Construction Standards

Commercial Construction: Our construction technology also lends itself perfectly to commercial building applications. Innovations unique to Triple M Housing, such as belt rails on exterior walls, have proven to be advantageous to commercial developers. Exterior wall belt rails strengthen walls allowing for larger open concept designs. This innovation allows for greater design fl exibility and added useable fl oor space which is desireable in retail and offi ce applications.

Construction & Energy Effi ciency Features

ConstructionOur homes are well designed and constructed

to handle the rigors of transport.

All of our exterior wall sheathing is glued and stapled to the studs and belt rails so there is no exterior sheathing that is not supported by framing. The sheathing also laps the fl oor framing and perimeter of the roof.

The standard framing is 2x6 on 24” centers and most windows fi t between standard framing centers so there is no need for extra studs, which allows for more insulation.

Interior walls are pre-built on a jig table using dimensional lumber. As with the fl oor, all walls are built to exact specifi cations detailed on the construction drawings. Backing is also installed to ensure everything is securely fastened.

The header detail makes it possible to insulate the header, there by reducing thermal bridging.

The exterior wall header detail also allows us to move roof trusses around as necessary without adding additional wall framing.

Energy Effi ciency

With energy costs constantly rising we are always working towards making our homes as energy effi cient as possible.

Our standard window is a double glazed Low E which has excellent insulation values. We also off er an R9 window in some of our products as an option. These windows have an energy performance 300% better than our standard and in most cases could reduce energy consumption for a whole house about 30%.

The interior of the exterior wall is designed in such a way that the gyproc is glued and screwed to the belt rails while still providing a continuous vapor barrier.

All electrical boxes are wrapped with a vapor barrier and then all wires and fasteners are sealed with caulking. All penetrations in the walls and ceiling through the vapor barrier are sealed with caulking as well.

All of these unique features create a very tight structure and more energy effi cient building.

The structure of the home is designed to withstand snow loads far in excess of those in most areas of Canada.

Our truss fl oor houses are built with a built up perimeter beam that allows the installation of the home on a basement without the need for an extra beam.

Each phase of the construction program is supervised and monitored by trained quality control personnel to ensure that each home is built on time, within budget and to exact specifi cations.

All Triple M Homes not only meet but exceed the requirements of the Canadian Standards Association and the National Building Code.

The Triple M Diff erence

The technology and innovation we have developed over many years has come in large part from the necessity to ship homes and buildings over long distances and often on roads that are less than ideal. When a customer buys one of our homes or commercial buildings they want assurances it will arrive at their building lot or worksite in excellent condition. We can only do this by constructing our buildings in a manner that is far stronger and with more material than would typically be used in construction traditionally done on site. For instance, all external walls are 2 x 6” construction with belt rails dadoed into studs for extra strength and rigidity, fl oor boards are glued and screwed into joists to reduce any risk of separation that will lead to spongy or squeaky fl oors and metal strapping is used to reenforce connections between external walls and fl oor joists, again strengthening the overall construction. Of course we also perform inspections during all phases of construction, including a minimum of 3 thorough tests of the electrical and plumbing systems. All inspection and testing is carried out by trained CSA and building code inspectors whose fi rst and foremost responsibility is the health and safety of our customers.

So many of the construction practices we implement are better than most other builders and unique to our company. We were the fi rst factory home builder in North America to be ‘ISO’ Certifi ed, the fi rst factory home builder in Canada to be ‘Built Green’ Certifi ed and in 2010 became the fi rst factory home builder to become ‘Energy Star’ Certifi ed. And, we are the fi rst factory home builder to off er a ‘20 YEAR WARRANTY’ on all our new homes. That’s a lot of fi rsts and bests, and that is the Triple M Diff erence!!
