CAPITAL AREA HUMAN RESOURCE ASSOCIATION August 2019
Hello CAHRA members,
We missed seeing everyone in July but I hope everyone has had a great summer so far. I know many of you are focusing now on back to school preparations or even sending your child off to college for the first time. My focus as I write this is where did the summer go and why have I not been to the beach yet! I hope you had a chance to do something fun with family or friends. Our Board had a chance in July to meet and focus on CAHRA activities for the remainder of 2019 and we are working hard to provide value to our members by providing valuable information, professional development, and networking opportunities. Dan Baker, Legislative Chair, has a great speaker lined up for our August meeting (see bio. on page 2), and we are very excited about our annual Night Networking Event scheduled for September 24
th at Shaggy’s. You do not want to
miss this. Connie Siggers-Parker, Vice-President, has our October and November speakers lined up, and before you know it, our December 4
th holiday social will happen all in the blink of an eye.
We also had a MS SHRM council meeting in July and I am happy to share with you that they are offering SHRM chapter members a $50 off PROMO CODE for the 24th Annual MS HR Conference & Expo in Tupelo, MS, Sept.16-18. Register now if you have not yet at http://bit.ly/2019MSSHRMCONFERENCE. I will be passing out the PROMO CODE card at our meeting Wednesday or contact me directly if you need it before August 7
th.
This past Saturday we said farewell to our friend, mentor, and HR leader, Mr. Lindsay Carter, Jr. I want to personally thank Ms. Jackie Mack for her work on a Memorial Resolution which she read at his funeral and presented to his family on behalf of CAHRA and MSSHRM in which Lindsay served in leadership roles for many years. We will honor Lindsay during our August 7
th meeting and have her read a copy of the Memorial Resolution. I was happy to see so many CAHRA members present at
his funeral. Lastly, I would like to open up nominations for our 2020 CAHRA board member. The new board member must be and main-tain SHRM membership and have achieved SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP). The new board member will serve a 6 year term and will begin in the role of Treasurer. In the role of Treasurer, you will fulfill the role of financial officer, collect and distribute funds, maintain membership roster, provide financial reports, and attend chapter board meetings. If you are interested or would like to nominate a member to the board, please submit member name to our 2020 Chapter President, Ms. Melissa Robbins at [email protected]. I look forward to seeing you all next week!
