From the Pastor’s DeskDear Sisters and Brothers,

This past Sunday we finished our Committed to Christ steward-ship series. I hope it was as meaningful to you as it was to me. The six steps to a deeper commitment to Christ and a generous life include praying, reading the Bible, attending worship regularly, giving of our financial gifts, serving others, and being a living witness of our faith in God. Remember to make your commitments and try your best to live them out. If you need a reminder card, let me know and I will send you the information.

Mark your calendars for an Advent Study to begin on Monday No-vember 30. The study of the book “Sent,” written by Jorge Acevedo, will be held on Monday mornings at 10 am at Comer and 7 pm at Col-bert. For more information, see the information to the right. I hope you will join me in this time of study and devotions as we prepare for the coming of the Christ child.

As the holiday season approaches, I am reminded of all the things I am thankful for:

I am thankful for a loving church community that showered me with cards and gifts for Pastor

Appreciation month. You all are so generous and supportive and I appreciate it so much.

I am thankful for each and every one of you and your faith jour-neys.

I am thankful for the way this church serves the hungry in this community through the Food Bank, the Soup Kitchen, and intheMID-DLEmeals.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)

Our youth have been diligent servants this fall. They’ve helped with VBS and the church yard sale, and they washed cars. Next week on Nov. 7th, they’re rolling up their sleeves again for a Day of Service. We will start with lawn mowing and yard cleanup around the church, then go to houses on our list for some fall leaf raking and stick and limb pickup. If you need some yard cleaning, please let either me or Pastor Kathy know. In appreciation for their hard work, we are planning some FUN EVENTS over the next several months. But we need volunteers to make this happen! Show some love to our youth as they have shown to our church by being a volunteer at one of their outings or events, including a lock-in, ice skating, Winter Jam concert and trip to Athens Regional Hospital to visit with children in the pediatric rehab unit. If you are reading this and feel God has put this wonderful ministry on your heart, please let me know. We would love to have men, women, young and old to chaperone these events. You will be rewarded beyond measure. In His service, Tracy

Peanuts have arrived and the amazing price is still $6.00 for a three pound bag from Plains, Ga. Funds

from the sale will be used to pay everyone’s cost for the shipment of Christmas Shoe Boxes, and a donation will be made to kick off the FLC kitchen cabinet fund.

I want to thank Mitch for unloading the boxes of peanuts. Everyone was busy, but Mitch made the time, which is what a true friend will do in time of need.

We enjoyed having our guest speaker Faith Downey join us last month as she spoke about breast cancer awareness. Please join us on Monday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. for a time of wonderful fellowship. Christine Haralson will present our program of World Love Offering, and Crystal Holcomb will be our hostess. We will be planning the Advent Market, hanging of the greens, and our fruitbasket outreach ministry for the holidays. All women 18 and older are invited to join us in this special circle of friends!

The October Supper Club enjoyed great fun, laughter and fellowship with nine at our table at the Berryman House in Bowman, Ga. We’ll get together on Friday, November 20th with our destination TBD. We always have a ball! Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you then!

Soup KitchenI am so thankful for the diligent group of volunteers who served the meal at “Our Daily Bread” on October 22nd. Thank you to

Dave English, Wanda Coley, Cleo Ward, Greg Palmer, Bill and Shirley McClure, Joni Anderson and Mike Rhodes. They served 188 plates of green beans, sweet potatoes, ham/sausage, bread, and fruit. Each volunteer looks forward to serving. If you wish to be involved, contact Brenda Abdel-Hafez.

Brookshire ClassCelebrate the beauty of God’s creation!

We are very glad to hear that all of our health concerns for last month are much better. We praise God for improvement in the health of Pat Howell, Linda Welborn, Dave English, Lois Larson, Mike Holcomb, Rachel Drake, Bill Brockman. We continue to pray for those that will continue or begin new treatments soon.

We rejoice in the good news that Kyle and Sasha Daniel are expecting a baby. We rejoice in celebrating our pastor, Rev. Kathy Brockman, as she leads, loves and cares about us person-ally and about her ministry here at Colbert and Comer.

Our class supports the van fund and KFC, as well as donations to the FLC debt fund in memo-ry of loved ones. We gave a special love offering to someone in need this past month.

We look forward to family time during the Thanksgiving season and pray for those who may not be with family for various reasons. We pray that God will warm their hearts and bring comfort to them during these holidays.

We invite you to be a part of our Sunday School Class. We love new faces and new ideas. God bless you all. Best Sermons:

Today, when I witnessed a 27-year-old breast cancer patient laughing hysterically at her 2-year-old daughter’s antics, I suddenly realized that I need to stop complaining about my life and start celebrat-ing it again.

Today, a boy in a wheelchair saw me desperately struggling on crutches with my broken leg and of-fered to carry my backpack and books for me. He helped me all the way across campus to my class and as he was leaving he said, “I hope you feel better soon.” —Brenda Abdel-Hafez

Hampton ClassSince our class membership is down due to illness, we have decided to open our class up for six new members. We hope that none of those wanting to join us will need background checks. Now for a report on the Hampton Class. I had a visit with Joe and Ann Gill. Joe was doing well. Ra-chel is getting ready to rejoin the class. Melvin has good days and bad days. Jack still has some pain but is working through it. Jim was sick but is better now. We are thankful for all the prayers sent our way. We made a trip to the Golden Corral in Winder. The food and fellowship was outstanding. Now for some church humor:

Our particular four-year-old prayed, “And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.”

A little boy was overheard praying: “Lord, if you can’t make me a better boy, don’t worry about it I’m having a real good time like I am.”

Until next month, Bennie Tuggle

We have been studying the Book of Acts and the birth of the Christian church. Do you know:

• Who was the first martyr of the new church? Where was the first church to use the name Christian? • Who was the first missionary of the new church? • Who was the first gentile to become a believ-er in Christ, was baptized and annointed with the Holy Spirit?

The answers can be found in the Book of Acts which we will be studying for four more weeks. Come join us.

Dear Church Family,We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all who were there for us at the death of our loved one Imogene Smith (mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many). We could not have gotten through this difficult time without you. The flowers, food, phone calls, cards and most of all your prayers mean the world to us. Imogene loved the people of this church like her own family. May God bless each of you.

Love in Christ,Harold, Linda & Debra GauldingNeal, Donna, Bailee & Logan Jordan

Dear Church Family,I would like to thank all of you for your prayers, cards, visits and calls. If I have forgotten any-thing, please excuse me. Just wanted you all to know I thank you very much.

Rachel Drake

Bless their hearts! We had a good turnout for Blessing of the Animals in October, even though it was raining. Each blessed pet received a St. Francis of Assissi collar charm and a treat.

I would like to thank everyone for thinking of me during my surgery, earlier this year, and my continuing recovery. All the prayers, cards, gifts, phone calls and visits were very much appreci-ated. Thank you for your continued prayers. God bless you. Julia Turner

Dear Friends of Colbert UMC,Thank you for your continued prayers and sup-port during my illness. I will always have friends at my church away from home. Lois Larson (Dawson, MN)

Dear Church Family,Thanks to everyone who supported me in prayer and with cards, notes and letters in my Walk to Emmaus at the end of October. You have no idea what that means to me. It was an incred-ibly transformational experience that will allow me to be a better servant of God. In His humble service, Tracy
