THE PRESERVICE PRAISE “The More I Seek You”
THE GREETING
THE OPENING MEDLEY “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” LSB 463
“Our God Saves”
Sometimes the simplest of words carry the greatest of importance. As Jesus speaks with the doubting disciple Thomas gathered in a special room with the disciples a few days after the resurrection, He says simply, “See.” But that is all He needs to say. It confirms the powerful truth that He is indeed arisen from the dead. Today we are faithful people gathered in a different room—but also with those who are disciples of the Lord. And He has promised to be with us and among us in the upper room. As we worship, we will see signs of His abiding presence.

In the name of the Father, in the name of the Son,
In the name of the Spirit, Lord, we come.
We’re gathered together to lift up Your name,
To call on our Savior, to fall on Your grace. (Repeat)

THE INVOCATION
P: Alleluia! We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die
again;
C: Death no longer has dominion over Him. Alleluia!
THE CONFESSION AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF FORGIVENESS
P: Let us confess our sins to God our Father.
C: Almighty God, in humility and with repentant hearts we come
before You. With shame and regret we admit and confess our
sinfulness. We have not lived up to our calling as Your peaceable
people. We have not done the good You demand and have not been
the people You would have us be. We do repent and are truly sorry
for our sins in thought, word, and deed. Have mercy on us, merciful
Father, for the sake of Jesus Christ, Your Son. Forgive us all that
needs Your forgiving grace, and with the power of the Holy Spirit,
direct us to serve You faithfully all our days through Jesus Christ,
our Lord.
P: When Jesus appeared to the disciples on Easter evening He told them,
"If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them." Almighty God in
His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you
all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of the Word, I, therefore
forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and
of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
“The early Christian Church devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14 P=Pastor C=Congregation In the Invocation, we "invoke" God’s presence by repeating the name in which we were baptized by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the Confession, we bare our souls before the Lord, admitting our sins and accepting responsibility for the harm they caused in our relationships with God and with each other. (1 John 1:8-9; Rom. 3:23) The pastor then speaks God's Word to give the forgiveness Jesus won for us on the cross. (John 20:23)
Hear the joyful sound of our offering
As Your saints bow down, as Your people sing.
We will rise with You, lifted on Your wings, and the world will see that-
Our God saves! Our God saves! There is hope in Your name.
Mourning turns to songs of praise.
Our God saves! Our God saves!
Hear the joyful sound of our offering
As Your saints bow down, as Your people sing.
We will rise with You, lifted on Your wings, and the world will see that-
Yes, the world will see that-
Our God saves! Our God saves! There is hope in Your name.
Mourning turns to songs of praise. Our God saves! Our God saves!
Our God saves! Our God saves! Our God saves! Our God saves!

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Almighty God, grant that we who have celebrated the Lord’s resurrection
may by Your grace confess in our life and conversation that Jesus is Lord
and God; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns
with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.
THE SONG OF PRAISE “This is Amazing Grace”
THE FIRST LESSON Acts 5:29-32 29But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than
men. 30The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging
him on a tree. 31God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior,
to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32And we are
witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given
to those who obey him.”
In the Collect, the pastor and congregation greet each other as the angel greeted Mary at her annunciation. (Luke 1:28) The phrase also indicates the special relationship between the pastor and the congregation. We call this prayer a "Collect" because it collects the themes of the lessons and puts them into a prayer. The First Lesson today is taken from the New Testament, and is found on page 913 in the pew Bible.
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness?
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger?
The King of Glory, the King above all kings!
Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder?
The King of Glory, the King above all kings!
Chorus: This is amazing grace. This is unfailing love That You would take my place;
That You would bear my cross.
You'd lay down Your life that I would be set free.
Oh, Jesus, I sing for all that You've done for me!
Who brings our chaos back into order?
Who makes the orphan a son and daughter?
The King of Glory, the King of Glory!
Who rules the nations with truth and justice-
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance?
The King of Glory, the King above all kings! Chorus
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave. (Sing 3 times)
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain. Worthy, worthy, worthy. Chorus
All that You've done for me

THE EPISTLE LESSON 1 Peter 1:3-9 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According
to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4to an
inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven
for you, 5who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In this you rejoice,
though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by
various trials, 7so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more
precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be
found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus
Christ. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do
not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is
inexpressible and filled with glory, 9obtaining the outcome of your faith,
the salvation of your souls.
THE GOSPEL VERSE
THE HOLY GOSPEL John 20:19-31
19On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being
locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and
stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20When he
had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples
were glad when they saw the Lord. 21Jesus said to them again, “Peace be
with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22And
when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive
the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if
you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.” 24 Now Thomas,
one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said
to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my
finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will
never believe.” 26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and
Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came
and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said
to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your
The Epistle Lesson is generally from St. Peter’s letters. Today’s lesson is found on page 1014 in the pew Bible. The Gospel Verse may change weekly or the ordinary verse is from John 6:68. We rise for the Holy Gospel as we would stand for Jesus Himself, since the Gospel is His living Word to us. The Gospel Lesson is selected according to the season or festival Sunday of the Church Year, and is found on page 906 in the pew Bible.

hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas
answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you
believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen
and yet have believed.” 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence
of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written
so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that
by believing you may have life in his name.
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
WE CONFESS OUR FAITH-The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third
day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at
the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come
to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy
Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE SERMON HYMN “Because He Lives”
We respond to the Word of God with an acclamation of praise, and then by confessing our faith. The Apostles Creed dates from about 75 AD and was used in the instruction of those to be baptized. We are confessing our personal faith. The Sermon Hymn may coordinate with the Gospel lesson, or with the pastor’s sermon topic.
God sent His Son, they call Him “Jesus”
He came to love, heal, and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Chorus: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance,
That child can face uncertain days because He lives. Chorus

THE SERMON “Peace from Jesus” John 20:19
1. Peace leads to greater joy.
2. Peace leads to greater courage.
3. Peace leads to greater purpose.
WE RESPOND TO GOD’S TEACHING “Because He Lives”
THE OFFERING PRAYER
THE OFFERING ANTHEM “Glorious Day”
The Sermon applies God’s Word to our lives and helps to equip us to fulfill our baptismal calling to new life in Christ. After the Offering Prayer, we ask all of those present to please fill out an attendance card. You will find this on the live stream link. If you are a guest with us today, please fill out the front and back of the card. If you have any special prayer requests, you will find a space for this on the back of the card. Thank you.
And, then one day, I’ll cross the river
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain
And, then as death gives way to vict’ry
I’ll see the lights of glory, and I’ll know He lives. Chorus.
One day when Heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my example is He.
Word became flesh and the light shined among us;
His glory revealed.
Chorus: Living He loved me. Dying He saved me.
Buried He carried my sins far away.
Rising He justified, freely forever.
One day He’s coming, oh glorious day-o glorious day.
One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain.
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree.
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected,
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He.
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree,
And took the nails for me. Chorus
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer.
One day the stone rolled away from the door.
Then He arose, over death He had conquered.
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore.
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him
From rising again. Chorus

THE PRAYERS OF THE CONGREGATION
THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
P: Let us pray for the Church, for all in need, and for the whole of God’s
creation. As our world has changed in a way that we never could have
imagined we wonder what Your plan is in the midst of the anxiety,
suffering, and death that surrounds us. We cry out to You for help. We
cry out to You to end this pandemic and strengthen our world for Your
purposes.
C: We pray for world leaders. Help them to work together during this
time to fight the coronavirus and it’s effects on families, businesses,
and the global economy. Help them to contain the virus and
eradicate it.
P: Give our nation’s leaders wisdom as well. Show them the steps they need
to take to fight this virus on a national level. Help them to stay strong
and healthy. Let their hands be Your hands at work. Move through them
and lead them into making right choices for our country.
C: Lord, in this time of anxiety, fear, and isolation, we come to You for
support, encouragement, and direction. We lay our worried minds
and troubled souls before You and in Your care. We pray for those
who have lost jobs, for those who have lost businesses or are
struggling to keep their companies going, that You would give them
hope and meet their needs.
P: We ask for Your Spirit to be close to those who are afflicted and those
who have lost loved ones due to the coronavirus. We ask for that same
Spirit to be with them and us in uncertain times.
C: Great Physician, may Your hand be upon every doctor, nurse, and
health care worker as they care for the sick. Lift up and care for
these men and women risking and sometimes sacrificing their very
lives for the public good. Guard and defend them against every
harm.
P: We pray for all who are struggling in this quarantine; for all who are
depressed, lonely, and afraid; for parents who are exhausted and children
who are restless. Give us all strength, creativity, and inspiration.
Prayer is one of the marks of the congregation gathered in worship, according to Acts 2:42. Here the congregation, established and gathered by God according to His purpose, agrees together on earth that it may be done for them by the Father in heaven, as prayers, supplications, and thanksgivings are offered for all in authority and all sorts of human need. More prayer requests are found in the Announcement Guide. Please use them for your prayer time this week.
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming.
One day the skies with His glories will shine.
Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing
My Savior, Jesus, is mine. Chorus
9
C: Help us to model Christ, who often retreated to quiet spaces to seek
solace and intercede on behalf of others. Give us insight into ways we
can celebrate community from a distance. Give us purpose and show
us how to use this time to honor You.
P: Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in
Your mercy, through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
C: Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
C: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
THE BENEDICTION
P: The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you.
The Lord look upon you with His favor and give you His peace.
C: Amen.
THE SILENT PRAYER
Grant, O Lord, that the lips which have sung Your praise today may glorify
You in the world, that the ears which have heard the voice of Your songs
may be closed to the voice of clamor and dispute, that the eyes which have
seen Your great love may also behold Your blessed hope, that the tongues
which have confessed Your name may ever speak the truth, and that the
bodies of all who have worshipped may be restored to newness of life;
through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and
the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
THE MATTERS OF IMPORTANCE
The Lord's Prayer is the prayer Jesus taught to His disciples and to us in His Word. (Matthew 6:9-13 & Luke 11:2-4) Then follows the Aaronic Benediction in which the Lord recognizes us as His people, putting His name on us, and fulfilling all promises in His name. (Numbers 6:24-25; Matt. 18:19-20)
