International Infection Prevention Week 2017
With the rise of defiant and aggressive microbes, Antibiotic Resistance also known as Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) came to be the theme of this year›s International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) celebrated by Mohammad Dossary Hospital (MDH) last October 15 - 21, 2017.
Mrs. Analyn D. Imperial, Senior Infection Control Practitioner, in the presence of Mr. Abdul Fettah Ennayal, CEO, inaugurated the annual celebration led by the Infection Control Department and supported by administrative and clinical staff, along with other MDH staff and patients in the Main Reception Area.
To promote understanding and awareness, Dr. Omar Abd El Dayem, Infection Control Director, gave a very informative and detailed lecture regarding AMR, which highlighted the importance of laboratory testing and appropriate antibiotic treatment.
Proper hand hygiene being the most effective method of preventing infection was promoted by the Liaisons in Infection Control, also known as LInCs, together with the Infection Control staff who roamed around the hospital during the week-long celebration to teach and encourage proper hand washing among patients and healthcare workers.
The adage «an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure» is as true today as it was when Benjamin Franklin said it. In the healthcare setting, consequently, infection prevention and control practices are important in maintaining safe environment for patients and healthcare workers. Increasing public awareness for such practices is promoted in the IIPW.
In addition, nurses in their respective wards constructed photo booths conforming to their interpretation of drug resistance. All areas created masterpieces in their own right. OR›s creation stood among the rest and garnered the first prize followed by the OB ward and the ICU for the second and third prizes respectively.
IT STARTS WITH YOUWhat do healthcare quality professionals do?• Lead continuous improvement initiatives.• Facilitate the implementation of regulatory and
accreditation requirements.• Ensure the provision of quality and safe healthcare
services.• Monitor and analyze existing and new processes of
the of the healthcare delivery system.
Quality and Patient Safety Week is designed to celebrate healthcare quality professionals and to appreciate their work and the impactful contributions they give to their hospital, their country and the world. Likewise, it also aims to fuel their continuous drive to empower healthcare professionals to pursue a path, which is focused on systems and processes, and methods of measuring, analyzing, and improving to achieve best outcomes.
Mohammad Dossary Hospital is inclined in giving its internal and external customers quality and safe healthcare services. Moreover, it strongly supports the goal of its Quality Management and Patient Safety (QM & PS) Department to imbibe this culture. In line with this, the QM & PS Department conducted its 4th Quality & Patient Safety Week with the theme, «The Culture of Quality & Safety Starts with YOU”, last October 30, 2017.
The activities solidified the commitment and the intent of Mohammad Dossary Hospital’s healthcare team in providing quality and safe care. The first activity called “Pillars of Safety” was an art making contest, which aimed to awaken the artistic side of the healthcare providers in embodying their perception and interpretation of how quality and safety is practiced for each International Patient Safety Goal (IPSG). The winners of the contest are as follows:
1st Place – IPSG 4 (OR, Anesthesia, Dental Services)2nd Place – IPSG 1 (OPD, MOI, Medical Records, Reception, Physiotherapy)3rd Place – IPSG 5 (Infection Control, Surgical Ward, Dietary and Social Services)
The second event was meant to display the wit and knowledge of our own doctors and nurses from the different units, who battled against each other, in the Quiz Bee. The following are the winners:
Champion – OR (Dr. Mustafa & Ms. Joy Yerro) 2nd Prize – Medical (Dr. Huyam, Ms. Cathylyn Aniban)
It is commendable that such efforts from all our health care team members are poured out during this celebration and even if we are struggling to maintain what is apt, our drive for excellence remains genuine. Indeed, quality and safety starts within us, within you!
SUGAR CHECK
Our Right to a healthy future
Diabetes Milletus is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood. In 2014, it is the 7th leading cause of death according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The World Diabetes Day became official after the passage of United Nation Resolution 61/ 225 in 2006. It was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization to accommodate the growing concerns of the increasing health risks posed by diabetes.
World Diabetes Day is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign that aims to:1. Be the platform to promote IDF advocacy efforts
throughout the year.2. Be the global driver to promote the importance of taking
coordinated and concerted actions to confront diabetes as a critical global health issue.
It is represented by a blue circle logo that was adopted in 2007 and became a global symbol for diabetes awareness. It signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic (http://www.worlddiabetesday.org/about-wdd.html).
Last October 14, 2017, Mohammad Dossary Hospital supported the World Diabetes Day and opened its doors
to this global celebration. The event had the following objectives:1. To encourage individuals to adhere to prevention
methods against diabetes and the right ways to live with diabetes.
2. To conduct free tests for blood sugar level, accompanied by a printed result.
3. To provide our very own dietician to explain and educate the patient about health practices for the benefit of diabetics.
4. To answer visitor inquiries and providing free consultations
In October 16, 2017, we conducted a Continuing Medical Education about Diabetes and we had four speakers to indulge our thirst for knowledge and updates, Dr. Mohammad Fahim Siddiqui, Dr. Rehab Zaher, Dr. Osama Abouelkher , Dr. Mohammed Sidiqi and Dr. Nisar Khan.
The celebration might be over but we still invite everybody to join our cause and together, fight for our Right to a Healthy Future!
THE WAY TO A MAN’SHEART ...At last the wait is over and it is entirely a whole lot of excitement and enthusiasm
that the Mohammad Dossary Hospital Cath Lab will finally take its course.
Dr. Ahmed Salaheldin and his team are so ready to open its doors to our
loyal and valued customers, advocating advance technology and moreover,
optimum health.
Heart Diseases are gaining much popularity these days, excluding no one
from young to old adults. This prevalence is alarming and health ministries
around the world are in a battle to either prevent or treat these heart diseases.
A catheterization laboratory or Cath-Lab is a unit that consists of diagnostic
imaging equipment used to visualize the arteries of the heart, the chambers of
the heart and treat whichever stenosis or irregularity is found.
November 12, 2017, MDH paved one of its milestones as they successfully
conducted their very first CORONARY ANGIOGRAPHY.
Mr. S. K., with a clinical picture of Inferior STEMI after TPA thrombolysis; and
a diagnosis of IHD, inferior STEMI, single vessel disease; underwent PCI
RCA (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention In The Right Coronary Artery).
Prior the procedure, he underwent diagnostic investigations like ECG and
ECHO. After which, the PCI went on
following the engagement of RCA
ostium with JR3.5 GC, a Xion Blue
PTCA wire steered to cross the RCA
lesion and seated at distal RCA. A
PTCA was done using 215/ Balloon
adjusted at the site of lesion and
inflated at 8 ATM. A Biomatrix 3.536/
DES was adjusted at site of lesion
and deployed at 14 ATM with proper
strut separation and final TIMI III
flow. It was a successful PCI in the
RCA, and the patient is expected to
be on a 12-month Dual Antiplatelet
Therapy and a full Anti-Ischemic
Treatment.
This success was followed by 14
more cases and it is a commendable
number as we push for outstanding,
quality and safe health services.
As promised, MDH team is your
advocate for wellness and from this
moment on, Mohammad Dossary
Hospital accepts the challenge to
cater more patients and deliver
prime health to everybody; ’coz
MDH knows the best way to a man’s
heart!
