheselectfew!Gingerson3!

    Biggest Loser: Andy DutyHe had just joined Metropolis and decided to dive into the Nutrition Challenge. Holy Moly! CheckWhatmadeyoudecidetojointheNutritionChal-lenge?IdecidedtoentertheNCbecauseIdesperately

    neededit,formanyreasons.One,Iknewthatre-gardlessofwhatIwasdoinginthegym,itwouldn'tmatterifIwasn'teatingright.Second,thewaythechallengewassetup,asanall-or-nothing,extend-edtime,CHALLENGE,monitoredwithabuddysys-tem(Ihadagreatbuddy-WillManning!),wasthebestwayformetokickstartthenutritionalaspectsofmyCrossFit/better-healthjourney.Third,IwasstillreallynewtoCFwhenthechallengestarted,andIknewthattheNCwouldbeagreatwaytogetmoreinvolvedwiththegym,meetmoremembers,andencouragemetostepupmygameinthegym(oneaspectofthechallengewastoincreasemy

    WODs/week).Whatwasthemostchallenging?Actually,Ilovedthedietportion.Ididn'thaveterri-blyhealthyeatingpatternsatthetimeofthestart,especiallycomingofftheholidays,butIloveeatinghealthy,andIalwaysfeelbetterwhendoingso,sothechangeindietandeatinghabitswereawel-comedpartofthechallengeforme.Thehardestpartformewasthe8+hoursofsleepanight.I'manightowlandhaveatendencytostayupwaytoolate,especiallywhenIdoaWODintheevening,

    whichwasgenerallythetimeIwoulddomyWODs.However,Ireallytriedtokeeparegular

    8+hoursleepingscheduleduringthechallenge,anditwasbeneficial.

    WhatwasthemosteffectivepartoftheNC?IlikedthewaytheNCwassetupandhowitwasmonitoredandscored.Itwasn'tjustaboutweightloss,eventhoughIdidloseadecadeofpounds.Itwasallinclusive:changesinstrengthandendur-ancethroughbenchmarkWODs,dailyjournaling/monitoringoffoodintake,andweevenhadagreatFacebookgroupwherewesharedourups/downsandthemanygreatrecipesthatallthelittlechefsinthechallengewerecookingup.Wecouldhaveturnedthatwallintoacookbook.HowhavelifeanddietbeenpostNC?

    ImadesignificantimprovementsinmyWODperfor-mance,strengthandendurance,andoverallflexi-bilitysoitreallyputmeonagreattrajectoryforcon-tinuedimprovementatthegym.Infact,inadditiontobodychanges,thatwasthemostsignificantpartoftheNC.IwasabletoseeimprovementsinmyperformanceintheWODswhichhasgivenmegreatencouragementinmyCrossFitabilities.Ihavealongwaytogoofcourse,butI'mencour-aged.Ihaven'tbeenasstrictonmydietsincetheNC,butIhavetriedtoimplementthemainaspectsthatIlearnedfromthedietportionofthechallenge,

    mainlyportioncontrolandeatingquality,wholefood.Ialsosleepalotmore.
