Flair of innovative design has made “METCON” a major producer of not only packaged equipment but also a turnkey water management provider. Turnkey responsibilities form raw water sample analysis, design, engineering, supply, erection, assembling and commissioning starting from civil work mechanical fabrication at site, electrical or instrumentation mounting, cabling is taken care by our experienced and trained field staff. We are upgrading ourselves with most advanced technologies as a solution oriented company that makes decision based on customer requirements and the latest market needs. The pages of this profile describe some of the differences in more detail.

The importance of protecting the environment has never been greater than now. Environmental damage has already caused the extinction of hundreds of species of plant and animals. Human beings themselves are now under threat. There is an urgent need to protect the water we drink and use As of 2006; waterborne diseases are estimated to cause 1.8 million deaths each year. These deaths are attributable to inadequate public sanitation systems and it is clear that proper sewerage (or other options as small-scale water treatment) need to be installed Appropriate technology options in water treatment include both community-scale and household-scale point-of-use (POU) designs In order for the decrease of waterborne diseases to have long term effects, water treatment programs implemented by research and development groups in developing countries must be sustainable by its own residents. This can ensure the efficiency of such programs after the departure of the research team as monitoring is difficult because of the remoteness of many locations In Metcon It is our privilege to manage this increasingly scarce resource by providing total water management solutions. Purifying water to ensure safe drinking water for homes and communities. Treating water with care to meet the

quality requirements for any process. Removing pollutants from wastewater. Recycling and recovering water and valuable products for reuse. Reducing waste and pollution.

Description of Different Products

Filters Metcon" Flowtex series 2001 of Filter like Dual Media, IRF, Multimedia & ACF filters are used for commercial, industrial and domestic application requiring removal of iron, turbidity, suspended solids, colour, manganese, odour, chlorine and organics. The Filters available are manual, semi automatic and automatic models. The construction of vessel is mild steel, MSRL or FRP. Filters provide crystal clear water of turbidity <5mg/lt and iron as Fe<0.3 ppm. Normal filtering medium employed is clean sieved and graded gravels, fine sand and garnet. For application like iron removal birm and catalytic filtering sand is used unlike for, Activated Carbon alters granular coal and activated carbon is used.

Softeners "Metcon" Flowtex series 2001 Softeners have an application in the commercial, industrial and domestic application where there is a need of Soft water. The Softeners are available in manual, semi automatic and automatic models. The construction of vessel is mild steel, MSRL or FRP. Water of hardness <5ppm provided the feed water is free from iron, turbidity, chlorine, oil and grease. "Metcon" Softener works on the principle of ion exchange, based on the counter/co "flow regeneration system. When the water passes through the bed of cation exchange resin absorbs Calcium and Magnesium ions gives sodium ions in exchange. This chemical reaction involves substitution. The sodium ions do not contribute to the hardness and therefore the treated water is soft. Once the resin bed has exhausted it needs to be regenerated with Brine Solution. Oxidation Chamber

Oxidation Chamber is used prior to the media filter for oxidation of Iron and conversion of Ferrous Ion to Ferric, which will subsequently increase the efficiency of the media filter for removal of Iron. Metcon has a wide range of Oxidation Chamber to solve the water related problem. It con be use in water treatment plant as a pre treatment unit where iron content in the raw water is high coupled with aeration system to achieve desire water quality.

Mixed Bed Deionizers Mixed Bed Deionizers are designed to produce high purity treated water for critical application. Mixed Bed deionizers are single column deionizers filled with intimately mixed cation and anion exchanger resin mixed together evenly through which the water flows. Ionized solids are thereby removed producing water of very high quality, which confirms to IP specification of purified water.

Demineralizer Metcon offers a wide range of Demineralizer, which have an application in the commercial and industrial sectors wherever there is a requirement for the water of high purity level. The Demineralizers are available in manual, semi automatic and automatic models. The construction of vessel is PVC, MSRL or FRP. Demineralizers provide pure water of conductivity < 10 microsemens / cm provided the feed water is free from iron, turbidity, chlorine, oil and grease. “Metcon” range of Demineralizers incorporates the proven counter flow technique of regeneration, which produces water of high purity. The water is made to pass through a bed of Cation Exchange Resin, which is in hydrogen form. All dissolved solids causing hardness such as Ca, Mg etc. are exchanged with H+ and are converted into respective acids. The acidic effluent is then passed into the Anion bed, which is in hydroxyl (OH) form, which retains bi-carbonate, Sulphate ions, producing water equivalent to distilled water. Degasser

A degasser consists essentially of a degasser tower with integral tank, a degasser air blower and a degassed water pump with necessary piping and valves t. The tower portion is packed with pvc pall rings. The air blower is connected by air ducting to the tower just above the tank portion. The cation exchanger converts alkalinity present in raw water to its equivalent acid, i.e. Carbonic acid. The anion exchanger absorbs this along with other acids in cation exchanger treated water. Where water has a high alkalinity the ionic load on the anion can be brought down by using another method to remove carbonic acid. The carbon dioxide can be removed mechanically by means of degasser.

Reverse Osmosis The Reverse Osmosis uses a semi-permeable membrane, spiral wound membrane to separate and remove the dissolved solids, organics, pyrogen sub micron colloidal matter and bacteria from the water. Feed water Delivered less than 200 psig of pressure through the membrane where the water permeates through the minute pores and is delivered as purified product water. Impurities in the water are concentrated in the reject stream and flushed into the drain. Reverse Osmosis system is capable of removing 90-98% of dissolved salts from water including pyrogen and 99% of all bacteria. "Metcon" R.O. are designed to recover high permeate flow and achieve longer life cycle of the membrane.

Ultra filtration

Ultra filtration membrane filter micro-organisms including their floating dead bodies, cysts and spores from your drinking water by physically filtering them out through a membrane. Ultrafiltration membrane is full proof because water passes through a membrane whose pore size is so small that no bacteria or virus can pass through it. Till Ultra filtration membrane gives water, the water is 100% pure and safe. Ultra filtration membrane works on the same principle used by nature to absorb purified water from dirty subsoil water eg. Coconut water. Hence water purified by Ultrafiltration membrane tastes natural. There is no operating cost of Ultrafiltration membrane as it does not consume electricity but works on overhead tank pressure.

Electro deionization Electro deionization or EDI is a continuous and chemical free

process of removing ionised and ionisable substances from water using ion exchange membranes, electrically active media (typically ion exchange resin) and a DC electric potential .Through this revolutionary technique dissolved salt can be removed with low energy cost and without the need for chemical regeneration the result is high quality pure water of 18.2 megaohms/cm resistivity which can be produced continuously. EDI is typically used to polish Reverse Osmosis permeate and replace conventional Mixed Bed ion exchange by elimination, we need to stare and handle hazardous chemical used for resin regeneration and associated waste ventrilisation requirements. Electro deionization technology has been widely accepted in many markets such as the Pharmaceutical, Power microelectronic and Food /beverage industry. The structural design of EDI system reduces the distance between anode and cathod resulting in less energy headed to remove unwanted ion. By coupling the wiring sequence of DC modules with our special EDI retification package it result in an substantial energy saving compared to conventional plate and frame system.

Ozone Generator Ozone is triatomic allotrope of oxygen used in water treatment for Oxidation, Inactivation, Filtering and Disinfection. Ozone is produced by passing dry compressed air through two concentric electrodes having a dielectric in between them. A high voltage is applied between both the electrodes to produce a Corona Discharge. As the feed air is passed through the high voltage electric field, a portion of oxygen of the air gets converted to Ozone. Ozone is light blue in colour with a distinctive pungent odour. The system is totally automatic and maintenance free with no refilling or replacement or recurring costs.

Ultra Violet Water Disinfections System

Metcon’s Ultra Violet Water Disinfections System is based on the principle of destroying bacteria, virus, yeast, and algae in water by exposure to high intensity UV rays. UV disinfection system is more effective than boiling or chlorinating. Disease causing bacteria, ethnic virus, hepatitis virus and logion Ella pneumoplila survive for long periods in chlorine but are eliminated instantly by UV rays.

Chemical Dosing Systems Metcon offers a select range of chemical dosing system. Systems available are:

• Electronic Metering Pump. • Dosermatic, (Plunger type). • Mechanical Doser.

Electronic Metering Pump Electronic Metering Pump consists of electric pump, level indicator, low-level switch and agitator (optional) provides optimised approach towards safe and economical addition. Electronic pump is a positive displacement diaphragm type actuated by solenoid and solid state polisher. Both stroke and length frequency of the pump can be adjusted. Dosermatic It is a compact portable and self priming system, where the water passing through Dosermatic drives piston up and down in the reciprocating motion. The piston in turn drives a small plunger, which sucks the chemicals in each stroke and delivers it uniformly at an adjustable rate. The chemical uptake is directly volumetrically proportional to water flow. Mechanical Doser In mechanical doser the differential pressure is created by venture/orifice assembly used to impel the solution into the line. The solution is contained inside a rubber bag placed within the MS vessel. The flexible membrane avoids mixing of incoming water and expels the solution into the mains. Since, volume of solution leaving the bag is equal to the quantity of water entering the vessel; it is easy to regulate the dose.

Treatment Philosophy of Different Products Used in ETP & STP

Bar Screen

Bar Screen separate the solid particles as well as leaves, twigs etc.. Water passes through the bar screens for rag removal. In this section, bar screen cleaners remove large solids (rags, plastics, etc.) from the raw sewage. The collected material is placed in dumpsters to be taken later to the landfill. The action of the bar screen equipment is paced according to the amount of incoming solids and the flow rate.

Primary sedimentation tanks/ Equalization Tank Equalization Tank (Pre Treatment Unit) - Sewage flows through large tanks, commonly called "primary clarifiers" or "primary sedimentation tanks". The tanks are large enough that sludge can settle and floating material such as grease and oils can rise to the surface and be skimmed off. The main purpose of the primary sedimentation stage is to produce both a generally homogeneous liquid capable of being treated biologically and a sludge that can be separately treated or processed. Primary settling tanks are usually equipped with mechanically driven scrapers that continually drive the collected sludge towards a hopper in the base of the tank from where it can be pumped to further sludge treatment stages.

Aeration System

Aeration System (Pre Treatment Unit): Sewage liquor is run into deep tanks with diffuser blocks attached to the floor. These are like the diffuser blocks used in tropical fish tanks but on a much larger scale. Air is pumped through the blocks and the curtain of bubbles formed both oxygenates the liquor and also provide the necessary stirring action. Where capacity is limited or the sewage is unusually strong or difficult to treat, oxygen may be used instead of air. Typically, the air is generated by some type of blower or compressor. Vertically mounted tubes of up to 1 meter diameter extending from just above the base of a deep concrete tank to just below the surface of the sewage liquor. A typical shaft might be 10 meters high. At the surface end the tube is formed into a cone with helical vanes attached to the inner surface. When the tube is rotated, the vanes spin liquor up and out of the cones drawing new sewage liquor from the base of the tank. In many works each cone is located in a separate cell that can be isolated from the remaining cells if required for maintenance. Some works may have two cones to a cell and some large works may have 4 cones per cell.

Rotating Biological Contractor (RBC)

Rotating Biological Contractor (RBC) The equalized effluent from the equalization tank will be pumped into the RBC unit comprises a series of closely spaced "disks". The disks are partially submerged in the sewage and are slowly rotated through it. The rotating disks support the growth of bacteria and micro-organisms present in the sewage, which breakdown and stabilize organic pollutants. To be successful, micro-organisms need both oxygen to live and food grow. Oxygen is obtained from the atmosphere as the disks rotate. As the micro-organisms grow, they build up on the media until they are sloughed off due to shear forces provided by the rotating discs in the sewage

Dissolve Air Flotation System DAF clarification system has been developed for effective treatment of waste water from various industrial sources is a effective development by the company. This system effectively treats waste water for reduction of oil & grease, suspended solids, BOD & COD. The equalized effluent is pumped into the DAF clarification system along with Flocculants and coagulants by means of chemical dosing systems. This process involves the features of high pressure flotation and separation of solids in DAF. Air is dissolved under pressure in the liquid inside a saturation chamber, which is then released to atmospheric pressure in the flotation cell. As the microscopic air bubbles get released in the effluent tank, they attached to the suspended solids in the liquid causing them to rise to the surface forming a thick sludge. The sludge is then removed by a special skimmer wiper and discharged into the sludge bed by gravity for drying. The waste water travels downward and again moving up through the plate pack and discharged. Clarified effluent at this stage is clear and colorless. Air saturation process helps in aeration of effluent. High pressure dissolution of air into the effluent is done by recycling partially clarified water into the saturation chamber assembled with the DAF unit. Air is entrained through the venturi along the recycle pipeline and carried with the recycled effluent into the saturation chamber and pressurized therein resulting in high pressure saturation of the recycled effluent with air. DAF Clarification system thereby helps effluent to get aeration as well. The major advantage of this system is that as the aeration is done automatically the consumption of chemical reduces for reduction of BOD & COD load.

Fluidized Aerobic Bio-Reactor (FAB) Fluidized Aerobic Bio-Reactor (FAB) (Pre Treatment Unit) as the name indicates consists of floating media of cylindrical shapes and different sizes. As compared to conventional technologies FAB reactors are compact, energy efficient and user friendly. Metcon’s controlled air diffusion FAB based sewage treatment plant works on the principle of attached bacteria growth process supported by specially designed eco-friendly media. This type of treatment depends primarily on the use of air that is introduced into the waste water treatment plant for keeping alive the bacteria. When air diffusion is done, it promotes the growth of organisms that break down the organic solids. Flock forming organisms form clusters or attach to available surfaces. The FAB media provides a very large surface area which

Increases the specific volumetric capacity of activated sludge tanks

-- Controls biomass activity - Reduces operating cost

The clarified effluent enters into the FAB reactor, which contains the FAB media. The FAB media significantly increases the surface area for bacterial growth. Air is supplied through fine bubble diffusers. Bacteria oxidize the organic matter present in the sewage. Oxidized sewage overflows out of the FAB reactor, into the secondary settling tank.

Tube Settler Tube settlers (Secondary Treatment) use multiple tubular channels sloped at an angle of 60° and adjacent to each other, which combine to form an increased effective settling area. This provides for a particle settling depth that is significantly less than the settling depth of a conventional clarifier, reducing settling times. Tube settlers capture the settle able fine floc that escapes the clarification zone beneath the tube settlers and allows the larger floc to travel to the tank bottom in a more settle able form. The tube settler’s channel collects solids into a compact mass which promotes the solids to slide down the tube channel. Tube settlers offer an inexpensive method of upgrading existing water treatment plant clarifiers and sedimentation basins to improve performance. They can also reduce the tankage/footprint required in new installations or improve the performance of existing settling basins by reducing the solids loading on downstream filters. Made of lightweight PVC, tube settlers can be easily supported with minimal structures that often incorporate the effluent trough supports.

They are available in a variety of module sizes and tube lengths to fit any tank geometry, with custom design and engineering offered by the manufacturer.

HRSCC or High Rate Solid Contact Clarifiers HRSCC or High Rate Solid Contact Clarifiers (Pre Treatment Unit) are circular field – erected tanks or pre-fabricated tanks. The design choice depends on the treatment objective, space limitation and operator preferences. The raw and required final treated water quality determines the chemical storage and feed equipment needed for disinfection, coagulation, PH adjustment, coagulation enhancement and floc formulation. The raw / Wastewater, coagulants and large quantities of recirculation precipitates are thoroughly mixed and are retained in intimate contact for prolonged period of time in the draft tube and cone sections of the clarifier. The intimate contact causes the chemical reactions to proceed at a rate with a minimum of coagulants. Further by contacting the water with the great volumes of precipitates in circulation, maximum clarification of the water can be obtained by the adsorptive properties of the precipitates or flocs formed.

Up flow anaerobic sludge blanket process (UASB)

The anaerobic reactor is a “Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor” (UASB). This reactor type is very well suited for wastewater (proven technology). The wastewater enters the reactor through a well designed distribution system and is distributed equally over the bottom of the reactor. This favours the formation of granules and well settling flocs. Subsequently, the wastewater rises in an up flow mode through an expanded bed of anaerobic active methanogenic sludge and leaves the reactor at the top through a gas/collection device that separates the mixed liquor into clarified wastewater, gas and sludge. This “three phase separator” is of the cross flow type and is also equipped with parallel plates. Both these characteristics result in a significant improvement of the sludge separation efficiency. In this way, much more sludge is kept into the reactor, which enhances the overall efficiency and stability of the system. Anaerobic excess sludge can be withdrawn from the bottom of the UASB-reactor. The UASB effluent flows by gravity into an effluent holding tank. In this tank a part of the treated water is recycled by the pump to the inlet of the reactor. The excess amount, which is the final anaerobic effluent, flows by gravity to the Chlorine contact tank. Now the treated effluent is pumped to feed Dual Media Filtration Unit & Activated Carbon Filtration Unit for further tertiary treatment
