What are benchmarks?

Students will receive their grade-specific, monthly benchmarks at their first workshop of the summer

Mentors will receive copies at that same time

Virtual Community ServiceOpportunities (Samples)

Create a video message for or write a letter to a teacher who inspired you in some way, big or small

Record yourself reading an elementary school appropriate book to share with our youngest CCPS students and teachers – if you can combine this with a related craft or activity…even better!

Write letters/cards to local nursing home residents or to veterans overseas

Select a lesson for next year’s Junior or Senior lab and develop a lesson plan and power point from a student perspective.

Staying Connected Over the Summer

Ways to Stay Connected:• Join Optional Zoom Video Sessions (available every 2

weeks) – encourage mentee to arrange sessions• Read a Book or Article and Discuss Together• Train for a 5K or some exercise goal (independently)

and cheer each other on• Learn some new skill, simultaneously

Tentative Options for Fall Mentoring Sessions

• Pending CDC Guidelines and CCPS Plan

• Sessions at lunchtime at school (if available)

• Sessions after school at CFL (if available)

• Zoom online sessions with staff initiation and supervision (breakout rooms)

Fall Student Programming

• 9th and 10th – monthly theme and tasks in Naviance

• 11th and 12th - Planning for mostly Virtual lab sessions – 2 time options per week

• 12th – Small group working sessions for college applications, FAFSA, etc. per CDC guidelines and CCPS plan

• 1-on-1 Meetings for All Grades – Mentors always invited to participate, if in-person or virtual

Mentor/Mentee Policy Reminder• Mentors/Mentees must have 15 in-person sessions per year

• Mentoring only takes place at school during lunch, or at the Champions For Learning Offices during regular business hours

• Sessions take place in a public space; sometimes conference rooms or classrooms are shared with other mentor/mentee pairs

• If mentors would like to attend school events (games, theater productions, awards ceremonies), parental permission is required

• Video chats are only approved if initiated and supervised by CFL staff

• Phone, e-mail, text communication with students is permitted with parental

approval; however, they may not count as “mentoring sessions”

• Mentors must never provide transportation to mentors

• Gifts are not permitted

• Mentors must log sessions on portal
