    PREFACE

In giving this work to the public, I haveno desire to antagonize any other method ofcuring the body of its troubles. I feel now,as I have felt ever since I heard of the firstmind cures, that there must be some law un-erlying

all such remedies. I believe there

is only one mystery in the whole universe thatwill never be solved by man. All others willbe known in time. It is man's mission onearth to discover the solutions. If it were not

    so, life would be intolerable.

If we look back over the many wonderful

mysteries that have been made plain, we willsee that it is not unreasonable to make such

a statement. When we stop and think thatthe force of gravity is drawing all material ofweight to the very lowest point toward thecenter of the earth, we can but draw the con-lusion

that the time will come when the earthwill be absolutely smooth on its surface. Now, when that time does arrive, the pro-hecy

of the Bible will have been fulfilled, that every mountain and hill shall be laid low.

So, when one considers the time it will take

to fill in all the valleys and ocean beds by this

    Mental Therapeutics

slow process, he should not have to strain

his imagination very much to see that manwill have done the same thing with his diffi-ulties

    in the meantime.

I have no doubt that intemperance and alldiseases of the mind which are filling our in-ane

asylums will be overcome by the use ofthe same law. I have already had almost con-lusive

evidence of it, but in this work I have

written only what I know from experience tobe absolutely true. If I am right about this

law, the fact does not disprove religious works

but rather strengthens them. To an inventor

or to one who loves to surmount obstacles,

life seems all sunshine when the results are

obtained. Then he hastens to new fields,

never satisfied. So in this work I feel that

we are just on the first beautiful plain, after

a hard climb, and that the rugged mountains

await to be conquered.I desire and hope for plenty of assistance in

    the g^eat work.

    MENTAL THERAPEUTICS

    OR

    How TO Cure all Diseases

    With the Mind

    I.

A human life should be in perfect harmony, and would be but for sickness and sin. Fromthe time of Adam and Eve a discord has ex-sted

in human life, caused by sickness andsin. Christ came and supplied, for those whodesired to possess it, the lost chord that hasever produced perfect harmony where thediscord was caused by sin. He did not forceit on any one, but they who have been wiseenough to seek his blessed gift to humanityhave always found harmony, regardless evenof the discord produced by sickness.

In this book I am going to show my read-rshow to supply the lost chord caused by

sickness, so that harmony will reign in theirlives as far as it ever can, until the lost chord

that Christ supplied for sin is used in connec-ionwith it, when perfect harmony will fill

the heart. It is not reasonable to supposethat God, who left humanity from the begin-

    Mental Therapeutics

ning of time to the coming of Christ withoutthe means of reaching Heaven, and then, through that g^eat event gave the remedy, did not also provide a way for humanity tofree itself from the curse of sickness.

For ages man suffered untold agony from

operations before anaesthetics were discov-red.One would think, from a human stand-oint,that He would have made the world

acquainted with so great a blessing ages ago.But such was not God's way. All our knowl-dge

must be acquired by the slow laborious

process. It can almost be said that no one man has

ever discovered any great new principle un-idedby the discoveries of others. Wireless

telegraphy was made possible only by the useof Hertzian waves. The coherer was primi-ively

used as a lightning arrester. The lawswhich govern the solar and sidereal systemsof worlds were discovered gradually.

It is the mind, the good part of which isGod himself, that has accomplished these won-erful

results. If the mind is the source ofall these miraculous feats, then who will havethe temerity to say that it can not cure ofillness the habitation wherein it dwells anddominates. Why God, in his wisdom, has leftus to find out all these things is a mystery.

God holds the universe in His hand andtreats it as we do a little child. As the child

grows we give it the things necessary foreach period of its life, while it is constantlyasking for things which we can give it onlyat a later time. The whole body of a child, aswell as its mind, must develop simultaneously. The world, in its improvements, must developin a like manner.

At different periods, since the beginning, there have been men who have performedwonderful cures without the use of medicine, but always in a mysterious manner. Eitherthey did not know how they accomplished theresults, or, for their own reasons, did notdesire to make it known. The former explana-ion

seems the more probable. In this con-ectionI may mention Mr. Quimby, of Maine,

Mrs. M. B. Eddy, of New Hampshire, Mr.Alexander Dowie and Bishop Fallows, of Chi-ago.

There have been many others, but nonewho have made any great headway. Mr.Quimby did not claim that he was the dis-overer

of the long lost power, given to theApostles by Christ, of healing the body in-tantly

without the use of medicine. The

rest have so claimed either directly or in-irectly,by calling it Christian Science or

Christian Psychology. There is no doubt that11

Alexander Dowie made many cures in thebelief that he was a prophet of God. Sincethe acts of his life have been laid bare, we allknow that God never made him his prophet.

The followers of Christian Science havemade many wonderful cures and claim thatthey have found the Apostles' lost power.Bishop Fallows calls his discovery, if thepapers have reported him correctly, ChristianPsychology, yet he limits his power of themind to non-functional diseases; and even inthese cases a doctor must be consulted. Ishall not say that they do not have the powerChrist gave the Apostles, but I do know thatit takes time to make all these modern cures, while Christ's cures were instantaneous and

even decayed parts were made new instantly. In our modern cures pain can be relieved in-tantly

but there is no record of lost fleshbeing restored instantly.

    II.

God intended man to be free from bodilysickness some time but man himself mustbreak the shackles by hard labor. I am goingto tell my readers exactly how to cure bodilysickness without the use of medicine and whyit will work, so that there shall be no mysteryabout it.

First I will say that but for the physiciansand chemists none of these discoveries couldhave been made. But for them, the corpus-les

of the blood and the cellular life of thetissues would not have been discovered, northe mircrobes or bacteria, which are causingso much devastation to the human race. Butfor them millions who are now enjoying goodhealth would have been in their graves. Thedeath rate has been lowered all over the worldby their great work.

From what I have discovered I can see noreason why man should not live as long asthe bible says he used to. Take a child andteach it so that it will never have a cold runon it, or any disease, and it will live to oldage in perfect health. Then why should theman die, except that he wears out from work, like the Deacon's Wonderful One HorseChaise? But why should he wear out if germlife is kept from his body? For it is well-known that old age is caused by microbes thatdestroy the tissues of the flesh.

I am going to narrate my experience withthis great discovery just as it happened, sothat the reader will see that he must creepbefore he walks. It is my desire, in writingthis experience, to get it used by the greatmajority, who are debt-ridden through sick-

ness; and, indirectly, to get a recompense formyself.

Before proceeding I desire to say that re-igionhas nothing whatever to do with curing

bodily ills. The cure is accomplished by theknowledge and use of a positive law, just asunvarying as the law that brings about theeclipse of sun or moon or the law that makesthe magnetic north pole revolve regularlyabout the true pole. A mathematician can telljust how long it will be before another eclipseor how long it will take for a revolution of themagnetic pole about the true one. If you cannot do so, it is because you do not know thelaw. So, if you can not effect cures, it is notbecause there is not a universal law but be-ause

you do not know the law.I will describe my condition in the year

1904, my present state of health, and how Ieffected the great change. I have no doubtthat others have used this law before but in

an unconscious manner. No one, to myknowledge, has ever explained how the cureswere made and why one is positive of makingthem.

Since I was a boy of twelve years of age,I have been afflicted with catarrh, which, as Igrew older, gradually affected my throat andright lung. I have also had a bad pain in

    14

my side just under the ribs. At times thispain has been so severe that I could not sleepafter 5 o'clock in the morning without puttingmy doubled-up fist under the ribs on the rightside and lying on it. Doctors said the painwas caused by my liver and gall.

About twenty years ago itching piles devel-.oped and a little later bladder troubles set in.My father died very suddenly from heart fail-re

and about twenty years ago I commencedto feel pains in my heart, particularly if I triedto suppress excitement the least degree. Ihave always caught cold every time the tem-erature

changed to a colder one. It wasnoticing this simple fact that led me to dis-over

the law that I now use to prevent andcure all pain and sickness. Formerly, when-ver

I caught a cold, I would be in bed forseveral days and unable to work for a weekor more.

I used to say to myself that if I could onlyget some remedy for colds I would not askfor any greater favor in this life. When onestops to think that colds are the fore-runnersof almost all other diseases he will realizethat I was asking for more than I had a rightto expect.

At the present time I am feeling better thanever before in my life. I can do more work

    15

of any kind than when I was twenty-five, andfeel that life is just beginning. No pains cometo my body that I can not cure instantly. Sofar as I can tell, my catarrh is the onlytrouble that I yet have. It is so much im-roved

that I know I shall finally cure it. Ca-arrhbeing a disease that causes no pain, it

is hard to keep one's mind on it long enough^ to get results. When one has pain it is easy

to center the mind.In the year 1904 I was riding back and

forth between Oakland and San Francisco, and, as I had many hard colds that year, Icommenced to think about it and wonder whyI had them.

Though I wondered what caused them Icould not find any reasonable explanation, even by the best authorities, which a laymancould understand and make use of.

    III.

One day I went to a doctor in San Fran-iscoto have something done for my bladder

troubles. He told me incidentally that henever had a cold. He had* at one time made abet that he could go to the top of one ofCalifornia's high mountains with only hisouter garments on " in the rain, snow andsleet, without .catching a cold. He won the

bet. I asked him how he prevented coldsand he replied that he just made up his mindthat he would not have them. Asked if heused Christian Science, he said "no." Heeither could not explain or did not care to.

As he related his experience in going to thetop of the mountain I remembered that in the

summer of 1894 I, with two others, had at-emptedto cruise out a trail from the western

portion of Jefferson County, which lies onthe Pacific Ocean in Washington, to PortTownsend, which is in the extreme easternpart of the state, on Puget Sound.

Any one who has ever viewed these Alpsof the Pacific Coast knows how hazardous wasthe undertaking. We were, twenty-one daysin getting through and many times all but lostour lives. We waded rivers of ice-cold water

many times a day. At night we lay on theground with our wet clothes on. Yet in themorning we would get up and start out againwith no discomfort. We slept on snow andglaciers, on high mountain peaks where thecold wind whistled through our wet clothes. And in all that long trip none of us caught acold or had any sickness. In fact one of the^v

party, who had bad bleeding piles when we \started, found them wonderfully improved by

    -

    "

    the trip.17

    Mental Therapeutics

From the doctor's experience and my ownin the mountains, I began to study, on mytrips across the Bay, why we did not getcolds in the mountains. I knew that here inthe city, at every change of temperature to alower degree people would catch cold or con-ract,

    some other form of sickness.

Another thing which I had noticed andwhich excited my curiosity, was that when-ver

I had been long without a cold and beganto think about it, hoping that I would nothave them any more, I would invariably getone. I did not then know that the least

degree of fear causes a slight change of tem-eratureof the blood; nor did I know how

to provide against' having that lowering of theheat of the body.

Right here is a great secret! Every evilthat man is heir to can be provided against ifhe only studies out the way. If one who isliable to be tempted to sin will but think ofit beforehand and make up his mind that hewill not commit it and will avoid the occasionof it, the battle is won. The same holds goodwith the attacks of diseases. You must learn

to be on your guard, for the enemy neversleeps. To cure any sickness is easy if one ison guard.

would be time wasted to recite any morecases.

I also knew the theory of the blood " ^thatit is composed of two classes of minute ani-als

called corpuscles. One of these littlefellows is red and the other white. Theselatter are sometimes called phagocytes. Thered ones give the blood its color and theiroffice seems to be to accompany the white

ones in their swift journeys through theheart, lungs, arteries and veins, taking up thelife-giving ammunition supplied by the air inthe lungs and the carbon from the food, forthe use of the white ones, and the cellularlife in the tissues, bones and nerves.

The white corpuscles are the fierce littlebulldogs of the system, which do all the fight-ng

for and protecting of the system, afterhaving driven off the enemy which is everpresent where human beings congregate. Therepairs of the tissues, bones and nerves isaccomplished by the cellular life therein.

Do not forget that these little fighters mustbe kept warm and must distribute the neces-ary

heat to the cellular life which rebuildsthe lost or destroyed parts. A certain degreeof heat must be kept up, so that your workwill be properly performed and also that youmay have absolute control of the corpuscles

    Mental Therapeutics

and can send them to any part of your body,as readily as you can move a hand or foot atwill.

    IV.

In a nut-shell, the whole situation seems tobe that human beings, especially where con-regated

in numbers, are surrounded by en-miesin the form of bacteria or germs. These

are hungry and cold and desire a place topropagate their kind. The human bodyaffords them such a place if they can only getin; but there are those dreadful little whitebulldogs on the watch at all the pores of theskin in a healthy man, to prevent their gettinga foot-hold.

Why God has made it necessary that wher-vertrue progress is made opposition must

exist we do not know. But such is the case.In every walk of life, where negative force, obstacles, opposition do not appear, you willfind little progress. In the mountains anddeserts we do not find the earth and air full

of microbes and consequently diseases arerarely found there. But on the other handvery few, if any, great men have been devel-ped

from a life spent away from this nega-iveforce which we always have present, both

in our contact with other human beings andin the constant fight in our bodies betweenthe corpuscles of the blood and the bacteriain the outside element.

This is so self-evident that it is quite un-ecessaryto have written it for those who

read the editorials and magazines of the pres-ntday; but there is a vast majority who do

not know these actual facts.Heat is life and cold is death! This state-ent

may be an absolute fact or it may not,but so far as humanity is concerned at thepresent time it is true.

Every living thing in the universe has itsenemies and man has often made use of thisknowledge to exterminate pests. If one de-ires

to get rid of mice he gets a cat; of rats,a weasel; of insects, that ruin fruit trees orfruit, another insect which preys upon thefirst for its food. So, to get rid of microbes, you make use of their deadly enemy, the cor-uscles,

to destroy them or drive them fromthe body.

In the great modern battleship the man inthe conning tower has only to touch a buttonhere, ring a bell there or lift a lever, turn avalve, and the ponderous machine obeys hisslightest wish. When he lifts a lever or turnsa valve, he does not exert an amount of en-

ergy equal to the results obtained. Theenergy has already been stored by the work-en,

through brain and muscle, and he onlyliberates it. It is this stored energy whichenabled him to change the movements of theship so easily. The human body is like untothe ship. The man in the conning tower ofthe brain has control of all its vital parts.

No power can be gained without a corre-pondingexpenditure of power. If I have had

a pain in my side for years, which was causedby the destruction of tissue, and if I instantlycure it one might think that I was gettingsomething for nothing. Not so. I have simplyliberated stored energy and it is no miracleat all

"not even a greater act than that of

the man guiding the ship.God put the mind in -control of the body to

direct all its movements, inside as well asoutside. If it fails to do so the fault is notthat it has no power but rather that it has notlearned how to govern it. The corpuscles ofthe blood are to the mind what the workmen

are to the man in the tower.I have now put the reader in possession of

the knowledge I had in 1904, if he had notpreviously acquired that information. I hopethat he realizes that half of any battle is wonwhen the knowledge comes that a fight is on.

As soon as I realized that I ought nothave colds, I had sense enough to know thatthere was a way to prevent them, if I only-had the ability to find it out. I believed thatGod had provided a way but I did not believethat He would cure me unless I found that

    way.Inventors all

    saythat they have made their

greatest discoveries after having studied hardand failed ; that later, when no longer thinkingof their failure, the right idea comes to themlike a stroke of lightning in its swiftness. I

supposethat this is caused by the mind hav-ng

to take time to work out the problem be-orethe intelligence is conveyed to the picture

gallery in the brain. To illustrate this point: " I remember that

when a boy, I went nutting with two com-anionsin a wood which nearly surrounded

a small farm. We all knew the place as wellas we knew our own homes. In wanderingabout, instead of coming out on the clearing,as we expected, we arrived at exactly theopposite side. We had the picture in ourbrain of the side opposite the one which wesaw. None of us knew the place at all.The barn and house were entirely strange tous. We sat on a rail fence for about fiveminutes with our mouths wide open in won-

derment, when, like a flash, the farm seemedto take a turn and all was perfectly familiar.I

supposethe picture first formed had to be

erased and a new one printed by the intelli-encewithin us.

So it is with you in this matter :" ^You have

got to imagine that your views of life arewrong

and that things will take a whirl beforeyou will see the real picture of a man whoneed not be sick, or grow old " in looks, atleast.

After studying the subject for a long timein 1904 and getting no results, one day thethought came to me instantly that the ' mindmust have control of the corpuscles of theblood and that they would do its will if thecommand were given. I did not have acold at that time and could not expect that

my view of life would take a whirl till I haddemonstrated the law. The first time that Ifelt a cold coming on, I just gave a mentalorder to "my workmen" to drive the microbesout, and it did not develop. I was not sat-sfied,

however, till I had tried it again andagain " with success every time.

Those first successes were when I felt acold coming on. Later, on one occasion, Iwas working very busily. Having my hatoff, I caught a good hard cold before I

thought to try my remedy. I said to my-elf,"that will be easy"; but when I tried

    to do it"

lo! it did not work at all. I wentto studying again and soon found out thetrouble.

I reasoned in this way with myself : If twoarmies are facing each other in battle array, each trying to defeat the other by trying toget a foot-hold in its lines, a good com-ander

knows that he must not neglect anypoint that will help keep his opponent fromsecuring an advantage over him. If his scoutstell him the enemy is advancing to attack at aweak spot in his lines he at once sends troopsto strengthen that point, and in sufficientnumbers to ward off the foe. By making agood show of defense, he will often preventthe attack. But suppose the enemy steals upand gets entrenched before the commander isaware of it, then it will take much moreenergy to drive him out of his advantageousposition. In case of a cold already underway, or any firmly seated disease, it is neces-ary

to use more energy to drive it out thanif it had been taken in time. It is compul-ory,

for success, to make the corpuscles morecombative, to drive out the entrenched enemy. This is only applied common sense, such asany business man uses in every day affairs.

Inside of one dayhe was on the road to recovery. Heat waslife in that case sure enough. The heat ap-lied

to the decaying parts brought the cor-usclesthere is such force that they routed

the microbes.I have explained how to cure a cold or any

sickness. This method, if followed faith-ully,with just the ordinary business force

" so much so that you will be as-onishedat the results. Always remember

that for one to be successful in any businesshe must understand that occupation; and thebetter his knowledge of it is, the greater willbe his success.

    VI.

I will now tell you how you get sickness

or cold and explain why. The facts are sosimple that I have little fear of the most

learned physicians denying them. I statethem here because it has been my experienceall through life that it is the simple thingsof life that are most often overlooked.

After watching the conditions under whichI caught cold, as before stated, I found thatit always happened when the temperaturewas falling. Now this was a greater discov-ry

than at first appears; for I immediatelyasked the question "why?" I knew that if aperson sat in a draft in the house he would

invariably catch cold. I said, "Why does notone catch cold when out in the wind as well

as when in a room?" The answer was easyto find. Corpuscles of the blood are creaturesof temperature. They are more sensitive toheat and cold than one can readily realize. When you stop to think that they are themedium through which you find out that achange is taking place in the temperatureyou will see at once that they are as reliableas a thermometer.

These fighters who are always on guard allover your body, doing their work, are con-tantly

sending messages to the man in thepilot house to tell him how things are going. All at once some one opens a window and acolder current of air strikes your back. The

corpuscles there feel it at once and warn you29

    34/88

    Mental THERApfetwcics

that they are cold. If you do not take thetrouble to warm them they desert their post.A little inside the flesh is nice and

warm andthey recede to that point, leaving your poresall exposed to the enemy ever lurking near, who too is cold, hungry and homeless. Themicrobes at once make a dive for the warmerplace inside your body and you have a coldstarted or some other disease according to thekind of germs which were nearest when yourlittle sentinels deserted their post.

Now, suppose that you had the knowledgewhich I am now giving you. The momentthat you felt the warning you would havedirected them to return to their posts, eitherby direct command or by any negative force. The act of thinking of them alone makes heatand if that were not sufficient you wouldhave taken a few deep breaths of air to sup-ly

them with the amount lost by the changeof temperature.

It is a well-established fact that fear in anyform causes a loss of heat. Those who areafraid that they will get a cold and be sickare most liable to do so. When out in the

wind, riding or automobiling, there is nomore danger of taking cold than when in thehouse, unless you take off some garment youhave been used to, because the corpuscles

    30

are doing their accustomed work. But takeoff your hat for a while and see how quicklya cold will start. If before removing yourhat you had thought about keeping up thesupply of heat at that point, which was radi-ted

by the change, you would not havecaught a cold. If you anticipate a changeand provide against having a cold you can sitin a draft or take off any garment, get wetand be wet in the wind with perfect immun-ty.

Of course there are exceptions to allrules but not to the workings of positive laws.

If you direct your thoughts to the corpus-lesof your blood to force them to do a cer-ainthing they will do it, positively, at your

bidding. If the disease is bad you must takethe deep breathings and keep up the com-ands

till you are cured. Perseverance alonewill win.

If a person's lungs are about gone it wouldbe beyond nature to make a new set. Ifyour leg is broken you have got to use na-ure,

through the fingers directed by themind, to get it back in place again. This, after all, is still the mind doing the workthrough the use of the blood. If your footis cut off there is no use in thinking thatnature will grow another one for you. Sofar as a human being is concerned there is

no exception in this, although there are ex-eptionsamong the lower animals.

So we can not saythat nature can not do

it but rather that she will not for us. Every-hingin the universe is ruled by fixed laws

and God himself will not break them for anyone. There is always a way of apparentlyoverthrowing them, as in this case of curingsickness.- People will say that is gettingsomething for nothing, that it is breaking afixed law. Not so. It is only so to those whodo not yet see through it.

Science tells us that a grain of copper hasmotion or life within it which exactly dupli-ates

that of the solar system in so far asto have a central body with minor bodiesheld by attraction and circulating around thecentral one. I believe it because the micro-cope

reveals 'it, as well as the telescope andreflectors reveal that there are worlds and

systems of worlds in the farthest depths ofspace to which they have reached.

Many people do not know of the microbictheory and consequently will not be able touse this method of combating sickness unlessthey are made to understand It thoroughly.

Like the theory of life in the atom of copper, which can be seen only with artificial eyes,so is that of animal life around us. Our eyesare mechanically constructed to receive lightonly when the vibrations are about a certainnumber per second. If they are not greatenough or too high we can not see. Somewild animals can see when the vibrations aremuch lower than for men; so that what isdarkness for the man is not darkness for theanimal.

With the ordinary vibrations of sunlightwe can see the flies and gnats around us andif they attempt to live off our bodies we atonce take means to get rid of them. Butwhy should we not think that there aresmaller animals than the flies and gnats andthat these, too, are continually trying to liveand breed in our bodies? It is common senseto believe that there is no end to the minute-ess

of animal life and besides science has

proved it years ago.Surely God has not left us without a

weapon to rid ourselves of these enemieswhich we can not see.

If you have to perform a piece of workand your neighbors come in and insist onhelping you and if they continue to do soyou will gradually do less and allow them to

do more. If a wife begins to help her hus-andearn money the chances are nine out of

ten that he will allow her more and more totake his place as a bread winner. It is naturein man which prompts this. For that reasondoctors will tell you not to make it a habitto take medicine.

So it is with the corpuscles of the blood. If you go for relief to doctors who have stud-ed

how to kill microbes the medicine theygive you will do the corpuscles* work andthey will lie down, as it were, and allow itto do the work more and more according asyou develop the habit of its use. You indoing so expend your energy in earningmoney to buy the medicine, which energyshould be applied to the corpuscles of theblood directly. If only a fraction of the en-rgy

expended in buying the medicine isapplied direct the results will seem miracu-ous.

Human nature is pugnacious. Men willfight a visible enemy at the drop of the hat.Why they will lie down at the sight of sick-ess

came back and I treated it again with mymethod and have not felt it since.

The next trouble I had was from carbun-les.A big one came on my neck. I did not

know what it was till it got the size of awalnut. I went to the best surgeon in Oak-and,

who cut it out bodily. The next day Ihad six come under my arm and from that Iknew that the cutting had scattered the mi-robes.

I used turpentine to drive them fromunder my arm and then they came out onmy neck by the hundreds.. Finally I got tiredof fighting them in the regular way and justfor experiment tried my method on them. It

\ worked like a charm. They always made'their first appearance through the skin in a

very small pimple accompanied by a stingingsensation. If I operated against them themoment I noticed them, they would go awayat once " that is, inside of one day. But ifthey got a start, they would not disappearfor a week or more, although they would notgrow any more, and I would experience nopain from them.

I want to say here that those who attempthard cures before they have had sufficientexperience will find that it is not so easy asafter a few months' work with the method. This is not strange at all. If one's hand had

been bound to the body for all of one's lifeand was suddenly released, the mind wouldhave no control over it for some time. Themind has been taught unconsciously, not onlyfor the individual's life-time but for ages, thatit could not help itself so far as sickness isconcerned. But it is truly wonderful howquickly it will respond to careful training.Another curious circumstance happened whenI first attempted to cjir,e a carbuncle. I wasgoing to San Francisco and had just takenmy seat on the ferry when the thought firstcame to try and cure them by my method. Iput my finger on the carbuncle to center mythoughts on it the more forcibly. By thetime I had reached my office the carbuncle

had almost disappeared and the back of myhand was so swollen that I could not close

it. I knew then at once that, like the sur-eonwhen he cut the first one from my neck,

I had scattered the microbes and they hadsettled in the back of my hand. Next I cen-ered

my thoughts to drive them from thehand and inside of one day they were gone.I learned from that to center my thoughtsalways with the idea of driving them from mybody completely and it worked for I neverhad such a thing happen to me again.

anything for such a dangerous and stubborndisease. I had suffered for about a weekwhen the thought came to me to try mymethod at least. I gave it a fair trial but itdid not seem to do any good. I came to theconclusion that this disease was not caused

by microbes and so I could not expect to doanything for it. An attack came on worsethan ever just at dusk so I said to myself,"I'll give my method one more good trial."Would you believe it? The pain melted rightaway. I was anxious for the pain to comeback again so that I might be sure that itwas I who had driven it away. I was soongratified by its return. I tried the methodagain and it worked instantly every time. When I went to bed I lay with my rightside down and shortly the attack came back.I could hear my heart beating very plainlybut the moment I centered my thoughts onit the beatings slowed down to the normalnumber. I was startled to hear it answer myefforts in such a manner. I suppose that mi-robes

had been on the valves causing thetrouble. It did not come back but once that

I have always been attacked with Cali-fornia^malaria every season. One who hashad that trouble^ will never forget it. Itcomes on with a tired feeling which affectsthe whole body. One's limbs seem to hangback like a tired child and the whole systemseems to be deranged. I had some capsuleswhich a druggist got up and which were asure cure for the malaria although it wouldtake a week to entirely cure it by that means.I was stricken with the malaria this fall and

went so far as to get the capsules in myhand to use when the thought came to trymy remedy. It was about five o'clock when/I put the capsules back in the box and startedto work. I felt relieved in one-half hour and

by morning I was completely over it. On thesecond day the tired feeling came backslightly but I drove it away in a few minutesand have not had a malarial attack since.

Anyone trying to use this method shouldnot think that he can be too bold or recklesswith nature. Although you may be able tosee perfectly without glasses it would be wisenot to try to read very fine print such asWebster's Dictionary or the bible for somemonths. Give the nerves time to grow totheir former condition. Or, in other words, give the corpuscles and cellular life time tothoroughly repair the damage. I attemptedto read Webster's Dictionary the second dayafter I had made the change and strained theeyes. So I learned by sad experience what todo. I found that in the evening I can use theglasses and it does not affect my eyes at allin reading without them. Only where theglasses before did not cause any pain to theeyes, now they do. I only tried them to ex-eriment

after I had strained my eyes asnoted. I am positive that I shall never useglasses any more. Every night after goingto bed I have read till midnight withoutglasses and if that is not a fair test thenthere is none more convincing until one hastaken off one's own glasses and seen for him-elf.

All those who wear glasses have found thatas they grow older the glasses have to bechanged every few years because the nerves

are being eaten away all the time, whichmakes it necessary to change the prescription. The longer you wear glasses the more the c-corpuscles of the blood get used to the mi- A.crobes which are causing the trouble andleave them to their work of destruction un-olested.

I will now mention a number of caseswhere I have told others of the method andit has relieved them in every instance.

My wife has a friend who has been sickfor years " not what one would call seriouslysick but just like the thousands of womento-day who have little ailments and magnifythem and allow them to dominate their livesmore and more. I have constantly remindedthis lady that she need not be sick. She hasalways replied that that idea was all rightfor those who were strong in will power andbeside but for the will power she had ex-rted

for years death would have been herportion long ago.

There is such a variety of these self-fooledinvalids as is almost impossible to conceiveof. There is always some human event whichwill arouse them but it must fit each indi-idual

case. I will here record a few whichI have myself noticed and no doubt you allhave seen or heard of like circumstances,

I knew a young girl who had been an in-alidfrom childhood. There was nothing

seriously the matter with her only that herparents had coddled her till she came to be-ieve

that she was very badly off. To be sureshe had some small ailments but nothing thatone would despair of easily curing. If onehad told her that she ought to get out andexercise and get God's beautiful sunshine andair

have resisted and braved the wonder of yourfamily and friends? I think you would havedone as she did. The change came in thetwinkling of an eye. From that momenteverything in nature was changed for her.She did have some troubles but the greatforce that came to her was sufficient to causethe corpuscles to attack and destroy the mi-robes

causing the illness. She got well en-irelyand the power of her thoughts no doubt

drew the object of her great love to her.Although women can not propose and seem

helpless to win the object of their affection, they have a power greater and more irresist-ble

than man, who can only seek and ask.Only those who have a Heaven-born loveneed try to use this rule for it will not workfor a counterfeit love. If a woman has truemodest love for a man and he is indifferent

to her it is because of some failings whichhe can not endure. There is very little chance

for love to come to either unless there are

some mutual attractions. If she will look her

life over and criticise it as minutely as shedoes the lives of others and if she will recog-ize

her own faults and really correct them,it is almost a positive rule that there can beno failure. No temporary makeshift changecan fool true love. A man who is looking for

Once there was a woman who had beenbed-ridden for years. In all that time she hadnever taken a step. The house caught firewhen she was in it all alone so that she hadto burn or get up and run out. Withoutstopping to consider she chose the only wayto live. After it was all over she nearlyfainted at the thought of the terrible thingshe had done and, of course, had to be takento bed again on a stretcher. Another womanin the great San Francisco fire did the samething and to this day is as well as anywoman. It is so plain that one has only toget up an intelligent force to drive the enemyfrom the body that I can not see why it hasnot been found out long ago.

In the first case the woman, through neces-ity,got up a force sufficient to drive the mi-robes

from their stronghold but afterwardsdid not have the courage to keep it up. Inthe second instance the woman had the senseto know that if she could run out of the housethere was no need of going to a bed of sick-ess

as before. In the first case, after the

woman had her fright at what she had done, the chills from fear at once allowed the re-urn

of the microbes because the corpuscles49

went back to their former condition. If thefirst woman had been on her guard, havingthis knowledge in her brain, she would haveresisted their return and would have suc-eeded

as the second one did. The tissuesthat had been destroyed would have beengradually rebuilt, just as we get tools andmaterials and repair the damages to ourhomes and business-houses aftier a fire orearthquake. It is reasonable that God hasthus placed these little builders and fightersin our bodies to use, to offset the enemy, andit should not be looked

so and felt no effects at all of a troublesomenature. He went to San Luis Obispo. Aftermore than a month I had a letter from him

saying that he was the happiest man in theworld as he had not been troubled with aheadache since I gave him my method of cur-ng

    it.

A man was troubled with constipation verybadly. When he told me of it I instructedhim how to cure it, as it was caused by mi-robes

in the intestines. All one has to dois to direct his corpuscles to that point, justas in any trouble, and in a few hours naturewill act. I have used it again and again onmyself, so that there is no doubt of the re-

suits if one uses his mind the right way andhas had a little practice in directing this work.

    Another friend ofmy

wife's was afflictedwith rheumatism. I met her in a dentist's

parlors. She complained to me of her trou-lesand how she could not work on account

of them. I told her that I could tell her howto cure them but she doubted me. I then said

to her that as we had a half hour to wait, ifshe would take the matter seriously I wouldshow her how to cure herself of this troubleand any that might ever come, if she wouldhave the perseverance to keep at it. Sheagreed and I explained my discovery.

I did not see her again for three weeks. When we met, the first thing she said was,''Do you know, my rheumatism was gonebefore I reached home that day. I went towork and my daughter thought I was crazybecause I was working. I told her how it allcame about and she could not believe it.When my husband came home we wereanxious to tell ' him the good news but herather dampened our ardor by saying, 'Youare d fools and your doctor is a biggerone.' (He is a captain and a little out-poken.)

My daughter told him that we didnot care what the doctor was as long as mytroubles were gone; and that they were gone

    he swears by the method.

I think it quite unnecessary to tell of anymore cases for if anyone reading these al-eady

recited will not take heed and learn, then I fear he would not profit if I gave himmany more chapters to read.

Of course mind healers will say that thecures are accomplished by suggestion. Ihave experimented with pains caused by mi-robes

and with what might be called arti-icialpains " that is, pains caused by an in-tantbruise, burn, or pin-prick. In case of

the pains caused by microbes I have neverhad one failure but in that of the artificial

ones I have never had one success. Of courseif one sets his mind on something else power-ul

enough to keep it centered there he willnot realize pain; but the moment he allowshis thoughts to return to the trouble he willfind the pain still there. Nor is this beyondcommon-sense, for the life in the cell of the

tissue or corpuscle is crying to its protectorfor relief and like a child will keep up thecrying till it gets relief whether the protectorhears it or not.

Here I will say, for the benefit of theM. D.'s, who will feel on reading this thattheir occupation is gone if all written hereis true, "Not so!" In the first place, if oneunderstands anatomy so that he can locatethe trouble inside the body he can do a greatdeal more than one who is in ignorance ofthe cause of a pain and its location. For in-tance,

if one had a bad headache it may becaused from a destruction of the tissues in

some remote part of the body. Consequently,a doctor who has intimate knowledge of thebody will be much more successful in usingthis method than one who has not that neces-ary

information. When this system beginsto be used generally the doctors will learn it.

A patient coming into the office of one whounderstands the causes of all diseases will,by his appearance, show the physician justwhere the trouble is and all the latter willhave to do will be to use the requisite nega-ive

force at that point to drive the microbesaway, when the pain will cease and the pa-ient

will at once know that he is beinghelped. It is said that there are two foolsborn every minute and that only one dies inthat time, so that the supply will never beexhausted. Plenty of people will never readand, if they do, will not take heed. Some will

try for a time and then drop it and go to thedoctor, who will cure them by doing justwhat God intended them to do for themselves.

I have found that I can write what I knowto some and they will take heed, while otherswill not consider the written lesson at allbut when I tell them face to face will listenand believe. So again the doctors have theadvantage of talking face to face, full of theactual knowledge the patient is seeking. Thisprofession will be more lucrative because itis certainly better from a business point ofview to teach people how to live than to showthem the way to the river Styx.

People will live longer in general, so therewill always be enough to keep the physiciansbusy. Besides the population will increaseout of proportion to what it does now.

We need revival meetings or missions inthis, as in religious teaching. Human beingswill always need some one to arouse themout of the groove into which they get. Theywill not in general learn to do anything forthemselves but will always need someone toassist them.

    XIII.

I have found that I can assist another per-on,present or absent, by the use of the

same method. This at first seems like animpossibility but is quite easy to explain. There need be no mystery about it any morethan about the things I have already written.I will give some experiences of my own toconfirm this statement. No doubt many likeexperiences will be recalled by the reader.

Many people have abundance of electricityin their bodies and all have more or less. Ihave learned that energy can be conveyed toanother person's corpuscles and will forcethem to act as if they were one's own. If

mychild is sick I simply send my command

to the corpuscles in the body of the child andthey will obey as if they were my own.

I explain it in this way. Thinking createswaves of electricity which pass through theair like wireless messages on the Hertzian

waves. The sending of this force into spacemakes the corpuscles lively to perform thework you intend. Inasmuch as one can sendhis thoughts to a certain person it does notseem out of reason that this should be so. Ithink it will be found that thoughts and elec-ricity

are one and the same thing. That theelectric force so transmitted strikes the bodywhich acts as a resisting coil, causing heat, thereby warming the corpuscles and cellularlife. In wireless telegraphy the more power is

    57

generated the farther the messages can besent. So with the human thoughts, the moreintense one can think the more easily onecan send his thoughts to affect another at adistance, or more thinking of less intensitywill accomplish the same work. This ex-lanation

should hold good till some betterone is given. There is no doubt that one per-on

can affect another even when distant fromhim if he thinks hard enough or constantlyenough.

To prove this statement I will mention sev-ralfacts of my own knowledge which I

know to be absolutely true.A boy some twelve years old, living in a

farming district of Illinois, had this experi-nce.He was about as countrified a little

fellow as one could imagine and very poor.He was rather a dreamy boy, not above theaverage in brightness at school. For oneborn to his surroundings, his mind was atwork in most peculiar channels. His love forthe opposite sex was truly wonderful. Thesight of a girl at that time, no matter howhomely she might be, affected him like beau-iful

music or the sight and fragrance offlowers

" a breath of Heaven, as it were, toassist him over temptations which otherwisemight have caused his downfall. This re-

boyish love for her still the same, althoughhe was rapidly changing from a boy to a man

/ even at that age. He went to work on a farmand always the little girl's picture was beforehim. He was thinking of her night and day.One evening when he had come in from thefield and sat down to his dinner a gentle rapcame on the door. The woman of the house, farmer like, opened the door just a little butenough for the boy to catch a glimpse of theface outside. And behold! It was the little

girl of his dreams. He nearly fainted fromthe surprise of finding his wishes fulfilled. He heard her say that she was looking for acertain farm house and ask the woman todirect her to it. Anyone can see that thechances for that little girl calling at that par-icular

know that it was himself that had caused her

his liking for her and after that herface did not abide with him.

A man whom I once knew told me thisactual occurrence. He had a brother livingin Michigan whom he thought a great deal

of. He himself had left that state for the Ter-itoryof Washington and was in the extreme

western part, out in the wilderness, campingunder a big fir tree all alone. Late one nighthe was awakened with a start by hearing hisname called and a voice like his brother's say-ng,

"Good-bye." About two months later hefound that his brother had died in Michiganthat very night.

Now I do not think for a minute that thevoice of his brother came all that distance. Itwas transmitted by wireless telephony with-ut

a doubt.I once had some money troubles with a

man in San Francisco. On my way homethat day I thought of nothing but the way hehad treated me. I went to bed thinking of itand could not sleep for thinking of what Ishould say to him on the next day. In themorning when I went to his office he saidthat he had been thinking of me all night longso that he could not sleep. Now he had noreasons for keeping me in his mind all nightas I had for thinking of him, for he owed memoney which I needed badly.

One night my little boy, who is about' tenyears old, was taken with the ear-ache after

he had gone to sleep. His moaning awakenedme and for an experiment I tried to stop hispain just as if it were my own. In fifteenminutes I had quieted him and he has nothad it since.

I knew of a case where a man met a younggirl on a railroad platform where they saweach other only for a space of some ten min-tes.

That, however, was enough to allowboth to fall desperately in love. They neverspoke to each other and parted thinking neverto meet again. Inside of two years they wereman and wife! They met again thousandsof miles from their first meeting place. Theyhad thought of each other constantly aftertheir first meeting and were drawn together.

In the year 1897 I traveled from Juneau toSkagway, Alaska. I was sitting in the cabinlistening to the small talk around me, whenI noticed a man standing by the smoke-stackwarming his hands. All at once some oneexclaimed, "Hit it!" The man drew back and

gave the smoke-stack a tremendous blow with

his fist. Some one else said, "Slap him !" andhe gave the man next to him a side blow that

nearly floored him. A few minutes later theywere all going down the companionway oneby one to dinner. The last man cried out,"Hit him," and the lowest man was knocked^

down the stairs by a blow from the strangeman. In answer to inquiries on my part theytold me that this man was afflicted with atrouble which placed his executive departmentunder the control of anyone giving a suddenorder to him. If he were suddenly ordered tojump overboard he would do it. He was per-ectly

    sound inevery

other respect. Sincethen I have found that there are many soafflicted.

This story will serve to illustrate the lawherein laid down

    "that the corpuscles and

cellular life will obey the orders of anotherperson instantly if the conditions are right. In these cases the mind was so slow that theelectric force acted or executed the order ofanother through the cellular life, before hismind could countermand it. If the orders

were given slowly they were not executed. It is not necessary to enumerate any more

cases to prove that thoughts can be conveyedas I have described and impressions made onanother's body, no matter how distant.

It must be remembered that I had nevertried to use my lAind before as I did in thatcase of my little boy so that it is surprisingthat I did so much at the first attempt. Some

may say that it was through sympathy thatI was enabled to do it. But I have used the

There is no excuse for growing old. Oldage is a form of sickness caus^ by microbes,as has been positively demonstrated. Thesemicrobes attack the tissues of -the flesh espe-ially

where it is exposed tp the cold. I haveseen plenty of old people /Whose faces, handsand wrists were old and wrinkled, while theirbodies were almost as perfect as when theywere young. Where the face is continuallyexposed to the changes of temperature themicrobes get in, because the corpuscles deserttheir post and gradually allow the foes to re-ain.

These eat away the flesh, making wrin-les.If one keeps one's mind on that fact

till a constant resistance is generated wrinkleswill never come and those already acquiredcan be driven out.

There are many people who grow old butnot aged " whose bodies are sound, withoutwrinkles, and who are vigorous in mind andbody. Now if there is one person in ten thou-and

who is in the condition mentioned thereis no reason why the other nine thousand ninehundred and ninety-nine should not bebrought up to the same condition in time. One need not strain a common-sense line ofreasoning to arrive at the above conclusion.

Some may say that it is an impossibility. But does one believe that God made humanbeings to suffer from sickness as they do atthe present time ? While in all civilized coun-ries

the death rate has been lowered, thesick list has so increased that without a doubtthere is more misery than ever in the world. If a thing can not be accomplished in one wayit can in another. If the milder forms of sick-ess

are on the increase new methods of cureshould be tried until a remedy is found. It isnatural to believe that the human race can be

brought to a higher plane of perfection, bothin mind and body.

    ,

The American people havealways believed that what one can do anothercan and I am positive that in the greatmental change coming to the human race theywill take the lead.

Why should man's hair fall out any morethan woman's? Because women do not keeptheir heads covered so constantly as men.The flesh of the scalp is very thin and theblood does not circulate very rapidly. Con-equently

the corpuscles are scattered. Thecold striking them so often, they do not per-orm

their work and the microbes which killthe roots of the hair get in and do the mis-hief.

The reason that in most cases the topof the head becomes bald first is that that

point is most distant from the heart and thecirculation is poorer there than anywhere elsein the body. At first thought it would seemthat if the man keeps his head warmer thanthe woman the result would be the reverse ofwhat it is. As I have said before, the badcirculation in the scalp and the man's con-tantly

taking off his hat cause so manychanges of temperature that the microbes getin and stay in, while with women the cor-uscles

of the blood have a more constant

temperature and do not desert their work.It is the same with lung troubles. The con-tant

changes of temperature in the lungsleave them exposed. Hence the bacteria arealways there. It is truly wonderful that thisdread disease is not more prevalent than it is.Stop and think of what happens when onebreathes through the mouth. Hordes ofmicrobes are taken in at each breath and someof course find lodgment in the lungs.

When the head itches it is because themicrobes are at work eating away the rootsof the hair. And it is the same when thethroat or lungs itch. It seems to me follynot to mind these little straws which show

you whence the wind is blowing trouble toyou. The old advice, so often g^ven, not tomind your little pains is criminal. The

breed with those of the horse, which gives astronger corpuscle.

The theory is this: It is necessary to getcorpuscles strong enough to drive out themicrobes which have entrenched themselvesin the patient's body. To do that, the dis-overer

of this method thought of making thecorpuscles which had become weakened or soaccustomed to the enemy that they would notfight, stronger by injecting some of them intothe spine of a horse. The results were satis-actory,

for nearly every case was saved bythe use of this method.

That was good common-sense but thetrouble with such remedies is that the after-ffect

is to be dreaded. While the strongercorpuscles may kill the enemy and completelyrout him they are liable to do more. If thewhite corpuscles become too strong they willdestroy the red ones, which accompany themto do the carrying of supplies for their ownuse and that of the cellular life. The blood

in that case will become watery and the

patient sickly. As stated in a previous chap-eropposition must exist in the body against

the attacks of outside enemies but it must

always come from the reserve force withinthe body itself.

If the corpuscles become too strong withinthe body they grow hungry and eat up theirown helpmates. I suppose that was why thedoctors used to bleed people in the oldentimes, and put on leeches to suck the blood. It seems to me just like everything else inlife. There must always be healthy opposi-ion

but neither side must get too much ad-antage.It seems to me that God has pro-ided

a reserve force within us to use when-ver

we feel that the necessary enemy, the mi-robe,is getting too much advantage. Most

people eat too much now-a-days and thismakes their blood too rich and their corpus-les

too strong. The bible speaks often aboutfasting and if this were heeded more thehuman race would reap rich physical rewards, aside from the spiritual ones.

In the cases of spinal meningitis, if the pa- .tients had been taught how to prevent dis- j/eases, it would have been as easy to curethemselves at the start as to cure a cold.

    XVI.

The whole secret is in being able to detectthe approach of disease. Disease lurks inevery cold and a cold always comes when thetemperature is falling. My method works

a resisting force, in the same manner that Iwould if I were assailed with some sinfultemptation. I go about feeling like a being ofanother world, for when everybody else isfighting colds and all kinds of sickness, I ampositively immune. It seems to me that sucha condition is worth months of study and thatit must be known to everyone.

My children can do the same as I. Ofcourse children forget and let a cold getstarted, after which it is harder to get rid of.But if the parents know how to use this pre-entive

they will notice when the child istaking cold and warn it to look out and assistit to overcome by using the same methods ason one's self. More will be said on this sub-ect

later on. For several years my childrenhave not had a cold run on them or had anyof the prevailing children's diseases.

Every household should have a thermometerand barometer handy, so that the moment thetemperature begins to fall the children canbe told of it and to be careful. After a while

one will acquire a resisting force that willmake him practically immune from disease.I used to take a cold at every slight changebut now I rarely feel one starting,

All parents should be able to protect theirhelpless babes in a like manner. If I can doit you can also. And it is good common senseto think that God has. provided a way to do it.

Now-a-days people, to keep the little onesquiet, dope them with all kinds of harm-ul

medicine that affects them for all

time^_^3Vith this simple remedy of mine all'one has to do is to g^ve the command and-the little pains vanish. Only three nights agomy little boy was attacked with a bad cough-ng

I repeat, do not think that you have got togive your time to this. At first a few min-tes

at a time will be needed to cure yourills. But after a while it becomes second na-ure

so that you will unconsciously act with-ut^ny inconvenience at all. Just stop and

think that you can not make a single move-entof the body without an order from the

seat of power in the brain, yet this does notcause you any bother. Notice some timewhen

you are combing your hair how, if youchange the comb from one hand to the other, unless you think about it your empty handwill stay up in the air until you give it thecommand to come down. You can give stand-ng

orders for movements of your body as inthe case of walking, which does not requirean order for each step. So it is in this mat-er,

after one has acquired the control of thecorpuscles such as God intended one shouldhave, he can give a standing order for his cor-uscles

to be on guard and they will obey, except in extreme changes of temperature, when especial attention must be given at the.time to provide extra heat. In looking afterworkmen in any industry standing orders canbe given for all ordinary circumstances butwhen an extraordinary condition arises thenthey have to be looked after by the man incharge " and this regardless of the faithful-ess

of the workmen. Remember that the

corpuscles are really you and will act just asyou will under like conditions.

Now take an hour by yourself and thinkover every word of this book. I have notwritten one word more than I could helpand every one is loaded with meaning, giving

knowledge that I have acquired by long andactual experience. They will seem crazyideas until

you get the first result of your ownthinking. Then the wonder of it will over-helm

you. When that dies away you willconsider it perfectly natural to do what ashort time ago you thought an impossibility.

We think it wonderful that a bird can flyand yet it is simple compared with our walk-ng.

Did you ever stop to figure out howyou perform that every-day business? I daresay not one in ten thousand ever thought it awonderful feat; yet flying is easy comparedwith it. Take up a dead man soon after lifeis extinct and see how hard it is to hold himupright; or, better still, try a fainting person. No wonder it is hard for every joint is a balljoint and when the mind is gone it is an im-ossibility

    to keep the body upright.

    XVII.

In flying, when the wings are in motion thepropelling force comes from two sources. The back end of the wing describes a greatercircle than the front, giving a sculling move-ent

which drives the weight ahead. Thewings are slightly concave, causing a slightcompression of the air around the body. Thewing of a gull is about three-eighths of an

inch thick in front, tapering to a knife edgein its length. The body has it greatest diam-ter

at about two-thirds of its length. Thecompression of the air from the wings actson this taper, causing the body to be squeezedforward. The wings being fine tapered wedgessqueeze ahead from the pressure of the air

    upontheir surfaces. To

    provethis:

    "When

the wind is making pressure or, in otherwords, power, the gull can hold its wingsstill and the compression of the air caused bythe wind trying to reach a partial vacuumsomewhere squeezes the bird ahead against itsown pressure. If the wedge power of thewings and body is figured from a twenty-five-mile wind the results will show that itwill overcome the head resistance by a bigmargin.

This digression is only to show that it is nomiracle for a bird to fly. But I will defy anyone to figure out how a man walks and bal-nces

himself. I know that it is done throughthe mind, acting through a bit of flesh in thehead, called a level, with a corpuscle or sev-ral

of them to warn the pilot in the brainwhen the body is getting out of balance andto shift weights. I will leave it for some oneelse to go into the how of it more minutely, asI have said enough to illustrate my point,

the same time Mr. Bad Part is putting up allthe arguments he can from his point of view.

So it is, not only in connection with goodand bad acts, but with every act of business

or pleasure. These two forces are opposingeach other. Sometimes I think that there is

a third part of the mind, which listens tothe arguments pro and con and makes thedecision and issues the orders to the littleanimals in the body to execute them. As faras this book is concerned it does not matter.I only want to impress upon the reader thatthe mind singly or collectively gives its ordersand that the corpuscles execute them withoutdelay if they are given in the right way.

Neither is it necessary to explain the lifein the corpuscle, any more than it is to findout the whys and wherefores of the life in thebacteria which are constantly attacking thebody. There is no doubt that it is all for thebest for us.

he should, and to repeat in as short amanner as possible how to use this methodwithout re-reading the whole book; also tosummarize it all so that one will have notrouble in grasping it at once. I intend it tobe self-teaching, so that one need not pay-ut

hundreds of dollars to be able to use itand get the results.

Anger, hate, jealousy, and all those badthoughts which have ever made the world andhomes such gloomy places come from inten-ity

of thought. The tremendous changes go-ngon all the time amongst the nations of

the world, as well as in individual life, showthe enormous power stored
