Smashwords: How To Go to your Smashwords document in MS Word. Go through your document to find all and and italicize and bold the appropriate words. Find and delete all,, and tags. Define your styles. Normal should be: Either Courier New or Times New Roman, 12-point font, left justified, line spacing either 1 or 1.5, and with no spacing between paragraphs.

The Meatgrinder The Smashwords meatgrinder is very particular about: Paragraphs - no more than one hard return between paragraphs; they prefer none. Images - must be jpgs and in line with text. Spacing - none between paragraphs if you indent. Line spacing must be either 1 or 1.5. Put the word chapter at the beginning of each chapter so that their software recognizes the chapter break. You must include in your copyright that it is a Smashwords document. No tabs, section breaks, text boxes, headers, footers, extraneous symbols ( or TM ), or page numbers.

Cover Art Make sure you can read it in the thumbnail version. Make it simple. Make sure you have the rights to whatever pictures you put there. Double-check how many other books there are of the same title.

Cover Art Example Title is large and easily read in thumbnail size. Picture takes up more than 50% of the space. Authors name is a good size, but not dominant.
