The Board of Spearman Clubs met recently to review several policies related to operating our clubs. All Board members were present except John Woods who voted by phone. The Board decided to establish a new membership type to be named a “SOCIAL MEMBERSHIP.” This membership will allow people to use the lounge, and Bar and Grill, but they cannot use the pool, gym, or tennis courts, except as a guest of a member that will require a guest fee. The social membership will start on April 1, 2015. We will move all members on a medical membership to a social membership once the social membership is in place. We are confident that this membership will work better for someone unable to go “full speed” to use the active part of the club, but would like to remain a part of the club until they can return to normal activity.

This membership will also allow some people to join our clubs, who only want to participate in club activities such as playing bridge or being part of our book club, using the grill, taking advantage of our family dinners, or using our bar to socialize. We have also reviewed our dress code. We will publish a new dress code that will be enforced beginning April 1st. We operate an upscale private club and we want all of our members to be proud of your club. We cannot have a few people wearing clothes that are not consistent with “GOOD TASTE” and make our nice private club look like a public court. Thus we have published a few guidelines that we hope everyone will agree are REASONABLE and consistent with dress in our private club. The new dress code is in most part “SIMPLY COMMON SENSE’ and we hope all of you will help us maintain this reasonable dress code. We are also making a MAJOR change in the policies pertaining to the Child Care. Now that almost everyone has a cell phone, we will start to allow members to leave their children in Child Care and leave theClub. Previously, we required the parent to be on the grounds so we could locate them if their child required help. Now we can reach the parent by cell phone thus we will change this policy. There will be a small charge for this service when the parent leaves the club grounds. This will also help membership, as it is often expensive and hard to locate a sitter during the day. Tell your friends about this new program that will start April 1st. This new policy will be a MAJOR benefit to many young parents. As always, we have considered these policy changes very carefully. We feel that all policies are fair and a benefit to our members. However, if any of you have an opinion on the new policies that you would like to express---feel free to call or email me. I am always open to talk to any member on any policy that I approve to be enforced. Cecil Spearman [email protected] 949 496 2070

A Note from Cecil Spearman

I hope 2015 is going to be the best ever for all the members of our clubs. You have some time to think about what you are going to do with your summer plans and I hope you will look at all the activities at the club when making your choices. The Summer camp will be in full swing this summer with a lot of new staff and new ideas. We will be starting on June 22 thru Aug 20. The summer is a time for lots of activities, so make sure you and your kids are making

plans to participate. The Singles Champions/Finalists were as follows: 5.0 Dan Mahoney/Mike McCall; 4.5 Jeff Trevera/Doug Frazier; 4.0 Scott Sargent/Daryl Cohen; 3.5 Saul Batista/

Sam Anser; 4.0 Women Wendy Early/Kim Auer; 3.5 Stacy Ison/Nancy Le. It was a warm weekend and all the players showed some great singles skills. We have the Calcutta coming up in April and it should be one of the best ever. We have a pro line this year and players can bid on their favorite pros for extra fun and the opportunity to win more money. This year, the bidding party is on Thurs, April 9, so you will have time to practice. I hope you will enjoy the event and make plans to come cheer everyone on. Lastly, most have heard that yes, I am a grandpa!! My daughter Katie gave birth to Ava on March 26 and they brought her home this week. A great joy to the Spearmans and yes, another girl !!! Looking forward to a great sum-mer!! Mark

Essential Elements forEvery Exercise Program:

1. Stretching for Flexibility Proper stretching involves holding the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds while deeply breathing into the move-ment finding relaxation. Stretching should include

all major muscle groups. Proper form and bone alignment is highly important so as not to injure muscle attachments and promote the proper range of motion. For greatest results, stretching ex-ercises should be repeated as the body begins to heat up, eventually adding more difficulty to each stretch each time it’s repeated. Yoga, ballet, and tai chi are fine example.2. Strength Conditioning Strength training should include exercises for major muscle groups includ-ing: arms, chest, back, stomach, hips and legs. Strength training can be accomplished through body leveraging, such as yoga and dance, or with comfortable weights. Gradually add more repeti-tions to the movements. When working with weights start with eight repetitions and work to 12 rep-etitions. Then add more sets of 12. When this becomes easy add more weight. It’s always good to work with a trainer on breaking up the rou-tine with increased repetitions and/or increased weight.3. Aerobic Exercise Aerobic exercise can be as sim-ple as walking, or more vigorous with dancing, cycling or jumping rope. It is an activity that uses large muscle groups in a continuous sus-tained manner. An important aspect of aerobic exercise is the intensity. Exercise at a com-fortable pace. Measure your exercise heart rate to check the intensity. Take your pulse when you stop exercising. Count your heartbeat for 10 seconds and multiply by six to convert it to a one-minute heart rate. Keep your heart rate within a 55 – 90% range of the estimated maximum heart rate of 220 minus your age. Aerobically exercise three to five days a week for 30 minutes a time,4. Having FUN!! Exercise should be fun or you won’t stay motivated. It doesn’t have to be monotonous. Find an exercise you enjoy: yoga, dance, tennis, or swimming. Shake up the routines. Your muscles need a change of pace to continue to benefit from the exercise.
