The next “Meet the Managers” session will be held February 27 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Family Impact Center (105 East Ash Street). The session will focus on Arts, Hospitality, and Tourism. Please see page three of this newsletter for information you can share with others. On February 28, members are invited to Access Arts (1724 McAlester Street) for a fellowship activity from 7:00-9:00 p.m. For only $5 each, members will make handmade clay bowls to raise awareness and funds to combat hunger locally. The completed bowls will be auctioned at their Empty Bowls charity event. Please RSVP to Cale Mitchell if you plan to attend. Metro’s Community Service Committee will meet March 7 at 1:00 p.m. A panel discussion is being planned for March 17 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Jabberwocky Studios (1308 Grand Avenue). The topic will be immigration. Please contact Sarah Read for more information. Metro Rotarians will participate in a Clean Up Columbia activity on April 14. Leah Christian will coordinate our efforts. Please watch this newsletter and the club website for details. The annual Rotary Student Government Day is scheduled for April 19. Please contact Shane

Winter if you would like to assist. Nominations for RYLA attendees are still being accepted. If you know of a student currently in his/her freshman year of high school that would benefit from this leadership opportunity, please consider completing a nomination form and submitting it to President Tom. Nominations for the 2018 Vocational Service Award are now being accepted. The nomination form is on the club website. Please contact Rob Christensen if you have any questions. If you have used eyeglasses (or frames or parts) that you are no longer using, please consider donating them to Rotary District 6080. The glasses can be used during future visits to other countries where less fortunate people need vision assistance. Contact President Tom if you wish to donate.

LFCS HELPS FAMILIES Lutheran Family and Children’s Services (LFCS) opened a regional office in Columbia in 1995. The non-profit agency helps families, children and individuals experience greater hope and wholeness of life. Their services are open to everyone regardless of race, faith, national origin, gender or age. Heather Wall, Director of LFCS, and Trueman Orson, Regional Development Officer spoke to members about the services they provide. � Adoption Services –

LFCS is a licensed and

accredited agency able

to provide services for both domestic and

intercountry adoption.

� Pregnancy Services – Counseling, referrals and/or

assistance (i.e. medical needs, transportation,

housing/utilities, legal work), support group and

follow-up services.

� Nurturing Network Program – Evidence-based

curriculum that teaches parents the importance of

nurturing themselves in an effort to better nurture

their children.

� Maternal Mental Health Counseling – Works with

both the mother and the children to assure

everyone is getting the help they need.

LFCS is supported through grants and contracts with public agencies. They receive private foundation support, United Way affiliations support and contract various services with various cities/counties. They also receive state support for specific services and projects. Volunteers are always welcomed, and members were encouraged to contact the local office to donate time or resources.
