Metaphorical Use of English Prepositions

Some prepositions can be used to describe abstract things. In other words

they can be used metaphorically.

Let’s compare some sentences.

• After many hours’ talk, the committee

• arrived at a decision.

• 2. They are all in the lab.

• They are all in the dark about it.

• 3. He took me into the room.

• He let me into the secret.

4. He was killed with an arrow.

• She was seized with panic ( 惊惶失措 )at• the sight of the bad man.• 5.The knife was taken from his pocket.• She was released from her heavy • responsibilities. （卸去重任）• 6. 13. She is at the end of patience.
