Morningside Elem. STEM School Friday, January 20, 2017 Number 6
I just wanted to remind everyone
about the rules of recess for winter
weather. We will be sending the students
out as much as we possibly can, but the
stipulation is that the “feel” outside needs
to be above 15 degrees.
We have had some students who have been coming
without coats or mittens since the weather is not sub-zero
now, and we just want to remind everyone that we will be
going out when the temperature feels like it is above 15
degrees. Thank you for helping us to keep our little ones
warm!

Miss Larson’s First Grade
Miss Larson’s first graders are learning about opinions.
So I asked, do you wish we had snow or do you wish
that we don’t get snow? Here are their answers!
Cameron wishes that we had snow because he wants
to have a snowball fight.
Nolan wants to have a snowball fight, so he definitely
wants some snow.
Peyton wants to build a snowman, but needs some
snow to do that!
Brian P. wants there to be some snow because he
wants to go sledding.
Zoe likes playing in the snow, but hasn’t been able to
do so this year.
Adriana said she doesn’t like the snow because it is
too cold!
Reed also thinks that it is too cold when it snows.
Bailey doesn’t like when the snow gets everything wet
so she wants it to stay away!
Kenny doesn’t like to get his hands cold without his
mittens so the snow can stay away from him.
Tristian wants there to be snow to play in!
Kayln wants it to snow because she wants to make
snow angels.
Keegan doesn’t like the snow be-
cause it is too cold for him to go
fishing.
Lainey really wants some snow be-
cause she wants to build a snow
igloo.
Bryan wants some so because he wants to have a
snowball fight.
Sophia doesn’t like snow because she has to wear a
hat outside and she can’t go swimming. She is excit-
ed for warm weather.
Colin loves to play sports, but can’t
play when there is snow out so he
wants it go stay away.
Tru wants to go sledding if there
was snow here.
Joe thinks the snow to stay away so he can go hunt-
ing.
Jaselinn doesn’t want there to be snow because it is
too cold.
New Year’s Resolutions
In the month of January, our class has
been talking about making New Year’s resolutions.
We talked about the importance of making a resolu-
tion and working hard to follow those resolutions. Dur-
ing the month of January, Miss Laura, who is our Nutri-
tion expert from the Iowa State Extension service
came and talked to the students about healthy eat-
ing and making a New Year’s resolution that is a
healthy resolution. She talked about making healthy
choices with our food choices and how to start an
exercise program. Our class then created some
healthy New Year’s resolutions from Mrs. Jordan’s
class:
Titan- I will ride my bike more in the summer.
Patricio- I will drink more water,
Tristan- I will drink more water with my brand new wa-
ter bottle.
Payton- I will run around the
block.
Elise- I will eat more fruits and
vegetables.
Brayden- I will exercise more so
that I can do better in sports.
Jazlyn- I am going to drink 100% apple juice.
Santiago- I will eat more apples, bananas, broccoli
and potatoes.
Those are just some of our healthy resolutions.
We hope to continue to keep our healthy resolutions
for the entire year!
That is the latest news from Mrs. Jordan’s class

4th Grade Sioux City History Projects
In the fall, our fourth grade students studied the people, places, and events
that shaped our city. As part of their study, each student then completed an at-home
Sioux City History Project. These projects were on display in the library and makerspace
in December. During this time, Connie McFarlane (a representative from the Sioux City
Museum) came to view the projects and has selected eight to be displayed at the
museum in March. The honorees are:
Mrs. Burke Mrs. Pomerenke
Nirmai Gor (Palmer Candy) Landon Boggs (First Bride’s Grave)
Brooklyn Ocker (Stage Coach) Serenity Robertson (Bruguier’s Cabin)
Mrs. Gilreath Mrs. Keilman
Dane Milton (Livestock National Bank) Leah Conlon (1888 Corn Palace)
Katie Heeney (Palmer Candy) Kayla Burton (Veteran’s Bridge)
We had an impressive variety of original projects that showcased the learning and creativity of this 4th
grade group! Connie commented on how difficult the selection process was because of the many worthy
projects.
A “History Project Reception” will be held at the museum in March to honor these students. If you get
a chance, stop by and see all of the projects selected from around Siouxland. They will be on display begin-
ning March 18th.
