Fifth graders investigated changes in matter with slime experiments!

Dear parents of sixth-grade CCA students,

There’s still time to sign up your child for the sixth-grade field trip to the North Carolina Outer Banks. The field trip is on May 9-10, 2019 and will be supervised by CCA teachers and parent volunteers. Students will spend the night at the North Carolina Aquarium in Manteo, NC, and will participate in the overnight educational program organized by the aquarium’s special events team. More information about the NC Aquarium sleepover program is available at https://reservations.ncaquariums.com/roanokeisland/Info.aspx?EventID=17.

During the day on Thursday and Friday, students will visit an interactive history museum called Festival Park where they will tour a recreated Native American village, a recreated English settlement from the 1500s, and a full-scale replica of a sailing ship from the 1500s. More information about Festival Park is available at https://www.roanokeisland.com/. Students will also visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial where the first airplane was successfully tested (https://www.nps.gov/wrbr/index.htm), and tour the unusual and fascinating ecosystem at Jockey’s Ridge State Park, which has the largest sand dunes on the Atlantic coast. Students will also take a dolphin tour to see dolphins feeding and playing in the waters around Roanoke Island (more information available at http://outerbankscruises.com/), and have a picnic on the beach in Nags Head, NC.

The cost of the trip will be no more than $275 per student. As we get closer to the date of the trip, we can be more precise about the cost. Parents will only pay for the costs associated with the trip. The cost to participate as an adult chaperone is $150. Parents who are paying for two sixth-grade students pay $150 for the second child. You can sign up your child for this fun and educational opportunity by going to this site https://give.classy.org/CCAPTC2019ft6thOuterBanks and paying a deposit of $79.50. The site will be open to receive deposits until February 15. The balance payment of no more than $195 will be due April 19.

Sincerely,

CCA’s Sixth Grade Team
