In the year of soccers 2014 World Cup were well positioned

    for top results.

Our Mercedes-Benz 2020 strategy is paying off. The brand with the

star was the fastest-growing premium brand in 2013 selling more than

1.5 million cars more than ever before. And we will continue to build

on our momentum in 2014 by introducing eight new car models.

    with top players.

The new S-Class is the best-selling luxury sedan in the world.

Both customers and the automotive press agree that this vehicle

is not only an S-Class by name, but its 100 percent S-Class!

An attractive S-Class coup will follow this year.

Yet 2014 is first and foremost the year of the C-Class. Our highest

volume model series will - for the first time ever - be produced on fourcontinents: in Bremen/Germany, Beijing/China, Tuscaloosa/USA,

    and in East London/South Africa.

    for new fans.

Were also playing offense in the compact car class. Our GLA

targets younger customers in the growth segment of compact SUVs.

Were also strengthening our game even more at smart with the

rollout of the new fortwo and forfour. Best of all, our product offensive

is nowhere near finished in 2014!

    Sincerely,

    Dieter Zetsche

world and has production facilities on five continents. Its current brand

portfolio includes, in addition to the worlds most valuable premium

    The Brands.

Mercedes-Benz Cars. The Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy is proving successful.Mercedes-Benz set a new sales record for the third consecutive year

in 2013, when more than 1.46 million Mercedes-Benz brand

vehicles(+10.7 percent) were delivered to customers. Production

volume also increased from the prior year, to 1.49 million.

Mercedes-Benz launched the new E-Classand the compact CLA

four-door coup in April 2013. The CLA thus joins the A- and B-Class

as the third member of the compact car family. More than 370,000customers opted to purchase a compact model from the brand with

the star in 2013 an increase of 64 percent from the prior year. The

A- and CLA-Class in particular are attracting new customer groups to

the brand; half of all customers who purchased a vehicle from the two

model series previously drove a car from another manufacturer. The

S-Class once again became the worlds best-selling luxury sedan just

a few weeks after the model changeover in the summer of 2013. The

flagship model of the Mercedes-Benz brand has thus maintained its

leadership in the luxury sedan segment throughout its entire nine-year

lifecycle. Thanks to Mercedes-Benz successful model offensivethe

brand has entered 2014 with its youngest model range since 2009.

Last year was a very important one for Mercedes-Benz passenger car

business in China. The brand has achieved sustained growth in the

country since the new Beijing Mercedes-Benz Sales Service Co.Ltd.(BMBS) sales companybegan operating in March 2013. The

launch of the A-Class in the spring of 2013 and the premiere of the

long-wheelbase E-Class and the new S-Class in the fall have brought

three important model series to China. The Chinese market now

accounts for more than half of all S-Class sales worldwide. This makes

China the worlds biggest market for the S-Class, which has been

tailored to the requirements of Chinese customers. China is also now

one of the worlds biggest markets for the E-Class. In view of these

developments, Mercedes-Benz is significantly expanding its dealer-

ship network in China. A total of 75 new outlets opened in China in

2013, including 36 in cities where the brand had previously not been

    available.

Mercedes-Benz believes it has everything in place to ensure another

record year in 2014. Customers can look forward to a whole series offascinating new product highlights. The year began with the world

premiere of the all-new C-Class.It is the first Mercedes-Benz model

built in line with the slogan Four Continents. One Passion. The

slogan refers to the models production in Germany, the USA, South

Africa, and China. The new C-Class features include many new

assistance systems from the S- and E-Class. In line with the

Mercedes-Benz brand claim The best or nothing, the model sets

new standards in the premium mid-range segment. The market

launch of the compact GLA,which celebrated its world premiere at

the IAA 2013 auto show, further extends the new compact model

family. These vehicles have enjoyed widespread recognition and great

success among young target groups in particular. With its launch of

the new S-Class coupin mid-2014, Mercedes-Benz will continue the

long and successful tradition of large coups and once again set the

standard for modern luxury at the top of the model range.

Mercedes-Benz supplemented its global product offensive in the summerof 2013 with the launch of its Mercedes-Benz 2020 Best Customer

Experiencesales and marketing initiative. The initiative aligns the

focus of the brands sales organization more strongly with customers

changing needs. One measure taken here was to step up the brands

presence in inner-city locationsin order to directly engage custom-

ers and the general public. Roughly 20 Mercedes-Benz city stores

were set up for this purpose. The most recent outlets opened in Tokyo

in 2011, in Milan in 2012, and in Osaka in 2013. Plans call for the

number of city stores to double to more than 40 outlets worldwide by

2020. Additional customer contact points are offered by temporary

sales formats, such as the Mercedes-Benz Pavilion that was set up in

Warsaw during the summer of 2013 and attracted more than 20,000

visitors. It was the venue for over 80 events that were followed by

thousands of Facebook users. For many of those in attendance, the

events marked their first contact ever with the premium brand.

In order to provide customers with a standardized image of the Best

Customer Experience in communications and external advertising,

the premium automaker from Stuttgart has created a newMercedes

mebrand that brings together all available and future service and

mobility solutions. Mercedes me offers innovative and customer-

focused all-round services that go beyond the automobile product.

The brand focuses consistently on the customer and makes interaction

with Mercedes-Benz more transparent, attractive, and comfortable.

It sets new standards for personal customer care.

Online vehicle salesare also an integral component of the new

sales and marketing initiative. In December 2013, Mercedes-Benz

became the first premium manufacturer to offer new vehicles via

the Internet. More than 60,000 people visited the brands onlineplatform in the first four weeks alone. The new digital sales channel

supplements traditional retail outlets and offers a good opportunity

to address young and Internet-savvy customer groups in particular.

It also ensures the Mercedes-Benz brand is always available to serve

new and existing customers, regardless of where they happen to be.

Mercedes-Benz has enjoyed continual success in social networks

since 2007, when the brand launched its digital marketing activities

and also established a professional journalist presencein the ever-

more influential social-networking scene. The goal here is to engage

online information multipliers regardless of the digital channels

they use in an open dialogue that brings them into closer contact

with Mercedes-Benz, its products, and the people behind the brand.

Conversely, social networking helps the brand learn about the needs

and wishes of existing and potential customers. From the beginning,

Mercedes-Benz made a major effort to establish viable relationships

in social networks and thus effectively address modern target groupsin a new way. Today, Mercedes-Benz has sustainable professional

relationships with numerous international online opinion-makers

in areas ranging from the automotive industry to the technology,

fashion, design, and lifestyle sectors. The brand invites these people

not only to its social media events and dialogue platforms, but also to

traditional events, such as press driving presentations, auto shows,

workshops, and TecDays. Mercedes-Benz Social Publish, which was

launched in 2012, is a popular service for bloggers and online journal-

ists who do not restrict themselves to traditional media sites when

looking for inspiration concerning automobiles and their technology

    and design (www.socialpublish.mercedes-benz.com).

Mercedes-Benz is now one of the most successful brandsin the

social web a fact confirmed by several independent studies in 2013,

including studies conducted by eBench and SocialBakers. Successhere is not measured solely by the number of fans and followers a site

has but also, and more importantly, by the degree of interaction with

people via various platforms throughout the social web. For example,

the brand with the star has the most dedicated Instagram fans among

all automakers worldwide. This is due in part to quirky campaigns

such as the Mercedes-Benz Instagram Shootoutcompetition,

which invites photographers specializing in automobiles to post their

photos on the Mercedes-Benz channel. All users are able to rate the

photos, and the photographer whose picture receives the most likes is

declared the winner of the competition. Mercedes-Benz is also among

the most popular companies on Facebook and Twitter. The brand will

expand its innovative online activities in 2014.

Sensual purityas an expression of modern luxury this is the

Mercedes-Benz design philosophy, and the focus of all its design

work. The goal is to create clear contours and smooth surfaces that

convey a high-tech message while also eliciting emotions. Its impor-tant to also bring this bipolarity of the Mercedes-Benz brand to life

in the vehicles, even as designers lend each model series its distinc-

tive character in line with the attributes that form the core design

of the model. Nevertheless, a Mercedes-Benz is always recognizable

as a Mercedes-Benz because along with incorporating new stylistic

developments, the designers draw from a gene pool of typical brand

styling features in order to keep the brand tradition alive. In addition

to their work with automobiles, the brands designers also design other

products that they develop in cooperation with selected partners

under the Mercedes-Benz Stylelabel. The complete Mercedes-Benz

Style portfolio can be viewed at www.mercedes-benz-style.com.

Mercedes-Benz also underscores its commitment to a distinctive style

and trend-setting design through its involvement in fashion activi-

tiesworldwide. The brand is currently active in 44 fashion platformsin 28 countries. The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam,

Mercedes-Benz Stylo Asia Fashion Week, and Shooting Fashion Stars

Prague platforms were added in 2013. Through its presence at the

most important international fashion events, Mercedes-Benz sends a

clear signal that unique styling and visionary design are key compo-

    nents of the brands philosophy.

Mercedes-Benz commitment to social responsibilityis demonstrated

by the brands support of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation,

which assists more than 1.5 million underprivileged children and

teenagers around the world by funding over 140 sports projects. The

Laureus Academy also honors the worlds best athletes every year

with the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards. Award winners

in 2013 included the European Ryder Cup team and track-and-field

athletes Usain Bolt from Jamaica and Jessica Ennis from the UK.Mercedes-Benz is once again extensively involved in German sports

activitiesin 2014. The brand has launched a campaign known as

Bereit wie nie(Readier than Ever) to support the German national

soccer teams efforts to win this years World Cup in Brazil. The slogan

expresses the teams unconditional commitment of its full potential to

capturing the title this year. The brand has been a partner of the Ger-

man Football Federationsince 1972 and its general sponsor since

1990. The partnership was renewed for another seven years in 2011.

Mercedes-Benz is also very active in golfas a partner of three of

the four major tournaments (Masters, Open Championship, and PGA

Championship) and of the Ryder Cup. In the area of amateur sports,

the MercedesTrophy premium golf tournament series will be held

in 2014 for the 25th time and feature more than 65,000 players

worldwide. Mercedes-Benz is also involved in tennisand equestrian

sportsand has been supporting the Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe

foundation in Germany for many years. The brand has been the foun-dations national sponsor since 2008.

    Mercedes-AMG

AMG these three letters are a symbol around the globe for exclusive

high-performance automobiles that deliver a dynamic driving experi-

ence. The company, which was founded in 1967 by Hans Werner

Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2012.

With its impressive success in motor sports and its unique vehicles,

AMG has rightfully earned its reputation as the successful sports and

    high-performance brandfrom Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-AMG, a

wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, spearheads the development

of high-performance technology at the Group. The AMG brand claim of

Driving Performance has been guaranteeing the most sophisticated

technology and pure driving fascination for 47 years.

The SLS AMGsuper sports car developed independently by

Mercedes-AMG has become a brand icon since its initial presentation

in 2009. The SLS AMG is a coveted model around the world. This

is largely due to its motor sports success in the form of the SLS AMG

GT3, as well as the great variety the series offers with its coup,

roadster, GT, SLS AMG Black Seriescoup, and the Final Edition, which

was unveiled in the fall of 2013. AMG has also impressively demon-

strated its innovative capability with the SLS AMG Electric Drive super

sports coup, which boasts a unique drive system solution.

The former two-man operation now employs more than 1,200 people

in Affalterbach and sold approximately 32,200 vehicles last year, making

2013 the best year in the companys history. This dynamic growth

was made possible by an expansion of the product range and the com-

panys entry into attractive new segments. For example, AMG now

offers three new models for the compact segment: the sporty A 45 AMG(165-161 g CO

    2/km, fuel consumption, combined: 7.1-6.9 l/100 km

    [automatic transmission]), the CLA 45 AMG (165-161 g CO2/km,

    Sustainable, Safe, and

    Fascinating Mobility of the

    Future.

    Contact:[email protected], tel. +49 (0)711 17-92311

    Our mission

Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz invented the automobile nearly 130

years ago. Daimler continues this tradition and reinvents it time and

again. Thats because our mission is to shape the future of private

    transport.

Focal points of our research and development activities

To safeguard future mobility, Mercedes-Benz Cars focuses primarily on

    the following issues:

    Environmental compatibility and sustainability

    Safety Networked driving

    Autonomous driving

    Comfort

    Quality

    Design

By doing so, we anticipate global trends and social developments.

    Our goals

Mercedes-Benz Cars is making mobility safe and sustainable.

To this end, it develops products tailored to its customers needs.

In this context, all key aspects of an automobiles overall system are

    taken equally into consideration.

As it pursues the goal of accident-free driving, Mercedes-Benz Cars

continues to network its assistance systems and enhance their

capabilities in order to reduce driver stress, and even enable vehicles

    to drive on their own.

Mercedes-Benz Cars is also working to lower fuel consumption and

emissions, and actually reduce both to zero in the long-run. Another long-term goal is still to network automobiles with all of

    their surroundings.

Mercedes-Benz Cars develops economical, environmentally friendly

premium-segment vehicles without sacrificing safety, comfort, or

    cultivated sportiness.

    Road Map to Sustainable Mobility.

    The challenges

In the future, private transport will have to meet increasingly diversifiedand complex requirements, including those associated with growing

    urbanization and increased networking.

    Strategy for sustainable mobility

The strategy at Mercedes-Benz Cars encompasses all activities related

to the vehicle and the drive system that are designed to conserve

resources and reduce emissions throughout the entire value creation

process. The outstanding comfort and safety typical of Mercedes

    vehicles remain unchanged here.

Mercedes-Benz Cars is exploiting all possibilities to improve its

    vehicles and drive systems.

The potential harbored in all development areas is being tapped

from lightweight construction and optimized aerodynamics to the

electrification of ancillary components. The 3D Body Engineering program pools all measures that provide

maximum safety while also making vehicles light and aerodynamic,

    and thus more efficient.

Daimler also is committed to the use of clean and alternative fuels.

A broad range of drive systems for creating tailored customer

    solutions

Optimization of vehicles with state-of-the-art, high-tech combustion

    engines.

Further increases in efficiency through tailored hybridization with

various output ratings and for different applications.

Driving with zero local emissions using fuel cell or battery technology.

These technologies have been an integral part of the Mercedes-Benz

Cars drive system strategy for years now. Depending on the respec-

tive area of application and customer profile, they make an optimalcontribution to sustainable mobility. All the technologies are consis-

    tently transferred to series-produced products.

Optimization of vehicles with state-of-the-art, high-tech combus-

    tion engines

The current generations of gasoline and diesel engines clearlydemonstrate that combustion engines can remain attractive drive

systems if they are consistently further developed i.e. become

more fuel-efficient while at the same time offering higher perfor-

    mance and smooth operation.

Emissions are reduced in all model series. Examples include

    the BlueEFFICIENCY Edition of the A 180 CDI (92 g CO2/km, fuel

consumption, combined: 3.6 l/km [manual transmission]), the

    GLA 200 CDI (119-114 g CO2/km, fuel consumption, combined:

    5.5-5.4 l/100 km [manual transmission], 5.3-5.2 l/100 km

[automatic transmission]), and the E 200 NGD in natural gas mode

    (120-116 g CO2/km, fuel consumption, combined: 5.9-5.8 l/100 km

    [automatic transmission]).

Mercedes-Benz Cars has more than 100 vehicles across all

segments that have been certified Efficiency Class A+ or A.

More than 45 percent of its vehicles already comply with the EU 6emission standard, and this figure will climb to over 50 percent

    throughout 2014.

Hybridization of vehicles with efficient combustion engines

The modular hybrid systemfrom Mercedes-Benz allows customerrequirements to be met with tailored solutions. Hybrid modules

that have various output ratings and are linked to a variety of

batteries can be combined with our most commonly manufac-

tured gasoline and diesel engines. Features here range from the

    user-friendly start-stop function to energy boosting/recovery and

purely electric driving. Another option is the PLUG- IN HYBRID, in

which batteries can be recharged at normal power outlets in order

    to increase the electric range.

Mercedes-Benz Cars currently offers vehicles such as the

    E300 BlueTEC HYBRID (110-107 g CO2/km, fuel consumption,

combined: 4.2-4.1 l/km [automatic transmission]) as upper-

range hybrid models. With the introduction of the new C-Class,

hybrid technology will be offered in all of the core model series

    in the future.

The new S-Class is available in three hybrid variants: Since2013 customers have been able to choose from the S 400 HYBRID

    (159-147 g CO2/km, fuel consumption, combined: 6.1-5.8 l/km

[automatic transmission]) and the S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID

    (124-115 g CO2/km, fuel consumption, combined: 5.1-4.8 l/km

[manual transmission], 5.2-4.9 l/km [automatic transmission]).

These models will be followed in 2014 by the S 500 PLUG- IN

HYBRID (market introduction in the second half of the year). As

a result, the S- Class will set a fuel efficiency record for luxury

sedans that would have been considered almost unthinkable just

a few years ago. Thanks to a synchronous electric motor, the

S-Class can travel many kilometers solely on electricity.

Local zero-emission driving: Electric vehicles with fuel cells or

batteries Electric vehicles are powered by an electric motor. The electricity is

either supplied by a rechargeable battery or directly by an onboard

    fuel cell.

Both fuel cell and battery electric vehicles are quiet, highly

efficient, and produce no local emissions.

With a total of eight models, Daimler offers a range of locally emis-

sion-free vehicles that is unique in the automotive industry. These

vehicles include passenger cars, vans, light trucks, and a bus. As a

result, Daimler can meet almost every road mobility requirement.

    The models are the:

smart fortwo electric drive including the BRABUS Variant

    Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL

    Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coup Electric Drive

Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL panel van and crewbus Mercedes-Benz Citaro FuelCELL-HYBRID

    Fuso Canter E-CELL

Freightliner Custom Chassis MT E-CELL All-Electric

An additional model will be added to the electric fleet in 2014:

    the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive.

    Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive

    Takes a Further Step Toward

    Accident-Free and Autonomous

    Driving.

In pursuit of its goal of accident-free and autonomous driving,

Mercedes-Benz is continually improving the performance and capabili-ties of its driver assistance systems. Numerous systems with new and

expanded features are now serving as active partners that can assist

drivers in an increasing number of situations, thereby enhancing both

driver comfort and safety. These systems are the backbone of the

    Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive concept.

    Sensors notice everything

The basis for the new systems is an innovative stereo camera and an

algorithm developed by Mercedes-Benz. The stereo camera system

offers a 360 view and generates precise images of the vehicles

surroundings. The data collected and an intelligent merged sensor

system allow Intelligent Drive to assess driving situations, recognize

potential dangers, and support drivers in fractions of a second with

appropriate measures, such as autonomous braking maneuvers and

    clear acoustic or visual warnings.

    The future begins today

Intelligent Drive also enables initial semi-autonomous driving

functions. For example, DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and

Stop&Go Pilot helps drivers maintain a set distance to a vehicle

in front and keep their own vehicle in the center of the lane. It thus

enables autonomous driving in slow-moving traffic and its

already available in new S-, E-, and C-Class production cars.

The goals Mercedes-Benz is pursuing with Intelligent Drive and the

huge potential harbored by technologies already available today were

    put on display in 2013.

Anniversary of the first long-distance automobile journey

celebrated with the S 500 INTELLIGENT DRIVE

In August 2013, Mercedes-Benz became the worlds first automaker

to prove that autonomous driving is possible both in cities and oncountry roads. The brand sent its S 500 INTELLIGENT DRIVE (213-

    199 g CO2/km, fuel consumption, combined: 5.9-5.5 l/km [automatic

transmission]) research vehicle on a historic journey that retraced

the roughly 100-kilometer route from Mannheim to Pforzheim taken

by Bertha Benz 125 years before, when she became the first person

to complete such a long trip in an automobile. In the heavy traffic of

the 21st century the self-driving S-Class had to autonomously master

difficult challenges posed by traffic lights, traffic circles, pedestrians,

cyclists, and streetcars. The knowledge gained from this landmark

journey will not only be incorporated into Mercedes-Benz research

and development activities; it will also help to continually optimize

assistance systems in the brands production vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz assistance systems with partly autonomousdriving features

DISTRONIC/DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control (1998/2005):

The adaptive cruise control was introduced in 1998 and upgraded

with improved radar sensors in 2005. The system automatically

maintains a safe distance to the vehicle ahead. It can also auto-

nomously brake and accelerate the vehicle.

PRE-SAFEBrake (2006): The system can automatically initiate

a braking maneuver in order to prevent a collision (autonomous

    partial and emergency braking).

Active Blind Spot Assist (2010): The system recognizes whether the

adjacent lane is occupied and can independently brake the vehicle

to reduce the risk of a collision during a lane change.

Active Lane Keeping Assist (2010): When linked with ESP, the

system brakes the wheels opposite the direction in which the vehicleis inadvertently drifting over a solid or broken line, thereby keeping

    the car in its lane.

Active Parking Assist (2010): An electric mechanical direct steering

feature guides the vehicle into parking spaces.

DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot (2013):

Helps drivers maintain a set distance to a vehicle in front and keep

their own vehicle in the center of the lane, which enables autonomous

    driving in slow-moving traffic.

BAS PLUS Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Assist (2013):

Detects crossing traffic and pedestrians and boosts braking force.

The networked world is leading to greater flexibility and free-

dom. In its role as an automotive pioneer, Daimler is harnessingthe tremendous innovation potential of the interfaces between

    communication and mobility.

The Digital DriveStyle app has long since become a feature of

Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Internet connectivity and the integration

of mobile devices, innovative telematics systems, and numerous

apps from Mercedes-Benz enable various forms of communication

in the vehicle. Online services are also making access to mobility

systems and electric mobility solutions easier and more efficient.

The COMAND multimedia system and the Digital DriveStyle app for

iPhones bring the digital world to vehicles driven by Mercedes-Benz

customers. The brands graphic user interface currently supports

the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, and 5S, and will also be able to accommodate

most Android smartphones before the end of 2014. In addition, any

other phone with the DUN (DialUpNetworking) and PAN (Personal-

AreaNetworking) Bluetooth profiles can be used to make calls, sendand receive texts, and download audio streams.

The vehicle as part of the Internet of Things

Mercedes-Benz is already demonstrating today how intelligently net-

worked vehicles will become part of the future Internet of Things and

offer value-added services to customers. Customized applications

optimized specifically for use in vehicles are already being developed in

cooperation with strategic partners from Silicon Valley. For example, a

future modification to the Digital DriveStyle app will allow Mercedes-Benz

drivers to use a Pebble smartwatch to remotely access their vehicle

in order to find out how much fuel it has left, where its parked, and

even whether its locked or not. A partnership with Nest Labs will

enable Mercedes drivers to control temperature settings in their home

or office right from their car.

With its eyes firmly on the world of the day after tomorrow,

Mercedes-Benz has also launched a program known as Predictive

User Experience that will transform vehicles into intelligent

companions that recognize the moods, wishes, and preferences

of their drivers and passengers, thereby enabling cars to predict

    commands.
