My guidebook

Module 2 Review 47

Read Ana’s guidebook, then make your own page about interesting places in your country.Explain how you can get to them from your home.

Getting around

There are a lot of wonderful places to visit in the UK. These are three of my favourites.

The castle at Tintagel The little village of Tintagel is on the north coast of Cornwall, in southwest England. Its castle is one of the most famous castlesin Britain. People say that it was the home of King Arthur in thefifth century and that the ghost of his helper, Merlin the Wizard, visits the cave under the castle.

From London, you can get to Cornwall by train or by coach. I wentby coach. It takes quite a long time but it’s much cheaper thanthe train.

BrightonBrighton is a fantastic place to go for the weekend. It’son the south coast, not far from London. I love lookinground the shops and there are a lot of good cafés andrestaurants. If you like old buildings, you can visit thebeautiful Royal Pavilion. I like walking along the seafront and going on Brighton pier.

It’s easy to get to Brighton from London. You can getthe train from Victoria Station or London Bridge Station. It only takes an hour.

Park

Speakers’Corner

Hyde ParkHyde Park covers 140 hectares and is London’s biggest park. It’s a popular place for riding and running. People playrugby, football and Frisbee there too. You can go on a boaton the Serpentine, or go swimming at the Lido, or you canjust sit in a deckchair and chat to your friends. I particularlylike Speakers’ Corner – where people stand up and talkabout all sorts of different subjects.

I usually get the bus when I go toHyde Park. If you live in the citycentre, you can get a ‘travel card’, or you can buy tickets at anewsagent’s, or you can get themfrom the machine at the bus stop.

d Are these sentences true or false? Correct the false sentences.

1 Jay wants to visit Windsor Castle.2 Ana doesn’t agree with Jay’s suggestion.3 Lizzie doesn’t want to go shopping.4 Martin makes two suggestions.5 Jay wants to go on the London Eye.6 Ana suggests a trip on the Thames.7 They decide to go on a boat trip.8 Lizzie agrees, but she really wants to go shopping.9 Lizzie hasn’t got any other suggestions.

3 Key grammar Suggestions
