MESSAGE FROM INSPECTOR ALAN RHEES-COOPER As most of you are aware, I joined the Queensbury Royds and Wibsey Neighbourhood Policing Team at the end of last year. I have now got to know my team and I am very impressed with their enthusiasm and determination to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in our area. We have a number of operations that we have been running recently. PC Ceri Lloyd has developed Operation Sandstorm where we work with our Road Crime Team to intercept travelling criminals coming into and out of our area. PC Paul Thomis developed Operation Sailmount and is working with the insurance companies to identify those active criminals who are using their vehicles to commit crime but have fraudulently failed to declare their previous criminal convictions to the insurance company. This can lead to their insurance being revoked and if they continue to drive, we will then seize their vehicle. Operation Scalpey aims to identify those criminals who are living beyond their legitimate financial means. Our Proceeds of Crime Act team then conduct financial checks to see if they are earning their wealth legitimately. If not their money is seized through the courts. If you know someone who is living a life style that is obviously way above their legitimate income, then tell one of my team or e-mail us and we will look into it. Operation Scarista was developed by PCSO Luke Holdsworth and was led by Sergeant Sheraz Khan and this involved taking a drugs dog into licensed premises to detect drug dealing. These are just a few of our operations that we have run recently and will continue to run throughout the next few months. I will keep you informed. Saturday 4th February COMMUNITY RESOLUTION QUEENSBURY PCSO Steph Pogson detained a 36 year old woman from Queensbury for theft, after she made off from security staff at the Co-op store in Queensbury. She was issued with a Community Resolution by PC Bowman . The woman's actions resulted in the Co-op issuing her with a life time ban from their stores. W/C 13/02/12

MESSAGE FROM INSPECTOR ALAN RHEES-COOPER

As most of you are aware, I joined the Queensbury Royds and Wibsey Neighbourhood

Policing Team at the end of last year. I have now got to know my team and I am very

impressed with their enthusiasm and determination to tackle crime and anti-social

behaviour in our area. We have a number of operations that we have been running

recently.

PC Ceri Lloyd has developed Operation Sandstorm where we work with our Road

Crime Team to intercept travelling criminals coming into and out of our area.

PC Paul Thomis developed Operation Sailmount and is working with the insurance companies to

identify those active criminals who are using their vehicles to commit crime but have fraudulently failed

to declare their previous criminal convictions to the insurance company. This can lead to their

insurance being revoked and if they continue to drive, we will then seize their vehicle.

Operation Scalpey aims to identify those criminals who are living beyond their legitimate financial

means. Our Proceeds of Crime Act team then conduct financial checks to see if they are earning their

wealth legitimately. If not their money is seized through the courts. If you know someone who is

living a life style that is obviously way above their legitimate income, then tell one of my team or

e-mail us and we will look into it.

Operation Scarista was developed by PCSO Luke Holdsworth and was led by Sergeant Sheraz Khan

and this involved taking a drugs dog into licensed premises to detect drug dealing.

These are just a few of our operations that we have run recently and will continue to run throughout the

next few months. I will keep you informed.

COMMUNITY RESOLUTION QUEENSBURY PCSO Steph Pogson detained a 36 year old woman from Queensbury for theft, after

she made off from security staff at the Co-op store in Queensbury. She was issued with a

Community Resolution by PC Bowman .

The woman's actions resulted in the Co-op issuing her with a life time ban from their stores.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED CLAYTON HEIGHTS

In Clayton Heights, PC Sumpner located a stolen vehicle worth over £20,000 after it was stolen in a

burglary about two weeks ago. False number plates had been put on to make it harder for us to find, and it

had since been used in another burglary. Thankfully the vehicle is now being assessed by our scene of

crime officers for evidence to help catch the people responsible, and then it will be returned to a very

grateful owner!

During the recent cold weather PCSO Geoff Woodrow received a telephone call from a

concerned member of the public regarding a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier that was found

cold and hiding behind a car in Woodside. The young Terrier was being protected by a very

large young Husky dog and the members of the public couldn’t get close enough to help. The

car owner managed to get into his car and in doing so the young terrier jumped into the car

followed by the Husky.

With a little persuasion, the caller managed to get both dogs out of the car and into the warmth

of his house. The little terrier had been missing from an address in Woodside where it had

escaped from on the previous night. The Husky was missing from an address in Leeds.

Both have been reunited with their grateful owners.

ATTACK NEAR BUTTERSHAW YOUTH CLUB

A 14 year old and a 16 year old boy have been attacked by a large group numbering up to 30 near Buttershaw Youth club on Reevy Road. The boys were jumped on from behind and most of those involved are from the same school BBEC and possibly known to complainants. One was assaulted with his own skateboard and has facial injuries, possibly a broken nose. PCSO Steve Atkinson who has good contacts with the school and youth club is working closely with the investigating officer to identify those responsible. Anyone who has information regarding this attack, please contact us on 01274 376668

MASKED MEN FORCE THEIR WAY INTO A HOUSE IN WIBSEY

Four masked men forced their way into a house in Wibsey pushing passed the female occupant who answered the door. The male occupant was assaulted and the intruders made a search of upstairs rooms before leaving the property empty handed. These men asked where the cannabis was, but the occupants have no connections to drugs. It appears that the intruders got the wrong address !

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR QUEENSBURY PC Dickerson has served Anti-Social Behaviour warning letters on two local youths. The letters

warn them that their behaviour in and around Tesco and the village in general is not acceptable

and must stop. That behaviour includes swearing, threatening and intimidating behaviour and

causing a public nuisance to mention a few things. If their behaviour does not improve then

further action will be taken against them which may include arrest or gathering evidence for

ASBO's. There are more letters to be served and we will keep you updated.

Please report any anti-social behaviour in the Tesco area and we will take action.

WORKING TOGETHER TO COMBAT ANTI-SOCIAL

BEHAVIOUR IN LOW MOOR

Police and housing 21 have been working together to tackle Anti-Social behav-

iour in Low Moor. PCSO Rachel Storey attended court to seek the eviction of a

tenant after the police have received numerous complaints from her neighbours about her

anti-social behaviour. The District Judge agreed a suspension of the warrant on the condition

that she paid her rent and did not breach her tenancy agreement. The warrant will become live

if any breach occurs. Inspector Rhees-Cooper has given a commitment that his officers will take

immediate action if there is a breach and his team will work tirelessly to tackle anti-social

behaviour in our local community.

ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS FOXHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL

Tesco have been working in partnership with the police to promote road safety awareness. PCSO John Greenwood secured funding for a banner that was designed by the children of Foxhill. The banner was partly paid for by Tesco and partly by money seized from criminals through the Proceeds of Crime Act. Speeding vehicles and irresponsible driving and parking, particularly around schools, is a concern for many of you.

POLICE TO ENSURE PEOPLE WITH CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS

DECLARE THEM WHEN APPLYING FOR CAR INSURANCE

It is an offence to fail to declare previous criminal convictions when applying for car insurance if asked to do so. PC Paul Thomis and PC Robert Stevens have been liaising with insurance companies to tackle the problem of false declarations on application forms. Where we have current intelligence to... suggest a person is using their vehicle to commit crime, particularly burglaries or vehicle crime, the police will request a copy of that person’s insurance application form. If that individual has made a false statement on their application form, we will prosecute. In most cases, the insurance will immediately become invalid unless an additional premium is paid. THE INTENTION IS TO MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR PEOPLE TO USE THEIR VEHICLE TO COMMIT CRIME. The officers have had their first success and they are investigating an individual with recent convictions for burglary who has failed to inform their insurance company.

DRUGS WARRANT EXECUTED IN BANKFOOT A MAN CLAIMS TO BE NO LONGER DEALING DOPE. Officers attended an address in Bankfoot and recovered a small quantity of cannabis. Also found was a large number of small bags similar to those used by drug dealers. The male occupant claimed that the bags had been there for a long time and that he no longer deals drugs. He said that the cannabis was for his own use. He received a cannabis caution. (Photograph does not imply that he is still dealing!)
