I hope, like me, that you were able to spend some time over the Christmas break connecting with family and friends. There is a lovely buzz in the air, with both teachers and students excited about the year to come. As a College we have some important goals for the year, and a major focus will be the construction of the Performing Arts and Library Precinct. We will also become part of education history in Qld this year with the implementation of the new QCE system of Senior Certification. We are as ready as we will ever be – after much debate, discussion and preparation last year – so it will be one step at a time with the rest of the state as our Year 11 girls embark on this system of external examinations. From a pastoral and student wellbeing perspective – this year we see Mr Triffett step into the role of Director of Students as he joins the College Leadership Team and we welcome Mrs Wood to the role of Head of Year 7. This new role will support our girls to transition more smoothly from primary to secondary. We will also launch some new initiatives to help our Year 7 and 8 girls with building confidence and mindfulness with the introduction of the #Healthy Fearless Women Project in Years 7 and 8. We welcome Ms Costopoulos to the role of Dean of Mission as she works with all of us in our school community to be a living example of social harmony and justice through the values of the Gospel. Consultation will also take place this year with you, our parents/guardians, as we seek your views to develop a new Strategic Plan which will see the school continue to thrive from 2020-2025. Other exciting events for us this year will be hosting the Combined Schools Musical, The Addams Family and we are thrilled to announce that the College Visual Arts Department has been selected to enter a sculptural artwork in this year’s prestigious Strand Ephemera. There will be many wonderful opportunities for our girls this year. I look forward to working with you and our staff as we nurture our girls to believe in themselves and to make this world a better place. Finally, I may have been taken out of context when the Back to School news story on WIN Television on Wednesday night became a story about uniforms. I just want to emphasise that wearing the correct uniform is absolutely an expectation at the College. Rainy conditions have meant we have been a little more relaxed than usual, but can I ask that uniform expectations are respected and that hair is tied up, nail polish is for weekends and there is no make-up at school. All girls should have a hat when in the sun. Blessings, Paulina

NEWS UPDATE TERM 1 WEEK 1 2019

“There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” AA Milne

Welcome to the start of another exciting year at St Patrick’s College Townsville, albeit an usually wet

start. I hope, like me, that you were able to spend some time over the Christmas break connecting with

family and friends. The new year heralds the chance for a fresh start and our girls have the opportunity to

write a new chapter to their story. Like any good narrative, they will encounter interesting characters,

challenges and crises, but there will also be happy endings, lessons learned and fantastic adventures along

the way. What I have asked of our girls is that they be kind to one another, to look out for each other

and build each other up.

There is a lovely buzz in the air, with both teachers and students excited about the year to come. As a

College we have some important goals for the year, and a major focus will be the construction of the

Performing Arts and Library Precinct. We will also become part of education history in Qld this year with

the implementation of the new QCE system of Senior Certification. We are as ready as we will ever be –

after much debate, discussion and preparation last year – so it will be one step at a time with the rest of

the state as our Year 11 girls embark on this system of external examinations.

From a pastoral and student wellbeing perspective – this year we see Mr Triffett step into the role of

Director of Students as he joins the College Leadership Team and we welcome Mrs Wood to the role of

Head of Year 7. This new role will support our girls to transition more smoothly from primary to

secondary. We will also launch some new initiatives to help our Year 7 and 8 girls with building

confidence and mindfulness with the introduction of the #Healthy Fearless Women Project in Years 7 and

8. We welcome Ms Costopoulos to the role of Dean of Mission as she works with all of us in our school

community to be a living example of social harmony and justice through the values of the Gospel.

Consultation will also take place this year with you, our parents/guardians, as we seek your views to

develop a new Strategic Plan which will see the school continue to thrive from 2020-2025.

Other exciting events for us this year will be hosting the Combined Schools Musical, The Addams Family

and we are thrilled to announce that the College Visual Arts Department has been selected to enter a

sculptural artwork in this year’s prestigious Strand Ephemera.

There will be many wonderful opportunities for our girls this year. I look forward to working with you

and our staff as we nurture our girls to believe in themselves and to make this world a better place.

Finally, I may have been taken out of context when the Back to School news story on WIN Television on

Wednesday night became a story about uniforms. I just want to emphasise that wearing the correct

uniform is absolutely an expectation at the College. Rainy conditions have meant we have been a little

more relaxed than usual, but can I ask that uniform expectations are respected and that hair is tied up, nail

polish is for weekends and there is no make-up at school. All girls should have a hat when in the sun.

Blessings, Paulina
