Mercury is named after a god in Roman mythology. His greek name is Hermes. He was a messenger with winged sandals.

Mercury is covered in craters and is very similar to Earth's moon. The temperature is anywhere from 842F to -274F. That's a 1116F difference. It has a spherical shape.
Mercury and the Sun
Mercury is only 0.39 AU away from the sun. Because it is so close, it has no atmosphere. It is the first planet away from the sun.
