MESSAGE FROM THE

PRESIDENT

Kudos to the Community Outreach Committee for an outstanding job in selecting this year’s winners. Special thanks to Rob Kreiling and Karen McRae for all their hard work and dedication. An expression

of gratitude goes to Know Atlanta Magazine for their coverage of MARC’s Scholarship Award.

Leigh MasseyHappy New Year! I love the start of a new year; all the excitement of the possibilities of the next twelve months. And that is especially true this year, as I begin my role as MARC’s 2013 President. I am so humbled and honored to hold this office and truly understand what big shoes I must fill. I want to thank Jan LeQuier for her leadership this past year and all of the Board of Directors for their volunteer spirit. MARC stands before you with solid membership numbers, strong financial footing, and innovative goals for the future. And I especially want to thank the members of MARC – your continued dedication to this group is what makes it so great! And so I ask you – even challenge you – to help the Board of Directors and Committees take MARC into the future. Help us build valuable programs and bring fresh ideas to our industry. Even if you are unable to join a committee, make it a personal goal to write an article for the newsletter, send us recommendations for speakers and sessions, or commit to sending MARC Scholarship applications to schools in your area. What may seem like a small gesture could be the next great MARC event!

MARC is your organization, so please tell us what you love or what needs improvement – there are no bad ideas. My door is always open and I welcome your suggestions – email me anytime [email protected]. I wish each one of you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013! Best,

Leigh Massey

And the Winner Is…Thanks so much to all members who took the time to vote in our recent election for the 2012 MARC Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is our guiding force for MARC, so finding the right people to fill the chairs on this Board is incredibly important. Each person elected agrees to a term of three years and to chair or co-chair one of the BOD’s committees: Programs, Membership, Community Outreach, Website and Technology, Sponsorship, and Newsletter.

This year, we were able to vote through our newly re-launched website for this election. Not only were your individual votes accessible only by the MARC administrator, they were also instantly tabulated. Much improved since the days of mailing out ballots, waiting to receive them and physically counting each ballot. What used to take weeks, now takes just a few days.

Thanks to each of you that agreed to run for the BOD. It is a definite commitment of time and effort, so we greatly appreciate your willing-ness to oversee the success of MARC for the next three years.

The following members of MARC will be joining the Board of Directors for 2013: Bob Packard, Michael Nimer, Theresa Kolany, Teresa Smith, Jeff Morris, Karen McRae, and Emerson Ross. My personal thanks to Mack Zittrouer and Jennifer Bowler for serving on the Nominating Committee with me and for the outstanding job they did in sourcing members to run for election.

The Cherokee Country Club was the host of this year’s Holiday Luncheon which was held on Thursday December 13th. This beautiful and scenic country club, which is sister to the Cherokee Town Club, is located in Sandy Springs. This new venue set the stage for a great afternoon full of holiday cheer. Serenaded by Atlanta Harpist, Catherine Rogers , MARC members enjoyed music, delicious food and came bearing gifts for the annual Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital toy drive. Jan Lequier and the 2012 Board were recognized for all their hard work in the past year. Keeping with tradition, the new 2013 Board of Directors and Advisory Council was introduced. Jan Lequier passed the gavel to the new incoming President, Leigh Massey. A big thanks to Jan Lequier for a great year and to all those who served in 2012. Congratulations to Leigh Massey, MARC’s 2013 President.

Congratulations to Joyce Brown, CRP, GMS who retired from Altair Global Relocation in December 2012. Joyce has been a long-time member of MARC and played a vital role in the relocation industry. After winning a scholarship to Ball State University, Joyce studied Fine Arts and Journalism with the thought of becoming a commercial artist. As life began to unfold, she found herself in sales and management where she spent a large part of her forty-two year career. The last thirty-four years were spent in the Corporate Relocation Industry where she worked for such companies as: National Residential, CHA, Mortgage Team Concepts (her own company) and most recently, nine years with Altair Global Relocation. In addition to a successful corporate career, Joyce has been very active in many of the Regional ERC Groups, founding the SRRC in Florida (1998) and the TRC in Tennessee (2012.) She has been a frequent speaker and panelist at many regional groups and the national ERC. Her contributions to activities outside of her work have led her to facilitating self-help workshops, becoming the county-wide chairman of The Holiday Project, and participating in many other volunteer roles. Joyce and her husband Vic, reside in Ocala, FL. Together they have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. If you would like to stay in touch, you may contact her via cell at 561-376-1121 or [email protected].

Just a few tips to help you gain more from the MARC website, www.marcatlanta.org

• Remember to log into the site before you register for an event and/or pay dues. This way the system can identify you as a member and record your transaction under com-munications in case you need a receipt during the future.

• Dues invoices have been sent and by the end of January you should have received two reminder notices if you have not paid your dues. If for any reason you have not received then please notify us immediately at [email protected].

• Check you information on the website, is your address, phone number and email correct? Is the information for

your organization correct? If you find any information that needs to be updated please let us know and we will adjust accordingly. ([email protected])

• Do you want to sign up for a committee or see who is on one? Once you have logged in, check out the committee tab on the left, and then access the committee and the members under the View Committee Member Details.

• Win a $50 gift certificate: the first person to email me at [email protected] with the names of the four people that serve on the Community Outreach and Scholarship Committee with Karen McRae and Mike Puckett wins the gift card.

MARC is now taking applications for its 2013 Scholarship Program. If you know a high school student who is a senior and who has relocated to the Atlanta area please have them apply! Qualified students must have relocated more than 50 miles sometime between grades 9 (after 8th grade graduation) and 12 and changed schools due to their family’s relocation. Residence eligibility is defined as a senior attending a private or public school in any city or county district within Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb or Gwinnett Counties as well as any county immediately bordering these counties. They must also have a current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 (or equivalent achievement on a different scale).

Students will be evaluated on academic performance, extra-curricular activities, and on their response to an essay addressing the way they handled the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and a new high school. The one-time award of $1,500 will be presented to an area high school senior this year and will be sent to the college that the student will be attending to assist with tuition, etc. Applications must be received by March 15, 2013 to have time for evaluation and selection. The scholarship will be awarded during the Spring meeting in mid-April. The winner will be asked to present his/her essay. The application can be downloaded at www.MARCAtlanta.org. For more information, please contact Karen McRae, Community Outreach/Scholarship Committee Chair, (770) 916-4030, [email protected] or Mike Puckett, Community Outreach/Scholarship Committee Co-Chair, (770) 904-0526, [email protected].
