sea. They were not rich in natural resources like
the Egyptians who did not leave Egypt.
Because of this trade orientation they created
items to meet their needs. Cylinder Seals wereused to create a packing slip. Seals can beeither flat (a stamp) or round a Cylinder Seal.

Sumerians built substantial city-states, whichwere self ruled through a limited democracy.
The Sumerian society was governed by a
priestly class. Sumerian citizens were amongthe most devoutly religious anywhere in theancient world.
They were polytheistic they worshipped manygods, each city-state placed a greater emphasisone or another of the gods.

The Akkadian period began when the city-stateof Akkad came under the rule of Sargon.
Sargon wanted power and he introduced the
idea of royal power. His son and grandsonfollowed in his food steps. His grandson,Naram-Sin was the bossiest of all!
