Yarra Bend Rotary has much to be proud of and this week’s bulletin in both words and pictures reconfirms this by highlighting another successful Boroondara Emergency Services Awards event.

Delivered by the Yarra Bend BESA organizing committee members of Bob Lambert, Matt Pollard, Clint Sceney and David Shave our thanks to the team on behalf of all attendees is given.

Our thanks is also extended to the plethora of distinguished guests ranging from politicians, councillors, district Rotarian representatives, leaders from all the emergency services and our key note speaker Craig Lapsley, Emergency Services Commisioner Victoria.

The awards pull together a number of important aspects that characterize Yarra Bend Rotary; community focused, a service above self ethos, supporting those that support the community by giving thanks and of course throwing a meaningful yet fun party to celebrate fellowship and all that is good about humanity.

As a significant financial commitment to our club, planning will soon commence to consider if and how BESA will run in 2016. What we know for sure is that we have an event that is received well by all attendees, we just more sponsors and more attendees to make it bigger and better!

Congratulations to all 4 nominees and our trophy winner Darren Davies from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.

Looking forward, the year is coming to a rapid close, we continue to enjoy more fellowship with our annual Oaks Eve event this week, please ensure you check details within this bulletin for the venue and time.

I look forward to seeing you Wednesday and trust you back a winner on Tuesday!

  • BESA AWARDSYarra Bend Rotary’s signature annual event – the Boroondara Emergency Service Awards (BESA) were declared an outstanding success by members, participants and agency representatives who attended the glittering awards night at the Hawthorn Arts Centre on Wednesday evening.

The Awards are designed to recognise members of the police and emergency service agencies in the city of Boroondara who exceed the normal demands of

their employment and deliver ‘Service above self’ to the benefit of the local community. They are judged by a panel comprising senior officers of the agencies, and a committee of the Yarra Bend Rotary Club.

The four agencies for the awards are Victoria Police, Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Ambulance Victoria, and the State Emergency Service.

It was the second annual BESA event organised by Yarra Bend

Rotary. President, Justin Wibrow acknowledged the Awards would not have been possible without the support of the sponsors - Bendigo Bank and Folie a Deux. He also paid tribute to the Organising Committee – Matt Pollard, Clinton Sceney, David Shave and Bob Lambert.

Bob said we enjoy the opportunity to work with the Emergency Service Organisations in recognising significant achievements of the Emergency
