Congratulations to 4A and 2C for receiving the Ralph and Rosie Awards this week. 4A received their award for being a polite and well-mannered class. 2C received their award for organising themselves through respectful lining up after break times. Well done to all the boys and girls for being Safe, Respectful Learners. Parents you may be interested to know that FABIC has a workshop coming up.

P&C NEWS

Disco Thank Yous A big thank you to our Parent IEC team, students and our teaching and support staff for another fabulous Disco last week. Lots of time and effort goes in behind the scenes to create these events, and we greatly appreciate you putting this together. I’m sure we all agree events like discos create an excellent opportunity for our children to socialise in a less formal setting within the safe surrounds of our wonderful school.

P&C AGM Our P&C AGM is now scheduled for Monday 30 May. At this meeting all committee positions will become vacant and a new committee will be elected for the following positions: • President • Vice President • Minutes Secretary • Correspondence Secretary • Treasurer Also we need to elect a Fundraising Coordinator and fill positions on several P&C sub committees. Interested parents are invited to come along and be part of our P&C. Becoming involved in the Parents and Citizens Association enables you to ‘have a say’ about your child’s education. You learn a great deal about the environment your child spends so much time in and how Education Queensland operates. You meet new friends, learn to work as a team and most importantly you become a community member and feel a part of our school. Our P&C do a great job for our school. Please come along and support your child’s school. The AGM meeting will commence at 6.30pm in the school staffroom and all interested parents are invited to attend. A general meeting will follow the AGM. Entertainment Books The P&C is again running an Entertainment Book fundraiser. These entertainment books are always very popular and we encourage parents to support this P&C fundraising activity. Type into your address bar www.entbook.com.au/144d320

FROM THE MASTER TEACHER

2C and 2D have been learning about the History of Merrimac and our beautiful school. On Friday morning the children were delighted to welcome Dr Pointing into their classroom to hear all about how school life at Merrimac has changed since 1917 when Merrimac first opened. He brought along pictures and documents to show the students a typical school day at Merrimac. The students were excited to hear in 1917 a school day consisted of English, Arithmetic, gardening and cane weaving. When hearing that some students came to school on horseback their simple car drop off seemed very boring.

Page 5: Merrimac State School Newsletter€¦ · Foot Steps Dance Workshops Merrimac has again invited The Foot Steps Dance Company to run a series of dance workshops with all year levels

Dr Pointing also shared his experiences when he was in primary school and the students were very envious to hear that wearing a school uniform including shoes was not compulsory! Tapio and Chloe presented Dr Pointing with a certificate thanking him for his informative and enjoyable presentation. Thank you for sharing your invaluable knowledge with our students Dr Pointing.'
