Hello everyone! Warm-er weather and flow-er blossoms are upon us, and I am thankful for the spring season. It reminds me that all things can be made new. God has given us such a beautiful world to enjoy. The Psalmist,

David, expressed this so eloquently.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.(Psalms 19:1)

We have several special days to celebrate during the month of May. National Nurses Day is Thursday, May 6th. I am so grateful for our nursing staff and all that they do to take care of each of you. They work hard to keep you all safe and well and have worked

especially hard to do that over the past year. Will you please be sure to let our nurses know that you are thankful for all they do on this very special national holiday? On the same day, we celebrate the National Day of Prayer, so add our nurses to your prayer list that day!

Mother’s Day falls on May 9th this year, so be sure to celebrate the special mothers in your life. To our residents who are mothers, Happy Mother’s Day to you! Being a mom is so special, and it is a role you will keep forever.

May also has a couple of holidays honoring men, women, and their families who have served in our armed forces. May 15th is Armed Forces Day, and May 31st is Memo-rial Day. I am incredibly thankful for the sac-rifices members of our armed forces make

daily. To those of you who have served and to those of you who are spouses to those who have served, thank you! I am grateful for your service to, and sacrifice for, our country.

As we go about our days during one of the most beautiful months of the year, and look to more “normal” days ahead, let us re-member the encouraging words in Hebrews

10:23: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”

I am praying for you all, and I am here if there is anything you need.

Resident of the Month

Linda Gibson was born and raised in Nash-ua New Hampshire in 1948, joined later by her brothers.

She was raised in a household where mu-sic of the time was fre-quently played (which is the reason she can

recite the lyrics of many of the songs played by Mark at our weekly concerts). Her love affair with music continued through high school with clarinet lessons and her majorette performanc-es, including the fire baton, at football games and in parades.

After becoming a Merit Scholarship semi-final-ist, she decided to pursue the study of math-ematics with a view toward teaching, while at the University of New Hampshire. After re-ceiving her Bachelor of Science degree in math, she soon discovered that her love of math was stronger than her desire to be a disciplinarian and moved on to achieve a master’s in accoun-tancy at Bentley College, now Bentley Univer-sity, in Massachusetts.

From a young age she was taught by her moth-er and aunts to love knitting. Like reading, it was one of those things she learned in front of the ever-present television. Her knitting led to blue ribbons and best in show awards at the Frye-burg, Marine Fair over the years. After a relatively short courtship, she married

Peter in 1970. They met after Peter graduated from University of New Hampshire and while she was on a date with his former roommate. Both Peter and Linda worked in Massachusetts for over 30 years and then moved to the Mt. Washington Valley of New Hampshire when they retired in 2000.

After being part-time residents of Vero Beach since 2000, they moved here full time in 2012 when Linda entered the BioGen Alzheimer’s clinical trial. They moved to Renaissance in Jan-uary 2019 for the senior living experience.

BioGen has applied for approval of the drug used in Linda’s clinical trial and Linda was con-tacted to supply the U.S. Food and Drug Ad-ministration with her experiences in and after the trial. This is one of the few drugs that has shown promise in the trials and her doctors be-lieve it has slowed the disease.

We are so glad Linda is a part of our Renais-sance family!

Monthly Puzzles Team Member Spotlight Kathiana Germain

My name is Kathiana Germain. I am 27 years old I’m the second child of my mom we are very close. I came to the USA when I was 14 from Haiti to finish my education also to have a better life.

I attended high school in Tampa, Florida. After high school, I went into the medical

field because, since I was little, I always said I would be a nurse or doctor one day. I just love taking care of people and saving lives.

I am so proud right now to work for Re-naissance Senior Living! I love my job and I love taking care of the residents – they are like family to me.

I am planning on furthering my education to become a nurse.
